  1. Rooster, Im glad you made that smiley faux pas before did, I was going to add the + too. Basic HTML These are called tags , < I >text< /I >. The greater-than and less-than keys go immediately around the tag command with no space between the command and the greater-than and less-than symbols, for demonstration purposes I need to put a space in between. < I > this turns on the tag, and this < /I >, the backslash before the command, turns off the tag. DO NOT FORGET TO TURN OFF YOUR TAGS OR THEY WILL CONTINUE ON TO THE NEXT PERSONS POST. Sorry, I wasnt yelling. To highlight text, simply put you tags before and after the desired text. The tags can be in either upper or lower case. Like this.< I >italics< /I >< b >bold< /b >< u >underline< /u >< S >strikeout< /S >< font size=6 >font size #6< /font> use font size number 1 through 7. 1 is the smallest and 7 is the largest. < center >center< /center>< font color=red >red< /font >Try these out first and feel free to ask questions.
  2. I have a stupider question. Is stupider a real word? Anyway, how do you make the little smiley faces with the yellow circle? If youre interested Ill trade you for showing how to do basic HTML.bolditalicunderlinestrike throughfont sizecentercolorAnd on and on.
  3. I thought this was a rather unique service project. Kudos to Mr. Bidlack.
  4. Eagle Scout project: videos for little ones Robert Bidlack collected almost 750 tapes for St. Lukes pediatric unit. By Kathy Lauer-Williams Of The Morning Call January 24, 2002 Boy Scouts Robert Bidlack, Nicholas Hahn and Al Capwell struggled to fit three handcarts and a trolley piled high with dozens of videotapes and games into the elevator to get them to the pediatric unit at St. Lukes Hospital in Fountain Hill. The three Bethlehem boys were delivering almost 750 videotapes, six video game systems and 50 video games to the hospital Wednesday to fulfill 17-year-old Bidlacks Eagle Scout project. Itll help a lot of little kids, Bidlack said. This will give them something to do while theyre in the hospital. The 748 tapes, all G- and PG-rated titles ranging from Barney to Disney, will more than double the size of the pediatric units video library, said Charlotte Becker, head of patient care. This is a welcome addition, she said. Children love to watch movies, sometimes the same one three or four times. Becker said all the rooms on the eighth-floor pediatrics unit have videocassette recorders and the unit has been accepting donations of videotapes for five years. Bidlack, a member of Troop 362, sponsored by East Hills Moravian Church in Bethlehem, said he planned to collect 150 videos when he started the project three months ago but decided to keep going when the donations started pouring in. He succeeded far beyond his wildest dreams, said Sally Haggerty, troop committee chairwoman and a St. Lukes pediatrician. Some of the boys in the troop have been in the hospital, so he knew they could use the videos here. She said the donation will greatly improve the video collection because the tapes get used often and wear out quickly. Bidlacks parents, Nancy and Jerry Bidlack, said the teen has been passionate about Scouting since they adopted him from Brazil seven years ago. This is quite a culmination for him, Nancy Bidlack said. Hes done a terrific job, Jerry Bidlack added. Were very proud of him. Robert Bidlack said he collected the videotapes and games by making announcements at churches and schools, putting up posters and writing letters to video rental stores. He also collected $300 that he gave to Becker to buy games to go with the video systems.
  5. you wanted a cold rinse since the bleach would break down. If I am wrong, I would like to know. Brad, I spoke to a chemist friend regarding your query. He concurs that a hot/boiling rinse of bleach and water will release the chlorine from its bond to the isotope. Chlorine is a gas. However, the rinse temperature does not need to be cold, in fact it can be faucet hot but not scalding to the touch. He said it takes a great deal of time for the chlorine to dissipate and I gather much longer than the time needed for KP duty.
  6. Now, why is it that girls can have an ear pierced but a boy cant? Are we talking about etiquette and good taste or the stigma associated with the apperance of poor character? Rooster is right, boys are different than girls, and unless they want to pretend they are pirates they should leave such things for the opposite sex.
