  1. Scoutldr,

We invaded Iraq because they violated the provisions of the 1991 cease fire or agreement that we didn't stomp his guts out after kicking him out of Kuwait. We took it thru the UN security council. I just wonder why the resident legal eagles(ie. "sea lawyers" ) don't ever mention that. The second thought was that he had nuclear weapons. If he didn't why didn't he let Scott Ritter and others look at what he had(yet another provision of the now forgotten Kuwait era UN agreement.) He had nothing to hide right? If he didn't mess with the inspectors every day as we saw on the 6pm news , I maintain he would still be in power.

I would maintain that some neighbor of his got one heck of a nice "gun collection" during the time we fiddled around prior to getting rid of him.

I'm not worried about your lady at work. I'm worried about 19 more people with a good plan based on long time observations of our habits.

19 more people who count on our hopeful optimism that everybody is here to enjoy freedom and hope their kids live a better life than they did. 19 more people with unlimited funding from far away. All the acceptance of others in the world will not dissuade them from their mission. No one can convince me that they are not already here and waiting for the word to act.

I lost two friends in 83' when the building I lived in during part of '82 came down one calm early Sunday morning. Heck, we rescued the PLO during the beginning of that operation. Maybe we should have let the Israeli's have free reign.

Merlyn I'm not talking about banning anyone. I'm just wondering if the Japanese were more angry with us during WW2 because we didn't try to understand and accept them more after attacking us on a calm Sunday morning. Maybe if we tried to understand their worship of the Emperor they would have left Wake alone. Even at 10 years old Merlyn you didn't believe in God, you're on the "Shiite" list too.

Lisa, McVeigh and Nichols killed fellow countrymen. Who cares what they think about that? Radical Muslims hate Britney Spears, women doctors, bikinis, Americans and Jews and Christians. I'm sure some very understanding , loving people were sitting at their desk at the WTC that morning. Their understanding and optimism couldn't save them.

Let's say that .05% of the Muslims in America will do us harm. .05% of 6 million people is alot more than 19.

Trouble is I to don't know how to sort the bad from the good either, that is another strength that they have along with a weakness we have.

  2. A recent poll showed about 40% of muslims in America believe that somebody(Mr. Bush, the owners, UFO's who ever...) blew up the WTC.

Let's assume the poll is non bias and true for the sake of the argument.

How do we attempt to reason with those folks?

What the heck are they doing living in a country that "eats it's young " by doing that? Isn't their "home " country better than that? Why wouldn't they go back there to live?

During WW2 good German people risked it all to hide folks from certain death. Why is it whenever a muslim religious person is asked about the WTC on the radio they say "America must change".

Shut your mouth or go back from whence you came. We've been changing our nation for 200 some years, there is a procedure in place. France moaned louder when McDonalds came to town, louder than we are now as 40% of 6-8 million people try to bring honor killings and stoning of rape victims into the American melting pot. We have pizza, St. Patricks day, apple kuchen, tacos, bagels, lo mein take out, and honor killing.

I agree we must change in many, many ways. But I'm not advocating the taking of life to do it.

  3. Stosh,

I do not question your service. Heck, there's a bunch of boys you could produce as witnesses if you needed.

Do you also have the Troop pay for your gas to Troop meetings?

    Dry Cleaning bills for uniforms.

You don't have the Troop pay for your sleeping bag and backpack just because they are used when you carry out your duties to the Troop.

I recently held an NRA rifle instructor course, not one attendee had their Troop pay the bill for the course.

If the CO paid that would be one thing. If the Scouts had to sell popcorn or candy bars for me to go that would be abhorent.

In rereading the original post, the unit could always loan the money to the new SM. The SM could pay it back during the time he worked his ticket. Over the course of a year it would be about $4 a week.

The SM could be just as proud as my son who paid about 70% of his camp fee this year. He is 12.

  4. I would beg to differ about the Pentegon Puke part.

He was the s-3 Ops "O" for 3/8 in 1979. Hardly a Beltway Bandit.

