  1. Scouters, I'm looking for a PDF I can print out to use showing the layout or a copy of the Patrol Log Book. I need one for his weekends Boy Leadership Training. I'm re-strating this training and the use of the Log Book after many many years of not being done and used.

    Thanks in advance,

  2. I also need to thank everyone. I want to start a Crew here in Geneva. Need a head start on information, and how to sell it. I think th einterest is there among the youth, it's just the adults that might be the problem. The adults that do help are already maxed out on helping..

  3. Have to agree there, having everyone WB'd means everyone on the same page. And from my experience that means a lot towards the success of the troop being boy lead.

Strange that I'm still getting the jib from this forum that so many who haven't taken WB and don't want too make such a big deal out of it. I liked the course, and think it a great way for a leader to go. One can always lead something new. I spent 10 years leading soldiers in the Army, and the past 15 training and leading people in business, and I learned loads there.

Congrates on your beading.. I hope to have all of my tickets finished early next year. One of mine will take the longest, the other 4 will be finished by Christmas of this year..

  4. I had my boys show up for the trip to Summer Camp in full uniform this year, mainly to make sure that all fo them brought it. I have a few who don't like wearing the uniform, and they will do anything to take the chance not to wear it..

  5. I totally agree. There needs to be something done about this. Leaders are leading troop, dens, crews without the outdoor skills. And boys are becoming Eagles without the outdoor skills. Thats another reason why I'm developing an outdoor course for my local area. It's not one of my tickets, but it needs to be done. On IOLS, there is so much information to be touched on, that nothing becomes ingrained. That's another reason why we have stronger outdoor leaders helping to teach others the skills.

  6. IOLS is only a three day course. It's not enough time for a Cub Leader to really learn those skills.

I attended IOLS, but it's not a requirement for everyone to take WB. In fact only the SM/ASM are required to do it. Most councils will wave this course to get bodies into the course.

I was thinking of a longer two weekend version of this course. to slow down, and walk everyone through the basics.

  7. @Kudu.. ???

Sadly I have met a lot of former Eagle Scouts knowing nothing of the outdoors? In fact most of the worst Scout Adult Leaders I've met were Eagle Scouts. Doesn't mean that they are all bad, but I haven't met many good ones with the basic scouting skills I expected them to have. I think that there should be a Scouter's Skills course. Many leaders are missing the basic skills needed. In fact there should be more training on training the boys even.

  8. Thanks for the info.

OK Since I'm the Troop ASM and my son is a Scout what does this mean.. although I don't count anything we do away from the troop. I've of others who have.. That's why we have to have two leaders and at least two scouts "YP" to do anything scout related in our troop.

  9. Basmentdweller, I too love the outdoors and camping. I just don't think that WB could have taught me more then I already know about it. Now days with the LNT, we can't do many of the things in the woods we used to be able to do. But I still get out there on my own, and train, and learn. I would have prefered to have done more Scoutmaster training. Training my Boys etc.. but what I got from the course works for me. One of my Patrol members also thinks that the Course was useless. It's talked about like the "creme de la creme" of Scouting Courses, but compared to him and my past military training it seemed not like that. I have to agree. but it is what it is. It's a Boy Scout course. It's never been the course that makes leaders, or something elite that many wearing it or not thinks it should be. I feel that much of the argument on here is from people who are unhappy with having to do it over again or people who don't want to do the course. I also am working on my tickets..

  10. Why do I get the feeling that most on here who don't like the WB21 either did the old course, or haven't done any courses yet. Speaking of Egos that is..

I'm sure that someone up top made this call a long time ago for a reason.. I've been involved with lots of stuff outside of Scouting and inside. But most change I've seen has been for the best. When it comes to those out door skills. I also feel it my responsibility to help train those adults who also need help in the outdoors, and other things.. I have been training people, and teaching leadership for most of my adult life. I found the course to be an eye opener. and a good one at that. We had plenty of Cub Leaders on our course who knew nothing about the outdoors..Is this the BSA's fault? or WB's fault.. I don't think so..

  11. Guys, great thread. I just got back from WB, and am working on my Tickets. I didn't go there for the beads, not the scarf. I went there to learn more to help my boys, and my troop. It was a great experience that I would love to do again. In fact we had one Staff member who had taken the WB Course twice. He did the old course, and then the new course, had two Critters, and came out twice for the" Back to Gilwell" "Owl" & "Fox". Song.. Anyway, I think there are always those uniform junkies out there wanting to run around looking like Generals.. In fact I see them mostly at the council level, not so much at the Troop level. Not to say that earning all of those awards aren't worth wild, or great for Scouting. But it can be a bit strange for those of us who are from Districts that don't award adults all of the time. In fact I've been an ASM for 3 years and don't have any knots yet?? Anyway, I love what I had the chance to learn at Wood Badge, the people I met, and the great time I had. I can't wait to have a chance to Staff WB one day. Get to do it all over again. In fact I've already been told it will happen. But first, I have top finish my Tickets. Which are all about making my Troop better.. and helping my boys grow and learn.. which is what I join the Scout for in the first place..

  12. Well, when it comes to leading, I didn't get that much from it. I've been leading, and training people to lead for over 20 years. Military service and in business. But I did get to know my Council better. I hadn't really known the people funning it before, nor the major players in it. I was in my class with not only my DE, but several DEs from within the Trans Atlantic Council "TAC". The TAC Executive was there, and he , due to the original guy getting deployed to Iraq, ran the Camp Alpine Summer camp. I had no idea he was the head guy here until Wood Badge when he showed up to speak to us the first day. I got to see how my Council works, and just how great many of the people in it are. How well the Support his, and how much we do with less Money then the Councils in the States run their programs. I think that those of you who think you'd get nothing out of Wood Badge would be surprised, or your too stuck in your boxes to think outside of it. I think that why TAC does so well, due to the fact that there is a heavy military community involved. And thinking outside of the Box is what we have to do. And in Wood BAdge, they said the same thing so the civies in TAC could understand. I have never served in the US BSA except when I was a boy, but as an adult I can say that serving over here is a great experience. We have only around 6000 Scouts in TAC, and they are spread out ALL over Europe. Along with Lone Scouts due to some distances. But with less money TAC gets it done. I had know idea of this until Wood BAdge. I know have other Troops to go on mini camporees with from all over Europe. So I got loads out of Wood Badge, and those of you who think you can't learn from WB needs to try it..
