Agree 100%. In fact, enhancing and improving YPT is one of the key non-monetary requirements for the TCC to recommend approval of a Plan. The BSA knows that, but utterly blew it off in what they filed. Zippo. This is the sort of nonsensical, arrogant non-negotiating negotiation strategy that infuriates us as survivor claimants. Thank you. Me as well. Your time in Scouting sounds amazing. I’m glad to have a place to give voice to my many silent fellows. In a way, it fills my cup. I share here more as a way to put a “face” on the otherwise amorphous group of survivor claimants, which some see as the marauding force storming the Scouting castle. I didn’t want that to be the only perception or allow the screeching voices of certain attorneys to distract from and drown out the deeply human story at hand.

Which genuinely hurts my heart. I say this only to note the “law” of consequences, whether physical, financial, spiritual or whatever. I’m not making a judgement or saying it gleefully. “Sins of the father...” I’ll add a footnote: I don’t like how this case has been built by aggregators and advertising, assuming funny business, which I can’t confirm. This goes back to my questions on whether the Ad Hoc Committee of LC’s is representative of the whole. Is there any collegiality between LC’s such that one/some would help the others, whether day to day or contributing to the Trust?I bet not, which is sad. If there has been poor management of the insolvent ones, that’s one thing. Crap luck another. I suppose one LC mostly uses its camps and HA, so others are of little interest or concern.

I wondered, as well, and recalled reading this NYT article. It states the obvious about the subjectivity of valuing fine art, as well as the fact that some of the pieces were constrained by BSA commission guidelines. I’m sure the TCC knows, but is there any sense of the average liquid and real property asset value of the LC’s? I realize the Councils will be “called upon” to contribute based on SoL status and claims filed, but it might be informative. Does it range from squeaking by to 100’s of millions, property values included?

Personally, I’m watching the disposition of this as a possible indicator of Judge Silverstein’s inclination toward finding the LC assets to be separate or within reach. I know, I know. They are technically very different. I’m talking about where her head is at on cutting through what some assert are smoke and mirror games to get on with it. For context, the generally accepted stat is at least 1 in 6 men have been sexually abused or sexually assaulted. (This includes during adulthood, btw.) Even if the 11,000 number shouldn’t be taken as fully accurate, if there such a thing, this is a very good sign. Great. Thanks. You're not attacking me by responding with your opinion and good, additional data. I was merely pointing out a factor that must be applied if we are to properly interpret the data. Some of what I take as my part here is to do that from a survivor perspective who knows as well as anyone how the creeps seep through. On its face, the data looks like YPT is a slam dunk. For some, that's it. Case closed - it worked, even if there are 11,000 claims. But, considering all factors that may contribute to the drop is important to understand what the numbers are actually "saying." It seems like I've been hearing that the BSA and Scouters can be too narrow in view and perspective, and insular and self-protective institutionally. I'm trying to encourage moving away from that, since it seems to be getting you and Scouting into trouble. I may be wrong.

True, indeed. As has been said, however, BSA has critical distinctions from other youth organizations. Two of note: 1) BSA fundamentally and morally elevated itself above most other youth programs and activities, save maybe religious. Personally, having been intimately involved in just about all youth activities I could get myself into (on the cheap), BSA's iconic image of wholesomeness, virtue, good fun and hard work stood it above the (Catholic) Church for a working class kid like me. I don't pretend to speak for anyone else. The Church was somewhat removed in space and time; impractical, mystical and often irrelevant between Sacraments. Scouting brought the sanctity of the good, right, honest and true into my daily world of craft, sport, training, outdoorsmanship, leadership and all the rest. Think, the Rockwell Collection; and 2) Scouting provides a complete range of opportunities and settings for access to children by ill-intentioned adults that others don't, when taken separately. If you combine all other youth activities, you get the what BSA has in one program. We've talked about this many times, but having done, band, sports, choir, theater, speaking clubs, civic clubs, Boys State, forensics, academic clubs, CCD, student government, Scouts, youth group/retreats, blah, blah, blah, Scouting was far and away the most vulnerable to exploitation. In many cases, exponentially. It just doesn't work to compare context with most other youth organizations. I didn't do travel sports, because it wasn't much of a thing back when (at least where I grew up).

That data hasn't and probably won't be released from the data room, since it's directly connected to individual claims. This is my understanding. Same with attaching specific locations to CO's with similar names. There are multiple variations of potentially the same entity - St. John's, St. John, Saint John's, St. John's School, St. John Parish, and etc. I tried to find the city and state for some with no success with inquiries to the Key Master. There, I go again.

This was raised above, but I don't know how to show the link to the poster, MYCVAStory. Unless the YPT absolutely locked in during the last decade plus, you can't take that 11,000 as gospel. All data indicates child sexual abuse by men against boys is reported at least 10 years later than for girls abused by men. For most men, it's well into their 30's. For me, I was 41. Exhibit 1 at Page 3 of the Claims Data shows the dramatic declination of claims (as filed in this case only) in recent years. If it the YTP began working like a finely oiled machine or if the reports have not yet surfaced is the question. Only time will tell and that's why there is a future claimants committee, as I understand it.

The term, "it happened on your watch" seems most apt. If the whole of society is to blame and liable for everything culturally "winked at" that then manifests in isolated cases - families, churches, youth organizations, schools, and, etc. - thereby exonerating the overseeing entities who specifically winked at specific incidents that occurred while they were stewarding children, we've entered the twilight zone. I literally asked to speak with him and they declined to give me the opportunity. I never spoke with the other Scouters who MUST have known. I think this is both what I said and implied. With what consideration do they suppose they are buying protection from future lawsuits? That's the logical disconnect I can't reconcile. Very good point. Sorry. They were inaccurate, whether innocently tossing roses or otherwise. Again, all I was doing is pointing out that I watched the proliferation of claims, checking to see what was landing on my Troop and in the LC's area. In my case, they were pretty on point. I didn't mean it to be an official anything. It's one of the large attorney groups accused of questionable tactics. I wrongly assumed most put the two together and might flavor with a grain of salt or 100. My bad. Since many were ignorant of any claims of note, this gives some idea of the explosion. I imagine a data entry person in a call center somewhere is plugging them in and misfiring once, twice or...

Wow. They were shoveling it deep and wide with a mining front loader. That's just one group of attorneys showing where their clients have claims. I shared it to show the way I was tracking claims while they were being filed up until November 16, 2020, since so many here had no idea of the mounting claims within their Troop or LC.