  7. With regard to the tattoo thing, that's a non-issue Not true, most states allow parental consent under 18. Im a wrestling coach and routinely see high school kids on other teams with tattoos, its not a figment of my imagination. Look, I dont want to get into a flame war here and it appears that your children have turned out great, but what if they were applying for a job, would you want them to wear their earrings and brandish their tattoos? Lets face it, we are all judged every day by our appearances, verbal skills and a host of other things. If a parent allows their children to go out with their hair uncombed, in dirty or ratty clothing or anything else that might be the fad, right or wrong they are going to be judged. Theyll be judged by their teachers, coaches, employers, pears and anyone else that may have a positive or negative influence on the outcome of their lives, why would any parent want to gamble that their sons math teacher might give poor marks because he didnt think an earring was appropriate in his class? Yeah sure your children turned out fine but thats not the point, you take a chance on the outcome of their lives when you allow them to make decisions that potentionally can negatively impact their futures. a sweeping generalization like yours is pretty mean-spirited. Mean-spirited, negative? Since when did traditional values become mean spirited? I think youre being a bit too dramatic. The only thing that is negative is your defensiveness, I guess I would be too if I had to defend whether my parenting was questioned. Bottom line, IMHO, I think you gambled and got lucky, thats something I wont do with my children.
  8. Or, was that an attempt at humor that simply lacked the little smiley thing? Not hardly there olbuddyIts my opinion and Im sticking to it. I would also find parents who allow their children to get tattoos are being irresponsible as well. The adult non-conformists who conform to non-conformity are fine by me but I think there is a bright line when a parent allows a child to perminantly alter their body.
  9. LHMO you may be mistaking with LMAO which means, and I apologize in advance for anyone offended, laughing my @$$ off. Then there is ROFLMAO which means, rolling on floor LMAO.
  10. IMHO In my humble opinion! LMHO I've never seen before.
  11. Perhaps this thread needs to be in the P&I forum. IMHO, piercings on men, including Pirates, is an obvious sign of anti-social behavior and has no place in scouting. Piercings on boys is an obvious sign of irresponsible anti-social parenting and regardless shouldnt be allowed to be worn during scout functions.
  12. Wow, this is pretty dern coolYou can make it into a tent, a lounge chair, a sleeping pad, a ground cloth, a hat, a broach, a pterodactyl. No, seriously this is a good idea!
  13. We have 3 washing tubs that nest in each other. I made tripods out of metal pipe that had chains hung from the apex to hold the metal wash tubs over the fire. I did it for my Star project if I remember correctly. They worked well for car campouts but werent practical for backpacking, they can move up and down as the fire is stoked or fades.
  14. Dont forget to rub liquid soap on the outside of your pots before you put them into the fire and cook your food.
  15. discrimination based on age, disability, national origin, race, marital status, religion or sexI didnt realize that atheism is considered a religion, I thought it is the disbelief in God. If religion is a system of beliefs how can disbelief receive the same status of consideration, where is the religion to discriminate against? The controversy is now before Bunn, because it is the Boy Scouts, not the schools, that turn away boys who don't believe in God. Makes sense to me.Side note; a big thank you to the moderator for the quick response to my formatting problem.

  17. Judge rules for boy in Boy Scouts case 12/13/01 BETSY HAMMOND Portland schools illegally discriminated against atheist students by allowing the Boy Scouts to recruit during school hours, and state officials are wrong to allow the practice to continue, a judge decided Wednesday. That was the upshot of a ruling by Judge Ellen Rosenblum in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Schools across Oregon that allow Boy Scouts to recruit on campus have been closely watching the case, which has been in and out of court for more than four years. The judge ruled that Oregon school Superintendent Stan Bunn must rewrite his decision allowing Oregon public schools to let the Scouts make a pitch to captive groups of schoolchildren. It was a victory for Northeast Portland mother Nancy Powell, who has waged a 41/2-year battle to stop in-school recruiting by the Boy Scouts because the organization allows only boys who swear a belief in God to join. Her son, Remington, was repeatedly recruited by the Scouts at school, beginning when he was a 6-year-old first-grader and continuing after she complained. After hearing evidence that Bunn did not hear, including watching videotapes of a Boy Scout recruiter making his pitch in several elementary cafeterias this fall, Rosenblum ruled for the Powells. "It was an abuse of discretion for (Bunn) to find insubstantial evidence of discrimination based on religion," the judge said. "The evidence of discrimination is sufficient, and it was sufficient before today." Oregon has stronger anti-discrimination laws than many states. One law, dating from the 1970s, says in part that, "No person in Oregon shall be subjected to discrimination