FireStone
I was (possibly mistakenly) under the impression that the updated uniform pieces for Cubs would be out by summer (June). I briefly saw the new red Wolf neckerchiefs online, but then they were gone just as quickly. The only thing I've been able to find so far is the new solid-color-cover handbooks. Anyone heard anything about the uniform pieces? I was kind of hoping to tell my Wolf den we'd be wearing red in the fall, but right now it's not looking good for that to happen. I'm thinking I should plan to tell parents to buy the yellow hats and neckerchiefs.
The Latin Scot
I have noticed a bit of reluctance on the part of the BSA to come forward with the fact that these changes are even happening. I even sent a few e-mails to Bryan Wendell (from the Bryan On Scouting blog) suggesting he publish a post discussing the new materials; I figured something about it would have been mentioned officially ages ago - and yet not a word of it has come out yet, and the thread I started on the forums there remains silent. From the information I have been able to piece together, however, the changes to the program materials are going to be "rolling changes," meaning the new items will not become available until all the old stock is sold through. The books appear to be an exception, as naturally families and leaders need the published materials in order to comply with the latest advancement standards, but everything else will simply have to wait until all the previous stuff is gone. How long that will take is anybody's guess. I suggest just going with what they have for now; it could be quite a long time before all the old stuff sells through. Chris1
The new colors will only come out once the supply of current ones is sold, so I would guess next year, at the earliest, before we see them.
shortridge
According to Texas Trails Council (http://www.texastrailsbsa.com/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.aspx?orgkey=2998&itemkey=14780), the new neckers are indeed going to be on a rolling basis, but yellow will still be OK for Wolves. So there’s going to be some mismatchery over the next year or so. I did see a local Cub day camp photo with a girl wearing the red necker, so I assume some are available somewhere. It also states new incoming Webelos will all wear tan, leading to a phaseout of the blue uniform for Webs over the next few years.
John-in-KC
Cub Scout color neckerchief are a BSA Supply Corporation rip-off. I was perfectly ok having my yellow necker all the wat through Cubbing (1965-8)
