  1. "Scoutparent wasn't so eager to kick "humper" out of the troop. Wanted to look at his background, did he know he did wrong, how did he feel afterwards. But hey, here is a kid that has such a strange problem, get rid of him." We know how to deal with "humpers," must of us aren't prepared to deal with kids who smear feces on the wall. We don't know what steps the Scoutmaster took. For all we know, the following conversation took place (bear in mind that she reportedly used foul language) SM: I wish that you had told us what form your son's problems took. Mom: You F-ing i
  2. The meaning of "I know how to use it" is contexual but is usually meant as a threat. "I have a computer and I know how to use it," when said to a politician means that you're going to jump on bulletin boards and slam him. No one in that room thought that he was announcing that he knew how to operate his pee bag. The intent, humourous or not, was threatening. I don't know where you got your G2SS but mine doesn't say that waving a bag of urine and making threats is acceptable.
  3. Sctmom, The simple fact of the matter is that we still have only one side of the story and unless the Scoutmaster in question comes here, we aren't likely to hear both sides of the story.
  4. What was the reaction of the SM whose boy did the deed?
  5. "They where only going to be ran off hours (non Prime time) between 3 and 5 in the morning," That's the time that most parents are watching TV with their kids.
  6. I don't know about the campaign but I'd be willing to guess that the HOMOsexual loving TV stations aren't willing to run the ads. They'd rather run ads for essential products like Viagra and Trojan condoms.
  7. I signed up for the excellend pay and benefits.
  8. Tsk, tsk, Bob. You stooped to taking a shot at me. Pretty easy to do when you hide behind an pseudonym. I wonder if you'll get smacked by your buddy, the "publisher". As for harm intended or done, there was less harm done by the boy who teased the other boy. For all you know, one of the boys who was threatened by the bag of urine was traumatized by the event and has wet his bed ever since. Worse yet, one of them may think that threatening to spray urine on other scouts is appropriate behaviour and, lacking a bag of it, will do something even more unacceptable. OGE, the problem
  9. "I don't know of any law enforcement agency that is going to run finger prints for an unknown crime." I've had to have a background check done to umpire baseball. I don't what the cost is, I just had to pay $10 at the police station to get my prints taken, then I turned that card in to my association's head. A month or so later, he and I both got a letter stating that I had no record.
  10. Sorry OGE, but you're applying a double standard here. Just as when someone says, "I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it." or they hold up a liquor store with a cap gun, waving a bag of urine and proclaiming "I know how to use it" carries with it an implied threat. Face it, your son committed a criminal act, just like you claimed that other boy did. The difference is that one boy is your son and the other isn't. BTW, I never suggested that you thrash your son although in the given circumstances, it might be a good idea.
  11. Peyote, common name for a small, spineless, turnip-shaped cactus, native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. The grayish, mushroom-shaped tops, called peyote or mescal buttons, yield nine alkaloids, of which mescaline is the principal active agent. The dried buttons are eaten, brewed into a tea, or powdered and packaged in capsules. The mescaline in these preparations alters perception, producing vivid color hallucinations, inaccurate estimation of time, and a feeling of anxiety. It is not known to be habit-forming, but use of impure or large doses can have toxic effects, such as nau
  12. Bob, we still only know one side of the story. We don't know how the Scoutmaster percieved the boy when he joined the troop. We don't know how the mother represented the boy when he joined the troop. We know very little except what a newspaper has reported about what a biased person has said.
  13. Oh flightless bird from the land down under, I have no idea what you were babbling about in your penultimate post. Perhaps you had been sampling something like an Australian form of peyote. Alas, a mind is a terrible thing to lose.
  14. "Say, did anyone notice that Greg Shields the BSA national spokesman stated that the Scoutmaster has the final say on who can be a member of a unit?" Actually, the newspaper reported something. We have no way of actually knowing what Shields said. For all we know, he said, "it requires action by the troop committee and the Charter organization to remove a boy from a unit." They reporter went into tiny brained tilt mode and translated that to "Scoutmaster." I've been interviewed for the paper many times and I was even on CNN once. It amazed me at how well they could change wha
  15. "in a democracy founded by a revolution, it's possible to engage in civil disobedience *because* you love your country? " Hoo-RAH!
