  1. I have that issue sometimes when it looks like you can't get out of the quote box. Try hitting return then using the up and then down arrows to get the cursor out. I have found that to work, odd as it may sound. I don't think you are the one that owes an apology. You made a mistake and a mod jumped on you with threats. Not very mod- or scout-like IMHO. You should not be demonized for making an honest mistake.
  2. Sorry, I'd tap out if we went coed. I get Venturing and it's a good idea. But Boy Scouts has a purpose. If BSA goes fully coed I know many who'd also leave. That'd be a sad day.
  3. @@eagle77 agree it's good feedback. Not grounds for a new SM. I still maintain kids need to be held accountable too.
  4. @@BDPT00 better watch where you put your cursor when you type or you might get banned. Hard to tell what is yours and what you are quoting.
  5. Right. And we've all seen kids who learn and use skills but then forget them. Happens all the time. Not the SMs fault. Where is personal accountability?
  6. If your a mod you can push people around, threaten to ban them and then close the thread. That's scout like?
  7. We are Catholic. We have God on retainer.
  8. Looked like a threat. Could have handled in private. Could be user error. But it's more fun to publicly flog someone, ain't it?
  9. Why? If he's taught, tested and passes and then forgets later it's the SM's fault? He's not allowed to retest the kid, so if the scout learned it for FC but forgets by Star it's now the SM's fault? If it happens more than once you get rid of an SM that's teaching these kids properly but they're just not using the skill and forgetting because they can't be retested? I think we have our accountability mixed up. It's up to the scout to keep the skill fresh once taught. The SM can't re-teach everything these kids forget. Bet those kids know video games better than their knots. What's the
  10. ....but it's so much easier to go off half cocked and threaten someone when you're in power.
  11. ....a mess BSA helped create. Now they have to watch their 105 years unravel.
  12. @@walk in the woods, Milton was the man. Make money, the rest will be taken care of.
  13. In 2010, there were: 70,349Cub Scouts in 1,778 packs 47,109 Boy Scouts in 1,823 troops 3,638 Venturers in 429 crews
  14. Maybe we can sell Communion Wafers for a fund raiser? Given yesterday's decision, I wonder if I can now camp with my daughters' GS troop without having to camp 1,000,000 yards away and treated like a second-class person. Maybe I should sue to get that policy changed. Could you imagine if we treated anyone like that in BSA?
  15. Use BSA camp grounds? Maybe once a year for summer camp, but that's about it. Most units I know use national and state parks, private or public land and other such areas. High adventure can easily be done (and cheaper) by doing your own thing. Summer camps are becoming MB factories and, as many have pointed out here, can be run by a unit with a higher degree of quality control. Cheaper too. If BSA wants to hang their hat on that revenue stream it won't get very much money.
  16. We don't need charities anymore because the Government will be there to fix everything. Where they don't corporations will fill the gap. Haven't you been paying attention since 2008?
  17. Yes, all sorts of issues still to be decided. Way too early to believe the spigots are going to be turned on or dry up.
  18. Yes. And they hate the fact that their IT decisions are made by technology Luddites. It should be no surprise their right hand has no idea what the left is doing. I know you are not really surprised. The Holy Trinity, in the end, is not that much of a compromise versus the gay issue. Apples and oranges.
  19. ROFL....but no one has changed their local policy yet, so this is smoke and mirrors. What if 90% of units don't change? What if 90% of units do change? I just have to laugh at how companies will run to whatever fig leaf they can to justify any actions or inactions.
  20. Ok. You mentioned previously that only page editors can tag photos, but did not mention that you don't tag. It seemed to suggest that your page managers could tag photos if they want to; not that you didn't tag at all. My mistake.
  21. I have a friend in their IT division. He said it was happenstance. They (PR Dept) did not know what Gates was going to say. Funny, those wanting change could have done the same thing, right. So somehow those who oppose the change if they don't do as you suggest don't somehow value the basic tenets of scouting? That's a big double-standard don't you think? At some point change affects your personal beliefs and you may need to vote with your feet, yet still uphold the basic tenets of scouting dearly.
  22. LOL, been called worse. According to our DE, the wave of "un-invites" has reached critical mass. Out of 17 units, all but two have dropped the FOS presentation from their program. One of the units who did not drop FOS had their leadership resign last night (their COH is not a religious group). Second unit in my district to have that issue. The leaders have signed on with the local Catholic unit and taken nearly all their scouts there. I think those unit numbers we were discussing in the other thread are going to drop WELL below 93,000 soon.
  23. The UMM, who oversee BSA in the UM church, have made a statement (of sorts), but it looks like they will discuss it at their Board of the General Commission on United Methodist Men in August.
  24. If by "ok with it" that they understand BSA's need to make a decision and that Catholic units will be allowed to set their own policy consistent with our beliefs, then yeah, I agree. If by "ok with it" you think the Catholic church is going to start allowing gay leaders, then I think we read that document very differently.