We will never know what really happened. I think he did what "Dutch" wanted him to do. Plain and simple.

Probably made him famous and alot richer than some no name Ret'd Lt. Col.

He took the fall for the President, calling him a patsy belittles the position he was in. I would not want to be the one standing with no chair when the music stopped, and he was.

  5. I am in agreement with FScouter and Scotteng

Folks, the CO does not owe your tuition to WB.

My CO was the Kiwanis(SP?). They pride themselves on buying school stuff for kids that can't afford it. They also help many other kids in our community.

$220 for WB will buy a lot of pencils and binders and paper for kids that might be lacking.

WB is for you. By the time you have completed everything snd figured out the hours you spent WB costs about a lot less than a buck an hour. The experience lasts a lifetime.

EK I think you have gotten good advice here. Let the CO know what you need. involve everyone that others spoke of. I don't see how the improved communication will fail.

  7. Twin Rivers Council also had a toad choker this weekend.

A group of old machinery folks came out to the fair grounds and showed the boys linotype machines and screw making machines and other belt driven devices. Being one of the cradles of the Industrial Rev. I wish folks had preserved more.

Troop invited an 87 yr young woman to lunch with us. It was great to see the young and old interact

  8. Yes,

We go to Wakpominee in Ft Ann NY

There are a couple different shower facilities and they have hot water.

The heads are still pit outhouses, with a couple porcelin (sp?) seats for "parents" day centrally located.

And yes there is a lake to swim in. It's a great place but I wish the canteen sold swimming goggles.

Firstly, they would make a million bucks

Second the Scouts would stop asking if they could borrow mine. I need them because I don't want to lose a cantact lens.

    R u listening Wakpominee?

  9. Troop calendar for balance of the nice weather/before back to School.

Can you share yours some we may rob each others ideas?

This moment some boys are in Washington DC for a 3 day weekend.

    May

    Spring camporee

    Memorial Day Parade

    June

    ww rafting and overnight

    Day long canoe trip

    .22 Metalic silhouette shoot

    July

Twin Rivers Scout Island Trip/Troop&Weebs Joint Camping Trip

    Wakpominee Summer Camp

    August

Long Lake to Raquette to Tupper Canoe Trip

    possiblities(not Sceduled)

    Patrol camping

    shoe box camp out

the map and compass campout where supplies are stationed in the woods and the boys find they food. Say for dinner----four points to find

Main meal-piled together steaks, hamburgers, bologna, spam.

other parts- fresh lettuce and salad fixin's,mac and cheese, ramen noodles, lima beans.

and so on-you get the idea

All the Patrols are given the maps for the location of each pile of food. If you are good and split your patrol into teams and get to the "goods" first then you get your choice. Can't do land nav to save your butt? Well I hope you like spam (I love spam) and lima beans.*

    * To the "Lima Beans are good food" Coalition and the Million Lima March in Washington group the answer is YES I am bigotted against Lima beans. I hate lima beans. I am not for equal rights with corn.

I will not fight to save the lima bean, nor will I donate money for lima bean habitat. I am also not in favor of using stem cells from peaches to help lima beans taste better. I hope the LIMA bean PAC does not help any candidate in the up coming election.

  10. Early Bird cost was $180 at our Council.

Troop paid $130/ Scout paid $50

Only three slots per Troop, had 4 desiring to go. Picked name from a hat, he is on stand-by.

Each Scout had to come and stand before the committee and tell why he wanted to go.

Some kids were nervous, but I hope that helps them deal with a job interview later in life.

One of the boys said to another, "I hope you get picked for this, my Dad is forcing me to go." Dad is on the committee and silently watched his son LIE to us about how bad he wanted to attend. Dad also sat silently after discussing that one boy would have to be dropped.

Dad is an Eagle Scout. Dad is not one of my favorite people, this event shows that when you've hit rock bottom on the integrity scale you can keep on diggin'

We've told them, " The inmates run this assylum" meaning we need to be boy lead. I hope sending these guys there gets us closer to boy led.