  16. that your son should be kicked out of Scouting. Why? Well, you recounted the story in which your son threatened other scouts with a sack of urine. Where I live, threatening another person with bodily fluids is considered assault. By this action, your son has exhibited hostile tendencies and has probably learned those at home because he is abused. There are a couple possible courses of action. Report this event to the police and youth protection authorities. Send your son to counseling for his hostile actions. Send you to counseling to make sure that you are not abusing y
  17. "I have to laugh at that because the school said the exact opposite to me . . ." Remember, educators are experts at saying what they need to say to make everything your fault. Elsewhere, I reported my experiences with my son's school and their insistence that they medicate him. Not only are they two faced but they lie with both of them. Can you tell that I don't like the school system very much. BTW, this in in middle school, my son is sitting in the traditional rows rather than the desk clusters that they used at the elementary school and his is doing 100% better. For five
  18. "the reason we do our own prizes is that somewhere along the way we decided that we could get more "bang for the buck" if we took the additional percentage by forgoing the traditional prizes, and did our own." I never knew that was an option. However, as stretched as our pack committee was, I doubt that anyone would want to have gone to the trouble to shop for prizes. I did notice that something changed with the prizes over the years. The first year, my son saw tons of stuff that he wanted. The second, third and fourth years, pretty much the only thing that he wanted was the Wal-M
  19. Amaazingly, I'm not an expert in the subject of autistic chilred (or in PC speak Children with Autisim) but I have my opinions. It doesn't strike me that being mostly mainstreamed in classes is the same as being mainstreamed in a Scouting environment. Is it fair to ask the Scoutmaster take on the burden of worrying about a "special needs child"? Did the mother make a real offer to go or was it, "Fine, I'll go if you can't handle it!" What is the troop policy on parents going to camp? Did the scoutmaster want to not set a bad precedent? After all, is not the goal of mainstream
  20. Red Feather, I may be wrong and I'm sure that Bob will let me know but I was told that units may not ask for donations. That includes "consumables" for hot dog sales.
  21. "Each den collected dues to cover craft supplies and snacks. Or you can rotate who brings snacks. Or just not have snacks (yes, the children will survive). " My son's den leader got rid of snacks at the den meetings because it chewed (no pun intended) up too much time. You're right, the boys survived. For some reason people always want to stuff food into kids' mouths and it is usually cookies or cakes. After we do that, we then complain about all of the fat kids (two years ago, I ran across a second year Webelos who weighed 300 lbs).
  22. Cubmom, Pack and Troops are separate units. Cub Scouts are oganized in Pack which consist of a number of Dens. Boy Scouts are organized in Troops which consist of a number of patrols. I don't know how Varsity Scouts or Venturers are organized. I'm a bit confused by your "prizes." Do you as a unit provide these prizes or are they the prizes provided by "Trails End" and your council? In addition to the prizes that boys earn, which usually include Wal-Mart gift cards (my son's favorite prize), many units give part of the unit's profit back to the boy that does the s
  23. I'm a bit confused here. If this scout isn't active, why is he requesting financial aid? Secondly, there are steps you can take to suspend his membership in your troop. Finally, as far as I know, financial aid from a troop is not a right.
  24. I didn't see either movie Bob but I'd be willing to bet that Jack Nicholson didn't say either of those things. His characters did. You see, Nicholson is an ACTOR and he doesn't speak his own words, some one else writes things for him to say. Hey, much the same as you.
  25. "To say "we still don't know if the younger scout did anything to provoke the situation." harkens back to the days when men who molested women would say, "but look how she dresse, she asked for it"" This is only true for women and children. If I walked into a biker bar and announced that Harleys sucked, everyone would say, "fool, he got what he deserved." If I go someplace frequented by Marines and announce that Chesty Puller was wimp and a fag, everyone would say, "fool, he got what he deserved." The prudent person doesn't provoke criminal response. Why do you and OGE hide yo
