  1. I thought trainers edge was good forever? (Or replaced by something else)
  2. I think that we have enought awards for commissioner service but I also think BSA is trying to motovate people with awards as well. I did see a pic on the link of the knot, its all gold on red. I did see in the blackhawk area council they have something similar that recogonizes commissioners at the end of the year but who knows if its the same award/ new commish knot......
  3. I happen to get this post on yet another new knot (?) from national called the Commissioner Award of Excellence in Unit Service I dont know how accurate this info is so I thought I would post it here. This forum seems to generate alot of interesting talk. I like awards but I think national is going in the wrong direction with position speciffic awards like this (and others). http://thescoutpatchauction.com/blogsite/2011/04/20/new-commissioner-knot-coming/
  4. where on the BSA web page is the official info on 3rd and 4th beads for NYLT staffers? thanks
  5. I am not sure if there is actually a way to register someone speciffically as a alumni. I think you might have to register as a MB counselor or in a position or "at large" status. I am not sure if nation thought ahead and created anything in the online recharter or in the council member data bases. When I was in Iraq and not really a part of a troop I registered with Direct Service in there scouter reserve. I dont recall really seeing this anywhere else but with DS. Maybe scouter reserve and being a member at large (something my last district used) is one in the same? On another not

  7. Basementdweller If you go back and read over some of the posts you will see things got off topic a couple times (increasing the number of posts when they have nothing to do with the topic). The topic of square knot awards seems to be a big point of contention among some adult leaders so why wouldnt this have alot of posts? We have gone through insulting everyone in the room and implying everyone who has posted is in it for them and not the kids. Lets not start this again. There is no need to fan the embers here. YIS
  8. Oak tree my manual is packed up(just moved) but its on the first couple pages under the uniform tab. Back at Ft Bragg my crew operated a little more like a post. It was desgined for youth who were interested in the medical field. We wore scrub top with BSA insignia in the same positions as shirt green shirt.most of my youth were also VOA so hadboth. I know my old council would have accepted my scrub top at WB21 but I don't know if all councils would. Sorry for mutating the thread.
  9. A while back someone mentioned sea scouts and max# of knots. I just got the new sea scout manual , it still states 6 knots are the max. Unfortunately this new printing is about half the old book.
  10. BP My military analogy may not have been the best but military service medals and achevement medals do have some similarity to scouting training awards and achevement award. (service based & nominative) =================================================================================== I went to WB on 2008, You wear what ever uniform you wear with the insigna of your position. No more "slick sleeve" uniforms. The insignia guide recomends you wear no more the 9 knots but its only a recomendation. There is a new sea scout manual out but have not looked to see if they have changed
  11. Its interesting to see the thought process in the wearing of awards. I have been in the army 18 years and would never wear less then my 3 badges or 14 ribbons on my blues or greens, then again regulations dont really allow for you to wear less then what you have earned ( class Bs and filed uniforms are different) nor would I be looked at as being in it for myself. In scouting it seems your almost chastised for wearing the knots you have earned. Why is this? If you earned 9 knots for example then why do we say that guy is in it for himself? On the other hand if that same guy wore
  12. B.p not crying here. I don't understand your personal attacks on people in this group. I don't recall anyone here blatantly looking to get this knot before its out on store shelves. Its sad that your council is full of self serving scouter but its no reason to make negative comments in this group which at a glance of your posts in this thread you seem to do. maybe you should work at your level to make changes in things you see as needing to be fixed (ie removing self absorbed scouters).
  13. BP The number of knots on my chest is not the topic of discussion here. I dont think its fair for you to accuse others, especially people you dont know (assuming), of coddling egos. I dont think your justified in making your comment having to get it before it is even officially out. I think West Coast Scouter and JR56 said it best about people in scouting doing it for the kids. If your active in scouting and do more than one job people will recognize that. I doubt I will ever get this knot but I think the subject is interesting as to why BSA felt the need to make this a award.
  14. Bp this is a discussion forum. Who are you to judge what everyones intent is? Yeah sure some guys are in it for themselves. I really done get some comments in groups like this. Its a new and interesting subject that's why this thread exist
  15. Tex On the alumni web page it has a link to send e cards to former scouts.
  16. The wear of the yellow flag will be in the next update to the insignia guide (lol) But its available for purchase at the scout shops for$ 3.89 plus tax. Sorry couldn't resistant .....lol
  17. Having spent some time recruiting in the MD guard and as a active duty healthcare recruiter I hope the requirements are giered toward active recruitment to bring people back in. Getting people in or back in can be tough but we can do it!
  18. So hay how about that new knot! (Lol)
  19. What wrong with refering to printed materials when one has a question? Granted the insignia guide may not be the best reference but its a start. As a commissioner I work withunits / leaders who don't even have or know about things like a SM handbook. I don't understand why people in groups like this are quick to condemn somones opinion.
  20. I was at my scout shop today and was a little surprised to see the new knot. It was not for sale just yet but it was an interesting topic. Other then this new style of knot (different embordery company) the colors looked ok.

  22. What does current BSA policy or the insignia state about Wearing the bull always start with looking in a book or reference. Just my 2 cents
  23. Emb If you log into your my scoutimg profile page and look at the "alumni" box check it will give u the bsa definition. Its not the webster definition but I guess it works for bsa.... just my 2 cents for what its worth
  24. J Do u know where the requirements are listed? Thanks for the link
  25. I think BSA makes awards like this because they think its a wa to get people involved but as someone here comented, isint an alumni someone who belonged to group and has left? I think the award is flawed. Maybe the should have called it a recruiting service award? Get he red out of BSA. Some good that did with the trained tabs and numbers. Iwas told at my scout shop cub leaders wear red trained tabs (the dumb little ones) and red numbers. I am all of some slight differances in the uniforms but I think some of wha BSA does is money driven. Have you noiced when something new like the ventur
