  1. At my kids' school, they don't have a nurse, they have a health technician who is overseen by a nurse that is responsible for about six schools. The HT hands out meds (with the right paperwork), keeps a log, checks temps, and is deals with boo-boos. The HTs and nurse are not school employees, they work for the Health Department. What does it take to be an HT? Apparently just a pulse. The funny thing is that the HT at my kids' elementary school was afraid of blood. If someone had a bleeding injury such as scraped knee or a cut finger, she had to call for help which usually involved an ambulance because no one else was supposed to render first aid outside of critical emergencies. Talk about a waste of tax money!
  2. " the same act is called "a violation of academic integrity"" You may call it that but, you know what, academic integrity was something that I found very little of with most of the faculty of the two universities that I attended.
  3. Makes me really glad that I don't live in your world.
  4. " If he says "yes", I show him where the briefcase is. If he says "No", I'm done." I see a danger there. What if Bobby goes into your briefcase and palms another Scout's adderall?
  5. I always like "Herman the Worm" The Girl Scouts sing one that I like, called "Rig-a-bamboo" which is a variation on the regimental song of the Canadian Princess Partricia's Light Infantry's song.
  6. " Yes, we will give a gentle reminder if needed, but we will not actually administer. " What do we mean by administer? If it is an injection, that's pretty obvious. However, when you have pills does adminster mean to force them down his throat or is it the simple act of giving them to him? "Here Bobby, take your meds." I yearn for the good old days when kids took their meds to school and worried about them themselves. Of course that was before the black market in adderal.
  7. "GW I am not saying that this doesn't happen but just FYI, this is considered plagiarism by pretty much any university/college . . " plagiarize (plje-rz) verb plagiarized, plagiarizing, plagiarizes verb, transitive 1. To use and pass off as one's own (the ideas or writings of another). 2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another). Nope, it was my work. Fails the basic test. Still nope. I just visited my university's web site about plagiarism and they don't mention copying your own work. Maybe that's because it isn't plagiarism.
  8. Isn't that the SPL's and the PL's job?
  9. "What if a student earned an A on a paper. The next term the same student has a similar class, should he get credit for the same paper he already earned an A for? I think not." Actually, I often retyped papers and submitted them for new classes.
  10. Talk to the folks in your local lodge. You have to join the lodge in your council of current registration.
  11. She's a killer queen Gunpowder, gelatine Dynamite with a laser beam Guaranteed to blow your mind Anytime!
  12. "The life of a SE isn't always easy. I'm sure that at times making cuts and having to make decisions that they know are going to not be popular is tough and having to deal with people like me!!" The life of no CEO is easy but they usually make up for it with a great paycheck, great benefits, a wonderful parachute and the knowledge that no matter how badly they do, another job awaits thanks to the 'ol boys network.
  13. "You are a class act my friend." I need to save that message. No one has said that about me in . . . decades. :-)
  14. E, Someplace in the official literature there is a comment that if a Scout transfers into BSA from another country's Scout association, there is a process by which he can be given credit for what he's done. So if he's reached 1st Class in Freedonia, if the requirements are similar, he can be directly promoted to 1st Class here. Sounds like your lad may have gotten the short end of the stick.
  15. " But it is interesting to see the bullies reveal themselves." All together now, "We are the world, we are the children . . ."
  16. That's why they don't tap anymore. However, the Ordeal could be considered hazing. Heck, making a kid set up a tent or start a fire could be hazing. Everyone hold hands. First we'll sing Kum-by-ya and then we'll follow that with a rousing chorus of We Are the World.
  17. "I think to say that the War on Terror is not a war is wrong." You may think it is a war but wars are declared by Congress with a formal declaration. We haven't had one of those since WW II. Why haven't we declared war? Don't know. I'm not in Congress.
  18. Snipe hunts, keys to the sea chest, mail bouy watch, 6 ft of shore line . . . they are all part of testing a new guy to see if he has sand, to use the Louis L'Amouresque term. There was a Cheers episode in which Fraser was taken on a snipe hunt. He returned snipeless and volunteered to go on another. Diane asked how he could go because there were no such things as snipes. Fraser said that he was going to sneak back, take the car and leave the others out there because "that's what guys do. They screw each other to the wall." A snipe hunt or any of its analogs shows whether a guy has a sense of humor or if he's someone who has to be tiptoed around. I found something on the internet that explains much: If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah. If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes. Mike, Dave and John are guys who accept snipe hunts for what they are. If they didn't they'd be calling each other Michael, David, and John. 'nuff said.
  19. "If the speed limit is 65, I go 65 because while going faster might be more convenient for me it could be harmful to others" How could it be harmful to others? Are you such a bad driver that you'll run into other cars? Must be the case. I've driven for over 30 years and I can't even begin to count the miles that I've driven. Maybe two million. I've been in a number of accidents all when my car was stopped or nearly stopped. I've been broadsided, rear ended and hit head on. Of course there was the one that was my fault, I creased a fender in the parking spot next to mine. :-( Speed limit? Never came into play. So I'm guessing that if you'r worried about the safety of others, you must panic when you get going too fast and you know that you'll lose control of the car, crashing into pedestrians, mailboxes, and stray dogs. " that there is a proven relationship between speed and the severity of each accident that occurs." Following that logic, no one should ever go faster than . . . walking speed. You amuse me Bob. BTW Bob, you never did answer my other question. You said that you obey the laws of the community that you're in. I asked what you would have done in wartime Germany if you knew where a Jew could be found. You didn't answer that. I'm guessing that you would have turned them in because that would have been the right thing to do by the rules. (This message has been edited by Gold Winger)
  20. "In our district FOS has increased each year for the last several years, so we have added professional staff and spent gobs of money on our Summer Camp." Gobs of money? I've looked at your council's tax returns. I guess you define gobs differently than I do.
  21. " If the speed limit is 30, I go 30. Not because I trust the sign, I go 30 because that is the rule and going over 30 while it might be great for my needs can cause injury to someone else." I know that you're a traffic engineer but I once studied traffic modelling. Speed limits are rarely set based on safety, they are usually set for political reasons which is often related to revenue generation. For example, the interstate system was designed for speeds in excess of 80 MPH. However, you rarely see speed limits that high. Why? The DOT says that there is no correlation between speed and likelyhood of an accident. The answer? Politics and revenue generation.
  22. I'll ask again, why not? Flags may be hung vertically. "When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left." Is the issue with flags in a store? Is the issue with two flags in a store? Is the issue with the verticallity?
  23. That's why it's not the Vietname War, it was the Vietnam Consultative Advisory Conflict. Korea was a Police Action. War on terror is just for the press. War on drugs is just to boost the budget of DEA and make the public think that the government cares. Everyone knows that the white power elite is bringing in the drugs in an effort to commit genocide on the black community.
