  1. Thanks for the help. Still kind of new to this. I was just looking at topics and posting. Thought it might help for my soon to be merit badge councilors if I could give them something to work off of. CPT Green
  2. everyone seems to look down on organized merit badge events where a scout can go and earn a badge. If it were not for things like summer camp or merit badge midways I would never have gotten to Eagle. Growing up in Baltimore Area Council Penn State use to run a Science and Energy camp for a week during summer camp. Great experience and I went back the next year as youth staff. All of the merit badges were class room oriented with lectures and activities and all were easily completed in the week of camp if a scout had the drive to do so. Nothing was handed to me. Everyone has been talking about
  3. I know what you mean but it does not look to bad with the "tech pocket". Now with the regular BSA shirt, yeah.....looks really bad.
  4. i got a new shirt for my girlfreind. I took some velcro and sewed onto the pocket and velcro on the commissioners patch. As long as you get a peice of velcro thats 4 inches wide you can sew it around the sides and bottom of the pocket and tack it on the top. No one will really notice the velcro. My unit patchs on my army combat uniform are the same way. Although i do not like velcro very much it does work well for the new uniform sleeve pocket and position patch.
  5. Hello As a part of my Wood Badge ticket I am putting on a "Medical Merit Badge Midway" for my district. I have the potential instructors for it but I would like to know if anyone has out there has any power point presentations (or other another type) for Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health or Veterinary Medicine? If you do it would be greatly appreciated. YIS CPT John Green

  8. I was "called out" by my DC the other day. I wear the same patches on my jac-shirt that i have on my field uniform. My jacket looks like my Scout shirt. I was always under the impression that you could wear any patch you wanted on you jac-shirt....reading this series of posts I guess I have been wrong. Was it ever allowed to wear any patch on yourjac-shirt? Being military i kind of looked at the jac-shirt in the same way i looked at my old field jacket. Looking at the uniform guide it basically said OA patchs, Philmont Bull, PTC patches, sea base, camping school etc...were just about the only
  9. when will national get into the 21st century and put the books online to download for a small fee? Back in the day I use to have a bunch or army regulations and books to carry around, now I just carry what i need on a memory stick. It wouls save national having to print books and allow updates to be made alot faster. just my 2 cents

  15. Lets not forget our past. Scouting was created by BP, a British Army General. Some early BSA uniforms were old WWI uniforms. BSA continued with a OD green style uniform for a long time. Even those little cargo like pockets on what is now the "old" uniform were taken from the military. One of the innovations to come out of WWII was the Paratrooper and the uniform they wore (cargo pockets). One of the comments I have seen in the ads for the new uniforms says "its all about the fabric". Things like moisture wicking materials, and cargo pockets may show up at Columbia and REI but all those innovat

Chief, Gold I know what you mean. I wear my uniform no matter where I am. I show up to work in my PT uniform, change into ACUs and change again into my Scout uniform. What better way to recruit!

Chiefthundercloud You hit the nail right on the head! I could not have said it any better. I agree 110%!!!
  18. It seems that BSA has been having problems with its knots. If you saw the NESA knot, Speakers knot, PTC knot or the new Commissioners knot you would see what a train wreak they were. I was lucky enough to find all 4 on eBay, the 4 oversized knots. I also have a few of the NESA knots before they were destroyed. I would think BSA has a few suppliers who make the knots but it seems that each knot has its own little differences. I think some of the problem is each division (from what I can tell) controls there own knots. I would love to actually see the Pack Trainer knot. If anyone has a image of

No Offence to the last post but I will never understand those scouters who equate "humility" and setting a good example to wearing less knots or no knots on there uniform. Maybe its just me because I am military (but have been a scout longer then a soldier) and feel you should wear what you have earned. The majority of posts I have read on this subject in other areas seem to indicate you should not wear everything your authorized because its somehow "showing off" or saying you have a big ego... I simply dont get it. Like military medals, your knots show your experience and training. I dont kn
  20. The speakers knot is basically for a bunch of guys who are "BSA approve" speakers that people can call on to speak at scouting events. I think 20 speeches and they get a knot. The philmont came out this year while i was at PTC. you have to attend 2 PTC conferences, get 3 more people to attend a conference and then you have to teach at the district or council level. Then the PHd of commissioner science is basically earning your PHd in commissioning.

  22. these people at the heritage awards are the worse people to have to deal with in my life. No customer service to speak of and every time I call I get a machine telling me to email. I have sent numerous emails and registered letters that have gone un answered. I have contacted the chamber of commerce about the company. I have been told there has been a change in management but when I sent a letter to the manager it was returned after a month. I will say this. my check is un cashed from march. You can email this guy below from the CoC but I don't know if he can really do much. Art Haviland
  23. I have gone out of my district for training and wouldnt mind going outside of my council but the biggest problem I have is finding the training. Every council and district has various formats for there web sites and then you have the issue of current information with accurate points of contact. Even in my own council its difficult to get current info and not all the districts update the council calendar or training is being conducted but not highly publicized. Since I am trainer development qualified I would love to get a hold of an approved course of instruction for SSOST to bring back to