in any public elementary, secondary or community college program or service. "Discrimination is defined as "any act that unreasonably differentiates treatment . . . based on age, disability, national origin, race, marital status, religion or sex." Both sides in the Powells' case have agreed that "because he is an atheist, Remington may not join the Boy Scouts." Rosenblum's decision, which she issued orally after a daylong hearing, does not settle the question of what will happen with Boy Scout recruiting in Oregon schools. The controversy is now before Bunn, who has twice ruled that Boy Scout recruiting during school is OK because it is the Boy Scouts, not the schools, that turn away boys who don't believe in God. The judge said Bunn should try to work out an agreement between the Powells and the American Civil Liberties Union lawyers who represent them and the Portland School Board, which favors allowing in-school recruitment to continue. If that doesn't work, Bunn will have to hold a hearing and issue a new decision, the judge said. Rosenblum made it clear that Bunn's July 2001 decision upholding Portland schools' current practice, saying "no substantial evidence exists to support the charges of discrimination," will need to change. Bunn was traveling Wednesday and unavailable for comment, said Barbara Wolfe, a Department of Education spokeswoman. Deputy Attorney General Peter Shepherd said state officials are weighing whether to appeal Rosenblum's decision or to accept the case for a rehearing before Bunn. Remington Powell, an atheist who is now an 11-year-old sixth-grader, testified in court Wednesday for the first time in the case's history. He vividly recalled some details from the first time a Scout recruiter came to Harvey Scott Elementary and told him and other first-graders how much fun Cub Scouts have. His school counselor seconded that. So he raced out of school door that day to tell his waiting mother, an activist atheist, that he wanted to join. "It sounded fun and I wanted to try it," he said. "When my mom told me the Boy Scouts do not take our kind, I started crying and sobbing . . . I was really sad." Stephen Bushong, the attorney for Bunn, prompted Remington Powell to admit that he never tried to join the Scouts after his mother told him he would not be accepted. Thus it was Nancy Powell, not the school or the Scouts, that made Remington feel left out, Bushong said. When his children, now teen-agers, were younger, Bushong said: "I told my kids a thousand times, 'no,' and they broke into tears." Parents have to be prepared to set limits for their children and deal with the grief that results, he said. Boy Scout leaders say it is essential for them to be able to recruit new members at school because it is the most complete, most effective and least expensive way to get the word out. The organization teaches leadership, outdoors skills, teamwork and wholesome values to young boys, along with reinforcing a belief in and respect for God, they say. Portland public school officials have cited the same advantages when explaining why they support giving the Scouts and other community groups access to students during the school day. 18. In accordance with the provisions of the Boy Scout of America congressional charter any imitaton of United States Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps uniforms is prohibited. Heres the charter (http://uscode.house.gov/DOWNLOAD/36C309.DOC ), I cant find anywhere it says this, would you mind helping me find it? There is no coments in this chapter on Class B uniforms, so I say the BSA does not endorse Class B. There are many things that are not commented on, on purpose, by the BSA. Does that mean everything uncommented on by the BSA is not endorsed? If Class Bs are not endorsed then where does the activities shirt fit in, in the catalog it is listed as a uniform option? it is all in writting and clear, right? It would seem so except how does the BSA define imitation of military uniform? Is it full uniform with insignias, full uniform with no insignia, any parts? If parts count, do boots, canteens or socks count? How broad or narrow is the definition?
  19. OR NOT. NOTI just dont understand, is there a Class B uniform or is it just a figment of my imagination?
  20. finding new excuses and rehashing all the old excuses for not wearing the uniformWithout rereading, this must mean you dont recognize the existence or acceptance of the so-called Class B uniform regardless of whether como is worn? Given that, and your noted aversion to this thread, perhaps we would be well served to start a new thread that discusses the legitimacy of a wearing a Class B uniform.
  21. May Brighid light your way on the journey of your soul. May Paganism forever remain unrecognized by the BSA.
  22. OGE, you are not going to find any "unbiased" sites either way. Im not sure I agree that NARTH or Exodus is biased though I would concede both have an agenda. If I found OGEs smoking gun independent study, it would surely be on NARTH and the fact is that NARTH uses independent studies for nearly all of their position statements. The simple truth is that people have changed their behavior and this should serve as proof to anyone who wants to find it. The sad thing is that OGE unfortunately is not interested in the truth, he has summarily dismissed NARTH and Exodus without any evidence of bias other than his own opinion. OGE, if you want independent studies here are some, let me know if you need more. Gabbard, G. (1992).