  11. Stosh

I don't know what your purpose was. I was trying to get the word out to as many folks as we could to remember the fallen warriors.

    Without a doubt I support:

    Your warrior.

    Those who are still deployed.

    Their mission.

The Commander in chief that sent them.

We have one Soldier depoyed currently, our other Soldier and our Marine are back at home. Our VA had better take excellent care of your Warrior.

I was in two small scraps and fortunate enough not to see the Hell these men are seeing.

    May God bless them all.

  12. If tomorrow some Scientist has the eureka moment and ALL scientists agreed on the fact the Earth was warming due to water vapor I would still want to be energy independent. I would still want the cleanest air possible to breath. I would still say Kyoto was a farce without #2 and #3 (soon to be #1 and #2 ) being regulated in the same fashion.

I'd still use the flourescent bulb because I'm cheap. Same with the air conditioning. I would still drive a hybrid if the ROE was 4 years instead of 10. Bring it on !!! I'll take it when it becomes available. Look at Walmart, all of America travels on the cheap. Get it to be cheaper you won't be able to make it fast enough. Till then John Kerry will have a suburban and Al will have air in his hot Tenn. house in August.

I wouldn't say SEEEEEE!!!! and then go pollute my butt off.

The level of the Ocean may go up 5". We have a tidal shift of 4 feet in my town, I think we can handle another 5 inches. They are scaring people into thinking the statue of liberty will be chin deep.

If the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs didn't foul the whole planet up permanently then I don't see how we can. All the humans might die but according to you evolution people, we'll be back in 400 million years anyways. Polar bears and penguins too!!!!

  13. The discussion has run it's course.

A couple of final thoughts from me and then maybe everyone can have a last whack at the burro full of candy hanging on a string.

What culture can possibly think it is ok to for a 17 year old boy and girl to make a child without being married?

The minute they invented WIC and all the other programs we all pay for it became MY business. Analogous(sp?) to all the war protesters holding up signs "Not in my name".

Wife and I waited until we thought we had enough money to support a child.

Every week Some Governmental entity TAKES money I would earmark for MY children and (in concert with others, YOU, and YOU in the back row, and all you in between) WE all give it to people who weren't careful with the "loaded weapons" they were using and now THEY are not responsible for their actions. In the depression days if you were on public assistance they would publish your name in the paper. Some thought it was a great day when they got their name off the list.

What the heck, it's public money, don't good gov't advocates want accountability?

    I maintain that:

This subject is a national problem. This leads to many other national problems because kids start off in a place that is sometimes already starting off on the wrong foot from day one.

No matter who will "Columbo" the answer it is in violation of some of the parts of the Scout law and oath.

As far as finding out or proof. We don't need DNA, PACK wants details, LISA wants to tell the SE,DE and COR, Trev made fun of the most immoral POTUS we've had in a while. I never asked how we would administer it because it's never going to happen. I asked because whatever we as a nation are doing now, it simply isn't working.

If you think it's wrong but wouldn't want to do anything about it are you apathetic? It's not wrong enough? Do you run from being judgemental? I maintain that when people were a little more judgemental we had a little more morals as a people.

As far as administering it, am I stupid enough to believe that if you suspected it you could simply ask the boy in the presence of his parent? Some of the "guilty" would say yes.

"But than we'd only catch the honest people!" Sometimes honesty brings with it a price to pay. Honest people already know that.

  14. Renewing the thread.

Memorial day is coming up and former Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts are still getting killed.

I think this is another way to honor them. I think their folks would be proud to know that the unit remembered them.

Hey Irving if you can read this how about a one or two page story. The readership of Scouter is alot more than here.

Been alot of talk about BOR's and changes to program.

I'd like for national to allow a board of review question that said, "there are 6 stars on our troop flag can you tell us why"

"Can you name who the stars are for."

  15. ooops I forgot.

Having squandered some of my youth in both Lebanon and Kuwait we need to be energy independent.

Go Nuclear. The French are adored by the liberal left. the French get 90% of their power from nukes.

Solve room temperature fusion, if possible.

Develop the best solar panels possible.

