  1. Little bit unrelated, but then again it kind of is..... The University of Illinois (the Fighting Illini:)) has been fighting to keep their mascot. Apparently some people dont like that they have an Indian who dances at basketball and football games. This guy isnt a real Indian, but does wear everything which is authentic and goes to an Indian tribe for training.
  2. NJ, for the most part I agree about 12 year olds not being ready for Philmont, etc I gotta say though that there is a boy in our troop who has already been to Philmont two or three times and he just crossed over in March. What he did there, I dont know.
  3. Dave, I think thats your second post which has created no problems. You need to keep making threads:)
  4. Ours are mixed in with the patrols because usually our camping patrols are mixed patrols anyway. Our SPL isnt always on campouts anyway so when that happens, the highest ranking scout is put in as acting SPL.
  5. For a Girl Scout day camp, I've been on staff for a number of years now. Being a Boy Scout and camp being on Boy Scout property... I usually am in charge of the hike that the older girls take during two of the days of the week. This year I may be on staff at the resident camp which the day camp staff are having afterwards. Either leading the trail again (no problem for me, I know it BETTER than the back of my hand if possible;)) or maybe even helping with climbing on the cliffs. I'll just have to wait and see, huh?
  6. Ok, I guess I need to explain myself a little, huh? People needed to take Emergency Preparedness merit badge so we decicded to do it during a troop meeting. Since most of the scouts already had the merit badge, our Scoutmaster, a volunteer firefighter, took it a little farther. We are currently making plans to help in a disaster if needed. Our area, in 1993, was hit hard with floods. So we are setting up to be ready to help if this kind of thing was to happen again. We are also going to set up a search team because we're scouts and we should be good in the outdoors, right? This is what I was needing information on. How many members should make up like a "search patrol". And what specific jobs they would have.
  7. Dave, I'm telling you, our council has an opening for Scout Executive...;) And we're pretty small. Only like four districts I think. Hey, you would most likely be able to meet purcelce and me;) Ok, I just checked the council website and apparently we have at least a temperarily Scout Executive(This message has been edited by hops_scout)
  8. I dont know how many of you have gone forward with what the BSA got worked up with the DHS... just wondering:) I'm also looking for ideas. We are currently working on setting up a unit for this purpose. We are also working on a SAR team. This is where I could use some help?? Any ideas? Thanks.
  9. FOG, I dont remember where I read that. It might have been here. I think I read it in our council's policies for web sites.
  10. What did you think of what Bush did today?:):):):):)
  11. Im an American, an American, an American soldieeeger. Toby Keiths American Soldier It is Thanksgiving 2003, and Im most thankful for the men and women who have, are, and will serve in the armed forces of the United States of America. We are the most powerful, best country in the whole world and it is all because of them risking their lives every day of the week of every week of the year. These should be our heroes; not Michael Jordan, Matt Morris, etc. How about an Army Ranger instead of a MLB player? Or even a recruit in the Army, the recruit not yet a Marine?? Our quiet soldiers are who should be our heroes. They are who I am most proud and thankful for. Ive got this graphic on my computer that I would like to describe and duplicate here WHAT A SOLDIER HAS DONE FOR ME It was the soldier who gave us the freedom of speech, not the poet. It was the soldier who gave us the freedom of press, not the reporter. It was the soldier who gave us the freedom to demonstrate, not the campus organizer. It was the soldier who gave us the right to a fair trial, not the lawyer. It is the soldier who salutes the Flag, Serves under the Flag, And WHOSE COFFIN IS DRAPED BY THE FLAG, Who allows the protester to burn the Flag. Im 14 years old. There are soldiers who are only 3 years older than I. The average American Fighting Man is only 19 years old. These men and women arent even old enough to drink a beer!!, but will still die for you and me because that is what they do. The least we can do is to support them. It isnt politics; this is plain simple common sense. Our city has a 911 system. What about America and the rest of the world?? They call on the men and women of the USA armed forces in an emergency. They are the worlds 911. It is Thanksgiving. Please remember the soldiers who are currently in Iraq, Afghanistan, and everywhere else around the world. Many who could possibly never see their family again. Please take a moment to remember them. It doesnt matter to me where you are from, the United States have probably been there to help your country out in times of need. Our soldiers need our support!!! It is not them who place them in harms way. And it isnt the Commander in Chief either. No, its the terrorists who are such cowards that they cant even show their faces. We will prevail! God Bless the USA I typed this last night just out of nowhere. It brought tears to my eyes.
  12. I agree with you, but technically the troop and pack sites are supposed to be run by an adult. This may be why it hasnt happened yet.
  13. Me and my friends (couple have tried continuing to do it) are the unofficial webmasters of the troop site. I'm the webmaster of one of the local packs. I'm also a den chief there. Our "Photographer" is our "Historian":)
  14. Another idea for insulation is to take one of those "emergency blankets" which cost you all of about 1.50 at WalMart and place it under the bag.
  15. LOL He's a dedicated Scouter.com member;) Remember, he's our jack of all trades... he rigged a wireless connection in his lightweight tent. His internet weights more than the rest of his gera combined.
  16. "What if he only has $12.50 to spend?" I dont think they are going to buy any decent pants if that is all they have to spend.
  17. Your ads werent that bad. I'm surprised your computer didn't lock up because of tripod:( I'm Star currently.
  18. Wingnut, I like that idea. I may try having it done next year here:)
  19. We are getting quite the group in here... currently lasteagle and Bob White and I are in. Please come join us.
  20. I would like to see your website just for the heck of it. You can find ours at http://www.troop323.cjb.net It isnt very good, but it is there. oh and one more thing, God is always capitalized.
  21. Somebody mentioned blood drives being done often. In our area, there were three (3) scheduled the last two weeks alone. One today at the high school. One at a church Tuesday And one more at a county building sometime soon.
  22. Si, senora or senor(?). Poorly planned ceremonies are very bad:(
