  1. I know that when I was a bear leader that was on of the requirements for getting your bear badge. I think that I would wait until then. Check with a Bear leader and see. I would think that your son would get bored if he gets ahead of his den. There is a section in the bear book that they have to earn the chip, do some soap carving and stuff. Tracy
  2. Hey! We're Webs II!!! I'm so excited about this summer. My boys have earned their way to Resident Camp. We will have den meetings 1x a month at the end of the month and it's up to the leader as to what they will cover. I think that in June we will talk about and prepare for camp. We just earned our religious emblem (the WHOLE den)! Any here's what is planned so far (school here starts back Aug 11th): June - Advancement/Camp out, Aquarium visit/Camp out July - Cub Scout Twilight Camp (like day camp but from 5pm - 8pm), Resident camp (8 webs I & II and 2 bears!)
  3. Thanks for the help. I think I'll have these done and ready for when my boys get ready to cross over. I really appreciate the help from you guys here! :-) Tracy
  4. jteamnmj, Thanks for another great idea! I just want to get an idea down so that I can have it in the works. You know how the year gets by before we know it and I wanted to have something done by the time the cross over. Tracy
  5. I have lived the same problem you are having. I let my son move up. I thought that the fact that he'd have to be held back was enough. He excels in Scouting and for me to mess that up for him would have killed him, not to mention that his self esteem would have been squashed. Let him move up. These are the friends that he will have for a long time. My son is now a 1st year Webelos and the group has 4 "original" boys from Tiger year. When they are together they are as thick as theives. I am so proud of them because they look out for one another and they have learned to work together gre
  6. Thank you so much!!!!! I knew someone could help me here. :-) Tracy
  7. award. I want to do the ones I have heard some talk about but I can't seem to find the instructions. It deals with an arrow and painting or using different colors of tape to symbolize the different ranks that the boys have moved up to from Tiger to Webelos. My Webelos are moving into their 2nd year and I would love to do this as an award to them for their hard work. I also want to keep it a secret so that they won't know it's coming. Any ideas of where I can find the instructions to this? Thanks! Tracy
  8. I have to agree with Zippie. I too meet at a local church and I am a Webelos leader. I have to bring my little one with me (4yr). I bring enough for everyone to particpate. It's something that has happened since my son was a Tiger. As long as the younger child is not a distraction or a behavioral problem I don't have a problem with them. Tracy
  9. Thanks for the information! I knew y'all wouldn't let me down! :-) This is the best place I have found to get any kind of information that I can't find. :-) Tracy
  10. One of the requirements of the 75th anniversary is for the boys to draw an illustration of the US Flag as it looked in 1930 (Requirement #5). Do any of you know where I can find a picture of that? I have not a clue what it is supposed to looked like. Thanks for any information. I have found that this group is really good at finding what I need. :-) Tracy
  11. Our pack had some problems with that too. We decided to let the boys earn the belt loops if the entire den was offered the same chance at the belt loop. Our Webelos have earned quite a few this year because this ban had been lifted and they are requirements of the pins they are earning. Also the belt loops are limited to 2 per den to be earned during each month.
  12. Thank you so much for the information mn_scout! The flag looks great! Tracy
  13. My Webelos den hasn't pick a den patrol and I was wondering how some of you did that with your dens. I have also heard that they need a chant, yell and flag. Any suggestions on how you got your den to decide without any fights. My boys are great and I'm not expecting fights but you never know since this will follow them to Boy Scouts. Thanks for any information! Tracy
  14. I would never push these boys through. They are working one the requirements as they can. I have a small group and a good group who really works to get things done. Most of my boys have already completed 10 of the 20 pins in the Webelos book. Also to slow them down some we have been working to earn 2 belt loop a month. I'm thinking that my boys will be really at the soonest to cross over this time next year but we might even get to stretch that until May. I'll just have to see where it goes. I'm certainly not going to hold them back if they can do the work. I hate to see boys staying i
  15. CM Fred, Thanks for the ideas. I had sort of thought of going by something like that but wasn't sure about it. We are thinking of doing a pot luck with the dinner. We have a committee meeting that we have to run the ideas through before the B&G. Maybe we can get the boys to do the decorations. Thanks! Tracy
  16. I'm at a lose as to what to do for this B&G. I know that we are going to use 75th Anniversary for the theme but what do you do?