Make every new high rise built have a wind mill. Heck put a huge one on top of the WTC replacement.

Give tax incentives for retro solar and wind on residences. If I was guaranteed a 15 year payback and 16th year free heat and now air conditionig(it's FREE now) and renewable. I would take out a mortgage.

Dismantle the nuclear when we can. Or solve the waste issue. Yucca MT. is no real solution.

I laugh every time I hear DON"T BUY GAS ON MAY 15. how bright is that?

14th and 16th would be good selling days.

How about don't move you car during the weekend for a month. 8 days a month of no driving at all---only work and emergencies. Buy stuff during the week. Make the roads truly vacant for 8 days in 30. just to see what would happen

  16. This is a good topic.

They are scaring my son with this in school much the same way I was scared the Russians were going to blow us up and after seeing the now pronounced fake movie of Bigfoot I was scared of him too.

Well the world didn't blow up (though they could tomorrow) and Nobody has produced a Bigfoot.

If you leave the room you turn off the light.

All my life except in The 'Corps I have lived on a well and septic."Turn the water off"

Oil heat in Upstate NY ("shut the door"). And now that I pay for it we don't turn the heat on until November and off asap. When it's on ---it's 62 during waking hours and lower at night. "Put on a sweater"

Those new lightbulbs look good and burn less watts. When Home Cheapo started to carry them I got 'em about a year ago. After they warm up they work ok. I don't know who will take them when they burn out. They got Hg in them.

I do not have air conditioning because."We live on the only habitable planet there is, and we live in the Northern Hemisphere"(my daughter hates that) "We ain't getting air"

I was 9 the first time we had gas lines and read lot's of mother earth news. My father sold solar panels in the late 80's.

I've raised alot of money for Ducks Unlimited (about $75K) for preserving wetlands.

I lived that way because I'm cheap and and I think wetlands are important.

I first heard of the theory of global warming in 1975, in seventh grade. I thought in might be true.

I don't know what to think now except the weather is a little different. I can remember them forecasting an Ice Age when I was about 10 and reading it in the paper. The average temp difference during the ice age was about 10 degrees they say. But they also say it took a couple thousand years.

I know Al Gore has a bigger house than I do. Probably has air conditioning. Rides a private jet. There's air conditioning at Greenpeace offices in Washington DC

Why Al if you proposed carbon credits did you have anything to do with earning money from them. You should have been above reproach.

Heck even Darth Cheney was expected to completely divest of Halliburton (which he did) PRIOR to being the VP

I love to say to Bush haters, "I wish Bush had signed the Kyoto Treaty like India did and China did. They all agree. If you know anything ----you get the joke. Most don't get it.

I'm leaving my church because the last sermon I heard was all about how we are wrecking the planet. How can anybody with the faith enough to believe in heaven think that God will just let us fry here on Earth? Save my soul preacher, not the planet. You went to divinity or theology school---not global meteorology school.

I have a shack in the Adirondacks the whole place was devoid of a trees at the turn of the century. Now it looks like pristine woods. Whatever we do to the Earth isn't going to last more than 100 years and that's nothing in the life of the planet. Maybe nuclear waste will last a million but that's still about a month in the life of the planet.

A meteor struck the Earth and killed all the dinosaurs they say.

Well, she healed up pretty good after that.

I ask the boys what they think and then I tell them about the Adirondacks and the dinosaurs. I think we are scaring the heck out of people.

If you buy it whole hog then You go first, tear down your house, plant trees like pre Columbus. Don't eat anything that has to be trucked to you. Buy a horse or a bike. or just walk. If you get sick demand that no xrays be taken ----Uranium comes from a uranium mine that is in somebody's back yard.

Bumper stickers about global warming on the back of a running car are pure irony.

Never cross a brige because they are made of concrete and limestone quarries are in somebody's back yard.

If you buy it whole hog, walk the walk.

Am I better than everybody else because the air conditioning?--- heck no.

I am part of the problem, so is Al gore. So are you.

I sometimes wonder if I would have laughed at Noah.
