  1. I guess the people at the bank aren't as trusting as gas station clerks. I went to a bank to cash a check for my mom and the teller wouldn't cash it till I had showed some ID. Apparently I had misplaced my driver's license but I found my Eagle Card, she said it wasn't good enough and I had to have my mom cash it. It's sad that not everyone thinks of scouting as an ideal.
  2. Powhatan has one of the biggest trading posts ive seen. Advice from what I've seen, DO NOT LET STAFF MEMBERS GET USED TO LOUNGING AROUNG IN THE TRADING POST CAUSE THEYLL GET USED TO IT REALLY FAST, BLOCKING THE WAY FOR EVERYONE ELSE. But then again your tading post is HUGE, so I don't think space is a problem. Common sense wise, the first evening and parent's night will be the busiest...BE PREPARED
  3. "Kinda noticed this list was Virginia oriented so I thought I would share." We could have a conclave...or just talk smack about each other.
  4. Glad to say that now I have graduated I will be looking forward to leaving for Camp Shenandoah next week as Scoutcraft director Other forum members that are working staff, post where you're going, when, and what position
  5. You know......posting and doing all this nonsense on these message boards isn't going to get us any closer to nature....(:
  6. Order of the Arrow Rockin' the House and Impressing Adults since 1915
  7. Treasure Island is canceling everything this summer because of that flood....everything but the 90th Anniversary. Perhaps they requested work crews to stop coming because they had so many crews alrady. I read on thier website that they wanted pople to sign up for work crews for some odd reason
  8. Unami is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the OA at Treasure Island this July. I'm going to it, has anyone else heard about this , or going?
  9. I agree with Overactivearrowman, they handled it very well. If NOAC and Jambo wereboth in 2010, it would defintely conflict and the last thing the OA wants to do is detract from the Scouting program. The 2008 Service Extravaganza ( I seriously doubt that this is the true name of it) is an awesome idea, somewhat similar to Southern's One Day of Service, but this is nationwide!. Then we get on the odd number of year in 2011 celebrating the 100th anniversary of OA in 2015, wouldn't it be horrible if they kept the even year and there isn't some sort of celebration?
  10. Vice Section Chief in da Houze!! The Section doesn't really have a website, and maybe Jeff Bona might be willing to get one up. The Section website is based off of the region website, all it says is that Jeff is our Section Chief and gives the links for all the other lodges in our Section. And yes Nawakwa did put on an awesome conclave. You 333 punks got lucky in the tug o war! 258 WE ARE GREAT!
  11. have them be creative and have them look for a yellow bellied snipe, we use it for summer camp and scouts will dress their leaders up for this part
  12. I want to know about ballistas, catapults and pioneering...I'm a youth for one more month....and is this BSA youth 18 or OA youth 21
  13. I have read a lot of posts saying that the scout uniform was not intended for outings, treks, or hikes, and should only be worn for parlour scouting. But should the uniform be scrapped just because people are outside. Is it not importnat that people are in uniform when they go to places like Philmont? Wouldn't we want to bolster a sense of belonging at camporees and at other outings. The uniform should be designed to be durable for such outings. Summer camp staff wear out so many pairs of pants because the current pants are not suitable for the outdoors. There should be some emphasis in making
  14. Our Lodge number is part of our totem, so we can't get rid of it with out changing our totem....thats the loophole we're exploiting. All of the lodges in our section are still using their numbers, I think more for the purpose of cheers and that during Conclave
  15. "Personally I ise my fingers unless they are sugared or honey dipt in which case I will use the toothpick on my swiss army knife " Good thinking cause then you won't get your unifrom dirty
  16. figured this would be fun, I guess this would heavily rely on boy scouty pick up lines like hey my olive green pants match your lovely eyes or O sorry i was doing a course and my compass led me straight to you.... any ideers?
  17. I got elected!, my lodge chief pulled some strings, and a lot of the people at Conclave knew who I was from being a counselor at summer camp. I ran under the platform of improving communication and improving lodges by building off of other lodges successess. I'm really excited, plus I get a jacket with my name embroidered on it!
  18. How about Lodge OA jambo flaps, our lodge is utting out this sweet flap symbolizing the union between our lodge abd council.
  19. Has anyone here been invovled working with a section as an officer, I plan on running for Vice Section Chief at conclave next week and other than the stories from the past section chief, who is a member of my lodge, I was wondering if anyone had any stories or things about experience to share.
  20. I was looking at some websites, and they said you should use soapwhen you first get the oven to remove the protective covering...thats what a majoirty of sites said but Im still hesitant about soap and DO's
  21. Just curisous, I live in a small time community with a pretty popular local new leader spanning 2 counties and 2 cities, about every 2 months there is a little blurb in the news paper about our council wheter it be who got thier Eagle, eagle projects, service projects, scouting for food, or the board of superviosrs denying our requests to renovate our property. I was curious to how much publicity your council is getting and wheter or not it helps or renders your image in the community
  22. I dont know, the Yoda set that the Marin Council dished out might be worth the $75. the most I ever spent on a patch was probalby $40, but it was worth owning the Hooters set. Bragging rights and humor ahoy. Patch collecting has its sides, I partake in the "I'll trade anything to anyone." Its nice to get your stuff circulated, its great for brotherhood, and if you get a Yoda patch then your collection is set for life. I know guys that dish out thousands for this, the misers will probably just keep it on display or in a box somewhere, living off of money that they conned off of fellow scouts, j

    Pants crusade?

I took Bob White's one post to heart about the people complaining and not doing anything, is there an address that complaints and suggestions can be sent to regarding pants. I feel that mailing a letter to national is a better way of expressing an opinion and complaint rather than the scoutstuff survey. I'd love to send National my opinions about pants but havent the slightest idea if there is some uniform depratment to complain to. I feel if everyone would take time, then we would see immediate results.
  24. I had a troop from Indiana come to our summer cam and they explained to me about Firecrafter. I've been to the website, but the history varies from the yarn I was told. The yarn included an irate Council Executive who was ticked at the OA and created his own honor society. I think the patches are real neat. There is also that differeing attitude from OA. OA is about scout spirit reflecting upon the scout law and oath where firecrater seems to me to encourage and honor scout skills

    Pants crusade?

In regard to the whining remark, does change occur from passivness? Would Britain have given the colonies their independence if they didn't whine about some measley taxes. I know the pants issue is not some crusade for freedom, but nothing will change if no one complains. My brother and I are both counselors at our summer camp, requring us to make use of our scout pants everyday. My brother and I are also doing rigorous activities everyday at camp leading hikes and work crews, so we do not get the luxury of 5 year old pants. Jeans are nice they're durable, but I think it's ridiculous that
