  1. The way Tico explained it to our class(yes I was just there at Philmont) was that ALL LEVELS are members of BSA and that the One Promise for All was a way of showing we are ONE - Cubs will still use the 2 fingers and all other levels 3. Of course they could have decided to go co-ed...Just saying-(figure I'll rile a few of you LOL)
  2. Just back from Commish week at Philmont-Just found out that The Payed Professionals are there to provide the financial resources, etc so we the the Volunteers can provide the program for the youth. Quote"the professionals work FOR the Volunteers not the other way around". I would like a DE that is allowed to stay for more than 2 yrs, seems as tho just about the time DE and District is finally in a comfortable working together mode,Council see's fit to remove them and we start over again. Also a DE shouldn't promise more than they can do-better to say "no" than to not follow thru and dissap
  3. Daniel Webster is down 1 and interviewing.
  4. What click 23 said about handouts etc was right on, took the UC conference last yr and came home with all new UC handbooks and info, and I landed up mailing a pkg home ahead due to many "collected things" and gifts!!LOL
  5. Here is a current definition of Lone Scouting. http://www.scouting.org/about/factsheets/lonescout.aspx
  6. Cito, good suggestion about the camping options for early arrival for PTC-not all bring camping equipment with them. The Cimarron Inn and RV center where I stayed has clean rooms tastfully decorated with Philmont themes. While the accomadations in Cimarron aren't as classy as those closer to interstate the are affordable. Cimarron has the flavor and character of the Old West, it's a pleasant change. They do have a nursery at PTC for the young ones and there is Wi-fi and electric in our platform tents. This year we will have new showers and a covered area outside the dining hall we can use als

  8. I was there last yr + am going again week 6 this yr, drive time is Denver 4 hrs, Colorado springs-3 hrs, Albuquerque-3 hrs-lots to do any place you land. if you get out there early(check in starts promptly at 2pm Sun) Stay at St James Hotel or Cimarron Inn+ RV Center(I prefer this place has character and very clean)Each room has a theme and is decorated. I find renting a car(shop around u have time yet) because Wed we have the day off to wander and sight see-town,Eagles Nest-trout fish and so on. the NRA has a location to visit not to far down the rd also. We live in "tent cities" they have
  9. Went to Mo.Unit site and found another for an active Canadian Unit camping event with old fashioned Scout skills, interesting!! Here is Washington MO,USA Unit :http://www.10thdanielboone.org/- the Mo group also is on FB. Looks like there is also a Unit in CT and several out west.

  11. Wolf Cub Achievement #6-Start a collection- this could be the start of a"patch collection" that for some turns into a lifelong hobby.Just handed out to my pack after church last Sun and to the boys who's parents verified they had gone to their own religious institutions. Used this Scout Sunday as the lead into "Duty to God"achievement.(#11-wolf)
  12. Moosetracker, you may "look" like the quiet type(and I know who u are)but you are not and are a very dedicated Scouter!!! I have to admit that I did not answer my TG back right away either, I did the second time. I have a bad habit of, yes reading My E's on phone and planning on answering when I get home, then things seem to get in way and 1 day goes by and so on. My son is of "new generation" and I can send an email and 3 wks later I get an answer or none at all-texting is the thing. So I am now getting back in the habit of making the trusty old phone call ( or at least a verbal message o
  13. Lisa, My thoughts and prayers are with you and the boys family. a BIG Scout Hug to you and the family.
  14. I forgot to mention ,that my Daughter is the Leader of the GS Troop she has 2 asst leaders, one being the father of one of the girls,he is more of a help than the other Asst Ldr. Yes maybe you could find a Female to help start a new troop.
  15. Basement,PTC(Phimont Training Center) is offering a week long conference Week 9/Aug 5-11 for AHG. American Heritage Girls The Boy Scouts of America and the American Heritage Girls have signed a Memorandum of Mutual Support, and many BSA councils are working with local AHG communities and areas to conduct joint activities, training, recruiting, and more. This conference is for local BSA volunteers who are already working with AHG, those who want to learn about AHG, and AHG volunteers.
  16. Basement,My daughter up here in NH has a Father who is reg as Asst GS Leader. Must be your GSA Council down there that has the problem. He is a Big help on the camping trips!!
  17. MT, yes i do think this group of parents can make it work, they all realize they need to "recruit" boys and parents. Have your son see what venture crew might be able to help him with Pack duties. As for this packs hunt for CM,2 parents asked what it intailed and I had handouts with how and what Pack meetings are for them,no "it's only 1 hr a week" stuff. We are also looking outside the Pack parents also. And like you I have been away from the Cub program for a real long time(30yrs)so I have been reading and getting my hands on everything I can to update,My 1st Den siting debute is next T
  18. Hello Moosetracker,Havn't gotten a chance to reply to my Counselor(same course you are talking about)so he doesn't know where I am yet. Daughter who is 18(+ venturer) will be ADL for the Wolfs(1 boy left that night now 3 more
  19. It was announced on the PTC site that Virginia Phillips passed away wed. evening, she was Chope Phillips wife,he is the son of Waite Phillips who gave us Philmont Scout Ranch.
  20. Eamonn,if you are anything like my Dad (he's 91+) you will still be "active" even if ,like my Dad become the "Troop Relic"(as he refers to himself with a chuckle) His wisdom and advice and tales of his being an aide to Uncle Dan are still being passed on whenever he has the chance(I'm still on the receiving end as are his Great Grandsons) Your involvement and commitment to the values and ideals of to scouting will live on through that boy you mentored and now turned Father and onto his Son. You will never be "not involved" Wow, 50 yr's of giving and caring!!!
  21. Ok Guys+Gals, here's something to think about the COST ( I'm not yelling just emphasizing(sp)) may be prohibative to renew/visa or to process for green card may be the problem. My neighbor(British) said her renewal of Visa was going to cost her $2000 so she said it was easier for her to apply for citizenship ($700) so she did and has become, but she is an RN with a good salary and thus could afford it, maybe this father doesn't have the same financial options. So find a supportive role that he could help with somewhere else than ASM. I bet if he had the $$ he would make himself legal in a heartb
  22. Long time ago we did Taco's on fri(sometimes brought meat part premade) Sat- breakfast bacon/sausage with what ever, subs for lunch the "taco spagetti for dinner-browned a little extra meat, added leftover bacon/sausage,taco's and jar or 2 of old ragu made a fine meal on a cool nite.Spagetti with a kick. The kids loved it, if there were any vegies from lunch they might land up in there also. Substitute ziti for spagetti if you want. Sun. was usually eggs in a bag. Of course there were many a time they cooked up a storm, depended on the mix of kids.
  23. Daniel Beard rcv'd his Eagle Scout Award in 1915, which made him 65yrs old. My Dad (who had the honor of assisting Uncle Dan at several Scout functions, became an Eagle at 18ys 3 mos in 1938, there was no age limit for awhile.