  17. AK-Eagle: That sounds like a great idea, only draw back is that we haven't anytime before the party for the cubbies to make it. We have a time factor that isn't in my favor. :-( We've had a ton of things going on. Tracy
  18. LOL! I'm sorry. I see where you'd think I have twins. :-P I call the boys in my den my boys. They have all been together since Tigers and I've been there as a parent the 1st 2 years helping in the den and the last 2 as a leader so they are just about like family. I have 4 boys total in the den and they are great about showing up and getting the work done. I have 2 boys of my own that are 5 yrs apart. They are 4 yr and 9 yr, but the 4 yr old thinks he's as big and the 9 yr old. The boys in my den put up with the 4 yr pretty good. They really watch out for him when he has to be there.
  19. SemperParatus and New Cub Dad: Thanks for the suggestions. I've got to get the stuff in gear. Our party is Monday!!! Tracy
  20. I'm not really new but I don't think I've ever posted to this part of the forum. My name is Tracy. This is my 2nd year to be a den leader. I have moved up with my boys each year. We are now in Webelos I. I have a really great group of guys and parents. I'm from Alabama. Married with 2 boys, so it looks like I'll be with scouts for a LONG while! I don't mind a bit. I think this is a pretty good place to be. :-) Tracy
  21. I have some parents (just a few) that put in a lot of time and hard work on a project and I'd like to recognize them at our pack Christmas party. Can you give me a link where I can find a nice certificate or a cutsie award? I know that I've received stuff like top Banana (plaque with a banana on it). Do you know where I could find some ideas or maybe some of you have some? These parents put some long hours into the float that we used at the Christmas parade. We have about 30 scouters and there were a total of 4 sets of parents work on this float and I think that they need some kind of rec
  22. I never was in a hurry to cross any of these boys. They haven't even earned their AOL. I have just been getting questions from others that since they are this far ahead what will I do once they finish the program. I had been told by the Cubmaster that if they meet all the requirements ALL will be able to cross over early. Most of these boys will be 10 yr this summer. I just wondered about the requirements and if I was truly meeting them. I'm thinking that they will cross over at the earliest next spring. But they have surprised me so at the rate they are completing things. Tracy
  23. EagleInKy: It does seem like a lot, but the boys (I only have 4) went to a Webelos Overnighter this summer that covered quite a bit of stuff. Then we had some pack overnighters this summer that we got other stuff covered with. Then we had a day on the river with a group that takes care of our water system here. It's just been a good 6 months of opportunities for the boys. I hadn't planned on having such good things to get the boys to and earn their pins at the same time. I'm sure the next pins won't be as easy. Tracy
  24. Bob58: Thanks for your input. I can learn for all of you. I had been waiting for the boys to complete the requirements for the Webelos Badge requirements. I was under the impression that they had to complete that before the could actually earn the pins. I'm going to give the boys the pins they earned at the next meeting, of course that's if the Scout shop has them in stock. We have the same problems at times getting awards for the boys (them being out of stock). Tracy
  25. NJ Scouter: What grade in school are the boys in now? Most are in the 4th grade now. I have one that is supposed to be in the 4th grade, but he had to be put back in the 1st grade. Now this is the child that I'm having a problem with. He was a young 1st grader to begin with. I was told that he could progress in rank from tiger (the year that he completed when he was put back into 1st grade). When (month and year) are you looking for them to become Boy Scouts? I'm thinking that it'll be at least 6 months to a year before they can cross over. They have earned their Webelos patch an
