  1. Why thank you...a good complement is like music to my ears.
  2. Welcome from the other side of this great land.
  3. Welcome to scouting and this forum. Us life-long scouters are also looking for advice from you. You are the future of scouting and your dedication and willingness to work with the youth of America is a wonderful thing.
  4. Hey Micah, Our troop really enjoyed our stay at Powhatan a few years back. You and your staff do a great job in running one of the best camps in the country. Glad you have joined this forum.
  5. I move over on this ol' log...have a seat next to me. Welcome to the fire.
  6. Sandy, A big hearty welcome to you and your scoutin' family. And to think, your best scouting years are yet to come.
  7. OGE, Great job! Can't blame you at all for what you have expressed as your reasons, I would have grown weary long ago. Thank you for your service to this forum.
  8. You need to have a serious conversation with him about the language situation and let him know in no uncertain terms that he needs to watch his mouth. While boys may hear that kind of language at home, in school, on television, etc. - scouting is meant to be a place that is a cut above the norm where the behavior expectation is set at a higher level. If you deal with this seriously and with the tact and concern you demonstrate on this forum, he will understand and tone it down. I have a similar adult - likes to think he is 'one of the boys'. Tries to be fun-loving and a pal. One day, he thought it would be cute to 'moon' some campers. I drew some boundaries for him and things have been fine for the past several years. In these situations, its almost like dealing with a pre-adolescent boy. We need to remind them sometimes that they are now adults. Good luck.
  9. BSS - An 11-year old Eagle Scout? That is the absolute youngest I have ever heard of. You must be some kind of scouting fanatic. Congrats.
  10. Our troop has gone to amusement parks...lots of fun. No problems with tour permits. Some parks have scouting events, offering camping for the weekend and some behind the scenes exploration. Obviously, the buddy system must be strictly enforced with group check-in during the day (e.g., lunchtime). We generally make this a 'family outing' so plenty of parents and siblings join in. The more the merrier, and the more adults the better the supervision.
  11. I am sure Fred would never toot his own horn, so thanks for the note.
  12. ...participate in at least one Scouter Forum on any one of the following...the ethicality of following rules...allowing gays membership in the BSA...what is the meaning of 'actively participates'...the necessity for troop bylaws... Talk about fun and adventure...what more could a scout want.
  13. Certainly have the form updated annually. My advice...turn this over to the Committee Chair to chase down these forms. Scoutmasters have too much on their plate to be chasing after forms. Surely there is a tenacious adult that can shake these parents down.
  14. The QU award is not a farce, your District Executive is.
  15. You must be at Powhatan, which in my opinion has the best camp trading post in the country, rivaling many council scout shops. Keep those root beer floats flowing and the scouts will be ever happy.
  16. Let it go. The boy has been spoken to and has undoubtedly heard that stealing is not appropriate scout behavior.
  17. The whole Webelos II to First Year Scout transition can be a difficult process for many boys and their parents, and yet, it really is the critical link to establish continued participation in the scouting program. Thanks for the reminder and congrats on your program.
  18. Chili today...hot tamale. Welcome. Look forward to hearing more from you.
  19. Welcome. A well-prepared SPL has the confidence to lead. Help him thoroughly prepare in advance (detailed meeting plans, PLC agendas, etc.) and his take-chargedness will surely grow.
  20. Keep talkin...I'm all ears. Welcome to the campfire that never burns down.
  21. Sounds like you are the Cubmaster your pack needs. Have fun. Scouting is a blast.
  22. And just think, the next four years will only get better. Welcome and congratulations on your recognition.
  23. Welcome Davy. Stop by often. This forum has much to offer.
  24. A true-green scouter...I can picture you in your worn uniform on top of a John Deere. Welcome.
  25. Just like your pack, all we require on this forum is that you jump right in. Welcome.
