MSR Whisperlite - requires fule bottle filled with fuel. Zip Stove - electrical, requres a 9v battery to spin the fan. Mines modified with a solar cell...will burn pine cones like crazy Tuna Can stove - very lightweight, burns pricy alcohol, not efficent for groups larger than one If you're really desperate for a stove, head down to the local Big Box home repair store, and buy a small bottle of propane gas that has the torch attachment (used to solder and sweat copper pipes). It'll boill water like a champ....

Yellowstone camping information
le Voyageur replied to Troop4-NH's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Central Wyoming Council's Camp Buffalo Bill is about 7 or so miles outside of Yellowstone's east gate... -
Forgive me for doing a bit of hijacking, but the topic of crossing swords is an interesting side subject. Why is it that there are those, who instead of staying civil and respectfull, elect to draw blood at every opportunity? When you consider the negative effects of this behavior, and that it serves no real purpose, it seems that in effect it's little more than cyber bullying by trolls looking for their next victum/s...

It's a stove you don't mind carrying for a week or more without wanting to toss it in the brush on day two....

There have been a few forums (but not this one) where I've thought about using another handle when the loathing of all things French started.....but, for me, tis better to be a thorn than a rose and stay with the shadow I cast.....But with FOG, I gotta agree. Were a few times I've thought about posting my responce three or four times to cover all those different personalities....

Any of you hardy river rats run or fished this New Brunswick river?

Eamonn... hehehehehe...what a hoot:) Let Her Who Must be Obeyed know I'm upping the sewing challenge. Come spring, I'll be planting flax, and cotton. Going to make my own thread and yarn.... maybe I'll buy a sheep or two, too...

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
le Voyageur replied to Eamonn's topic in Open Discussion - Program
My two key learning experiences - The more you learn the less you know, and - That mistakes are the trail markers to success. -
Is it time for BSA National to revamp the uniform..
le Voyageur replied to le Voyageur's topic in Uniforms
That may be true....but, when a few of me buds and I did El Cap, the only thing that wasn't homemade was the rope...u ever do a vertical 4k+ A5 climb using pebbles as chocks? -
Is it time for BSA National to revamp the uniform..
le Voyageur replied to le Voyageur's topic in Uniforms
Royal is the one responsible for starting the Yosemite school of climbing way,way back when climbers were considered by the general public to be somewhat insane. He's is also responsible for starting the current climbing trend in this country. After retiring from mountaineering, he went into kayaking; and after that, he started his own line of outdoor clothing (since sold) BTW..I'm one of his many students from that era...nice to be trained by the best:) -
The current uniform has been on the shelf now for over a decade. And it's a uniform I really do not care for. IMHO...it's not a uniform that say's outdoors. Would be nice to have a uniform that demands to be in the wilderness....I would suggest that the next designer be say someone like Royal Robins, or at least someone in his class. Not a 5th Ave fashion designer, hey....

To answer the question....I'm not really sure...seems to be something missing in being an Arrowman. I rarely attend any of their functions, instead I prefer to focus on creating and developing high adventure programs. There's a lot more satisfaction in doing that, then the other....

Donated or Belong to the ACLU? Boy do they have a file on YOU!!
le Voyageur replied to mmhardy's topic in Issues & Politics
Before the word was coined, data mining has always been an element used by both our State and Federal governments; plus, we must include the private sectors also...besides the ACLU, who else may have files on you.. - the IRS - the CIA - Banks, Savings and Loans, etc. - the FBI - the NSA/NRO.....thanks to cell phones - Social Security - the DMV - your internet provider using spyware - schools - local PD's so much for privacy, hey.... -
Any tips on camping in Washington D.C.?
le Voyageur replied to Erney Reb's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Contact the DC area council, and see if they could suggest the name of a local Scouter who would enjoy spending that weekend with your unit serving as a tour guide..... -
I would first start with the fabric....which would be a mix of wool, linen [or hemp], nylon, and silver [odor control] in differnt blends for the seasons, or local preferance...

Time to talk of beads, knots and other things...
le Voyageur replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Uniforms
About the only thing I wear are the Wood Badge beads, and the Eagle Square knot....i.e. the plain Jane look...other than that I try to follow the examples set in the Desidrata; and, as training Scouters in high adventure is my primary scouting focus I take no offense if no one wishes to heed my advice in this area. As I see it, sometimes the best way for some to learn is through the school of hard knocks.... -
All I want for Christmas is............

My thinking is that these are early Coleman tents from around the 60's and 70's....

Dehydration, Heat Exhaustion, or.....
le Voyageur replied to le Voyageur's topic in Open Discussion - Program
This is true to a point...However, I've seen, and treated this condition several times in the field with overweight, and out of shape 11 and 12 year olds on easy 5 milers, more so at high altitudes....as my old SM would say, being informed makes being prepared easier... -
Made a major find today at the local Goodwill...the store had about 40 brand new, never used Eddie Bauer 32 oz lexan waterbottles, color Blue....cost, 98 cents each. Purchased 8, may just go back and buy them out...
