American Legion Cap

Recommended Posts

Hi, our new troop is being chartered by the local American Legion Post, of which I am a member.  The members of the post were excited saying I could wear my American Legion cap with my scout uniform.  Although this is allowed by the Legion, I can find no guidelines allowing this by BSA.  Anybody encountered this before?

From the Uniform Inspection sheet

"All troop members must wear the headgear chosen by vote of the troop/team."

But if your troop has not chosen any headgear, and many do not, then you can officially wear what you want. I wear my Red Sox cap.

@Warriorpoet, welcome  to the forums and thanks in advance for all you'll do for the youth.

For the longest time, I wore a wide-brimmed leather hat. Same justification as 'schiff's.

However if your scouts feel they want to represent their CO in some way, maybe they can opt for headgear that closely matches the legion caps, or simply designate that leaders who are members of the CO may wear their legion caps while in their troop uniforms.
