Basic Rules cut and paste from Application

Submit this application and agreement, along with the completed pages 6 through 10 from your Eagle

Scout Service Project Workbook, to your local council for grant consideration.

    The Agreement

I, the Eagle Scout candidate, hereby agree that I have an approved Eagle Scout service project. I will

display the Lowes National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant sign given to me by my council. I

understand that I must use my Lowes National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant toward my Eagle

Scout project and submit a copy of my completed Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to the local

council before Dec. 31, 2012. My submission must include three to five before and after pictures (high

resolution electronic or printed color copies) and receipts totaling at least $100.

Be sure the Eagle Scout service project has all approvals before the work begins.

Use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to document the results of the service project. Make photographs and all documentation available to the BSA for sharing with Lowe's.

    Things You Should Know

If you plan to spend your gift card at a Lowe's location, you should consider speaking with the local store manager when you arrive. This will help Lowe's track how well the program is being received.

Document your project with "before" and "after" photographs. Be sure photographs show how the materials and equipment purchased with the gift card were used for your service project.

  2. I agree Why give an Award to a dead person..

Instead Name an award after him

    Honor him with a Display

Name a Campsite or Fire Ring after him at a Local Camp

Honor him with a Specific Campership to his Favorite Camp

Carry on his legacy for many more generations, I think his family would be more Honored by that than a cheesy award that will be forgotten soon

I don't really have anything against the beret as a fashion issue, per se... but I just don't like them from a functional standpoint.

Really, what does a beret do? It gets wet when it rains and soaks your head. It provides nothing in the way of sunblock for your forhead, ears, or neck. They freeze your ears in cold weather. Maybe approach him to thing about function before suggesting the change. They look cool when worn correctly, but they offer very little in way of function or head protection.

Very Few Hats do any or all of the Above..

Hats very Simply help prevent body Warms loss during cold weather and not very efficiently

  4. Man Am I Glad I was in a Small Misfit Troop as a Scout..We always had fun

Headgear..Not Required..Wore What we wanted to

    Our Rules were simple

    1. No profanity

    2. No Vulgarity

    3. Never worn indoors

    3. Never Worn During outdoor church Services

I wore a Straw Cowboy Hat.

  5. And I Imagine that people will hold Catholics in the Same Regards because of What they hid and Employers will be less likely to Hire a Penn State Graduate simply because of their reps also..

Oh and lets all pull children outta Public and private schools because teachers are sleeping with them.. not to mention coaches

  6. What a Shame that with all the Money being Spent on the Summit that they couldn't make arrangements for a Train Station there...After All This is a Lifetime investment with 10's of Thousands of People coming on a Regular Basis. I believe for awhile that it will be the "High Adventure Base" to attend for sure..

Philmont may be bigger put last I remember they don't have White Water Rafting..Ziplines..BMX Bike..A Huge Brige Suspended over a Valley. And for Most Scouter more Centrally Located.

And Ain't the Summit in bidding for a World Jambo also?

Now that would be an Experience..Travel to the Summit on an Amtrak Train to and from base camp

  7. Problem I see is that everyone thinks they have the best way to do things.

My Perspective..I don't have enough Information especially the Where and the When and Also the How Long to give you proper Advice as to trek specific..

    But...

Problem with Troops buying Equipment..Less likely to be cared for..People want the Newest Gadgets..So older Stuff gets used less..You never have enough or to Much..This year you may have 60 boys in 5 years you may have 6. Newest items are always Expensive a few years later they are Cheaper than ever. While You May Envision the Troop forever hiking Endless Miles From Sun Up to Sun Set..The Youth May decide the Want to trek a Hundred Yards set up and Enjoy swiming, Rock Climbing, Climbing Trees and other Fun Activities instead..there went your plans..even worse they loose interest and never attend outdoor Events simply because they prefer to rent Cabins in National Parks. The Number of Volunteers may Drastically Drop off and only two people with Small Economy Cars can drive 40 boys have way across the Country for your 500 Mile 30 Day Excursion.

Difference in Camping Styles from Different Eras..I grew up on the Self-Reliant Hardship Camping..vs Today's Luxury Camping..

