Has anyone noticed that although I was abused by members of this board for not filling out my "profile", your hero, Bob White, left important parts of his blank? What are you afraid of Bob?

"they tell inappropriate jokes without checking for a potentially appreciative audience (my husband still does this, but I hope to break him of it before Social Security checks begin)" This may constitute sexual harassment. You husband should seek professional help.

OGE, your world view is skewed. Plain and simple. From the way that you talk, everything that could go wrong in your life did go wrong. Quite honestly, the abuse that you and "the trained professionals" see was never as widespread as you want to believe. By today's standards, most of my generation was abused. We got smacked when we got out of line. We got our mouths washed out with soap for using foul language. If you got in trouble at school, you were in twice as much trouble at home. Now the big punishment at my daughter's school is sitting on the bench outside the principal's office. The kids think that it is a joke. You get sent to the principal's office and she talks to you with her "sad face" then you sit on a bench for half an hour. Wow! My neighbor's daughter started beating on her father who has a bad heart. Mom pulled the daughter off dad and then called the police. The police made mom move out until things were "resolved" because she used force against her child. The inmates are running the asylum.

How about if we bring Tom Cruise for you?

What we have is a bunch of teachers and doctors who are compelled by laws drafted by professional busybodies to report everything and anything. It is an incestuous system in which the "trained professionals" create the justification for their own existence. It is to their benefit to create new definitions of abuse and then ram them down the throats of the public.
-
The big problem is that the "trained professionals" are extremists. They think that two kids arguing over who gets to sit where demands counseling. They think that a parent who grabs a child and drags him crying out of a toy store is abusing that child. These "trained professionals" have the confidence of very few Americans but everyone is afraid to speak out because they are afraid that they'll be marked by the "trained professionals."

Hey look, you left OGE speechless. :-)

No big deal. He checked the whois database.

Still don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you need some rest.

"As not a member of the internet community (huh?) " Okay, I'll say "huh?" As for those profiles, they're really meaningless aren't they. I have no way of knowing if your anonymous profile is accurate and I really don't care if you know mine. If you want, you can call NCAC and investigate me.

Venturer2002, it is just practicality. On a cold night, would it be better to share your tent with a crying 8 year old or snuggly blond?

"I don't know if there is any other reason to be prescribed alcohol" My endocrinologist recently told me that current research shows that a drink or two a day is proving beneficial for BP control, cholesterol control, and a host of other ailments. Stroke patients have long been told to have a drink a day, usually wine but vodka would probably work as well. "It would also be nice to share my tent with the homesick Scout or the single-parent Cub who can't go camping otherwise. " I'd prefer to share my tent with Claudia Schiffer or Heather Locklear. :-)

Ah, the BSA rules on alcohol, civilization at its worst. However, I do abide by the no alcohol rules and only lick the Sterno cans at the end of the day. It is too bad that Scouters cannot be trusted to have a glass of wine with dinner or a beer at the end of the day. Just like on the roads, the one drink guy isn't the problem but he gets hammered because the rules are written for the lowest common denominator. Now here's a question for the rule book guys. I can take all sorts of meds if I have a doctor's order to do so. Valium, Quaalude, Prozac, Percodan, Demerol, etc.. What if I have a doctor's order to have a shot of vodka every evening?

"Anyway, I will be serving as Cubmaster until February when my son crosses over. My biggest challenge is recruiting someone to take over at that time." Might I suggest that you stay until the normal program year is over, in May or June. That way, the new guy gets to start up with a fresh program year. Also, no one will be able to say, "That Scoutmom, as soon as her son is done, she's gone like a Bat escaping from Hades."

Note to self: Proofread! I don't know if creased sleeves is "military style." My dress shirts all come from the laundry with the sleeves creased and ironed flat. It's hard to do otherwise if you get heavy startch. Now, my uniforms I have ironed with military creases (vertical creases on the front and back). Why? I like the look. I even have that done to any of my shirts with two pockets, including my Pendleton wool shirts.

"What is an unofficial neckerchief?" The list would include the "checkered flag" neckerchiefs that I made for the boys going to the district Pinewood Derby and the "Stars and Stripes" neckerchiefs as well. As an aside, I Boy Scout function to attend the other day but I couldn't find my official green with red stripe socks. I elected to wear my USMC issue OD socks. Alas, when I sat my trouser cuff rode up and exposed the top of my socks and they were spotted by the SPL. The SPL charged over to me and informed me in no uncertain that my flagrant disregard for the uniform rules was undermining the entire program and that I needed to leave before my attitude infected the Scouts. :-)

"spend one's energy delivering a quality program instead of tinkering with the official uniform? " What energy? One day, the boys say, "Can we get a red, white and blue neckerchief." One mom goes to the fabric store, buys the cloth and runs up a dozen or two neckerchiefs on her serger. Costs about $10 and takes an hour. Consider this, if the Special Forces hadn't broken the uniform rules, they wouldn't be known as "The Green Berets" today. According to legend, they wore an unauthorized beret during a dog 'n pony show for JFK. He liked the look so it became regulation.

"but Yaworski and NJ, if you two were sitting across from each other at a campfire, would you be talking to each other like you are here?" Most liberals don't like to be in the same room because I don't allow them to spout their tripe with impunity. I find it interesting that the liberals expect everyone to be nicey-nicey when it comes to their beliefs and lifestyle but they have no qualms about voicing their opinions about your beliefs or lifestyle. Watch any talk show with a conservative and a liberal. The conservative allows the liberal to speak but as soon as the conservative starts to present his counterpoint, the liberal starts interrupting.

"Yaworski, out of curiosity I decided to check your member profile for this forum---it's blank. Interesting. " If you were paying attention, you'd have noticed that I posted everything about me in another thread. http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=15201#id_15251 The profiles are meaningless since most of you use fake names. I could call myself "San Diego Sea Lion" and claim that I had been a Cub Master, Scout Master, Unit Commissioner, District Commissioner, and District Training Chair. So what?

Wasn't that fire started by a Ranger or am I thinking of another conflagration?

That should have read: "The volunteers and staff of the BSA have tested and developed these programs and program elements over 90 plus years." I was going to say something but your comments aren't worth it.

"I think you need to brush up on your lexicography. According to the online Webster's dictionary I just consulted, one of the meanings of "gay" is "homosexual." So "gay" is correct, regardless of whether any particular gay or straight person is happy or not." The dictionary only reports usage, not correctness. If the HOMOsexuals of the world decided to call themselves "Cub Scouts" and the dictionary reported that, would that be correct? I get the impression that you like HOMOsexuals and would be in favor of having one as Cubmaster. "I suspect that almost everybody else knew I was making a joke" Joke? I know many Africans that have an African name and a "Christian name." Many people in my church have a Baptism name that is different than their legal name. Why would a Hebrew name surprise me?

"This boy is not a scout, he is a thug hiding in a scout uniform." I was going to respond but you're not worth the time.