We Built shelters and Suffered Bugs..No Zippered Tent Openings..No Tent Floors

Back in My Day...we made Campfire Carried No Stoves..Even at Philmont. Now Days Many places you can't have a Campfire ..Sometimes no open Flames at all..At Times here in Texas we can't have the BBQ Grill going without a Charged Water Hose or a Fire Extinguisher. A Charged Water Hose is a Hose turned on with a Positive Water Shut Off head..

Weather..Effects the Gear you carry.. I carried 2 Blankets in the Summer..Not a Sleeping Bag...In Winter I used a Sleeping Bag..

    Meals...

    Trail Mixes to Snack on..

    Energy Bars..

    Dried Fruit..

Easy to prepare meals..such as Tin Foil Meals...Wrap Up Ground Beef with potatoes and Carrots place in Coals..You could also Prep breakfast by placing Coals in a Hole...Place in stones...Place in Tin Foil Breakfast Packets..Place Tin Foil Over and Cover up with Dirt..In Morning Hot ready breakfast.

Folding Reflector Ovens..anyone else remember these?

Now a Days even Walmart Carries High Calorie Dehydrated Meals..Simply add Hot Water..You can even buy MREs and the water activated heat Heat Packs..

Fresh Foods, just maybe you might be going somewhere where you can fish. Surprised the Crap out of our Ranger at Philmont when we had Trout for breakfast several mornings..Once surprised the Adults because we had sirloins steaks and baked potatoes because we knew on a Hike that we would pass by a Store along the route. We got Maps ahead of Time. I have even managed to hunt Rabbits and other game Animals..Leaders freaked when we had Turkey one dinner..I had my Hunting License and Turkey Stamp..Even Had Ducks. Even if you Trek the Appalachian Trail from End to End, there are supply locations to buy and Restock.

Water Filtration..Another Modern Marvel people can't live without because we are spoiled..Do some research you just might find that You will have plenty of Water sources along your Route..Boiling Water is a great way to get water and adding tea or juice mixes makes it easy to drink....I HATE HATE HATE plain Water wouldn't drink it as a kid..Still Won't as an Adult..

Clothes, Hate to say this but in My world Jeans was the only type of pants I wore and Still do...BSA Pants suck big time..I hate Switch Backs.........Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

A Simple Tarp is a great Cover and year around item

  8. Gotta Ask ..If your Not allowed to compensate for assisting in sales...Does Trail's End have to Stop giving away prizes also..

    What About prices from Councils?

Our Council is giving away a Free IPad2 to the Top Salesman over $3000.00 and Each District Top Saleman get 4 Tickets to Medevil Times In Dallas

  9. - well that's really just showing off and not how the uniform was originally intended to look.

And How Was that...As Far Back I can Remember Uniforms were designed to have Bling...We are Modeled after the Military except we did not have a Class A Uniform and a Class B uniform..We always wore patches and Such, We even have Medals. It has always been tradition "You Earned it, It is to Be Worn, Otherwise Your outta Uniform"

Scouts were always expected to Wear Class A the Official Scout Uniform at all times..Only Until Recent Years did we Start officially allow wearing of Class B Uniforms during Outings such as Hikes and Camp outs and Over Nighters

  10. I do and I watch..

I am more than Willing to Share the Experiences...

I have Regular Movie nights on the Front Lawn

you would be surprised how much fun everyone has watching Classic Cartoons and a Classic Movie on the Front Lawn..

I plan on Doing several Classic Horror Movies while I am Off for Halloween..Black and White and If I can find them Abbott and Costello meet the Mummy and Similar Movies

  12. When a TV goes out how Much Does it cost to Replace?

You Will be Surprised how Much you Will Use one.

    And For What?

I have Shown Movies at Den, Pack and Council Levels..anywhere from 10 to 1000+ People

I have used it to Project onto Screens during Awards Ceremonies from a Live feed so people in Back Can see what is going on..You will surprised how much more People appreciate that when they get stuck way in the Back of the Room and Everyone stands up or just simply Block their Views by sitting..I have left awards Ceremonies where I was So far in the Back and could see Nothing.

I have Used it during sales Events to project Pictures onto a Wall To Show Pictures of Cub Scout Outing to Show People where their money goes..
