  1. Well, just passing along some information I got.. I wasn't there, but like I said I spoke to a couple of Staff members who were there.. Any How, The idea of Scouts and Scouter booing anyone is in bad taste and breaks the Law of the Scout. I hope that some of these words are getting filtered down to those who did this, and I hope they can see some light. I didn't vote for the man, and I don't like him as a president, but I'd never boo him.. nor any other person. And from another thread where I read a parent decided to wait to turn in his son's Eagle Project so as to get this President's signature instead of the last one is also wrong, and should be ashamed of himself. Scouting is no place for politics, and those who wish to play the political game should maybe think about getting involved in something else.. not scouting..

Just my 2 cents.. but a hard earned 2 cents..

  2. I did take everyones advice.. i brought two chairs etc.. I would like to add to the list, and this is only if our going to the week long course. But bring cokes.. I needed a lot of extra energy on the course.. also bring a camp stove. all of our cooking was done over a fire. but somethings worked better over a stove. Also bring plenty of craft stuff. I would even suggest to find some good dry long logs about 3-4 inches in diameter. and lots of rope and para cord. a Wood working kit, and even something you can maybe burn the wood for effect. Bring extra activity shirts, and plenty of socks. A good brimmed hat for the rain, and a good rain jacket. I also did a bit of trading with my Parol members, so I brought extra patches and neckers. good camp shoes. Although the walking staff looks kool, I suggest you leave it at the house. The staff have the time to carry theres, but were always seems to have our hands full. Also bring a coffee mug, in metal, plastic, or wood. and add a lanyard to carry it on your belt. Extra pens and pencils, and a good compact but with lots of paper, note book. And don't forget your day pack, I had mine with me at all times..

If I remember anything else, I let you know.

  3. I just got back this weekend from a week long Wood Badge course here in The Trans Atlantic Council, "TAC". Was a great course which really helped me on what I needed help on. The outdoor skills I already had, so spending the week doing it this was was better for ME. I would recommend this course to any one. Was well done, and presented. I feel a bit like they squeezed 10 days into a 7 day course though. And I would have loved to have had the chance to have done more camp projects, but we did all right. We were in a camp setting all week. With access to showers and QM cooked food. I spoke to some of the older staff, my SM, about the older courses which he has a full collection of every TAC class from the beginning to now, 60 years of WB Pictures, patches, projects, etc... He did tell me that the older course was different, but not better. He made me feel like the course has changed a bit with the times, and that with change we all have to keep up to date. And now the course is more in line with the other course programs the boys get. And in the end, this is all about the boys..

  4. Well, just got back home last night late. Was a great week, but a long one. Seemed like we were there for two weeks. But again a great time. Seems that after that week, I am ready for anything. Loads of information passed around, but sadly National will not allow the Staff to give out this information. Found out that not many Councils hold the course for a week straight, man that weekend way of doing it sure makes a difference in the experience. Having that break in the middle means more time to work on Tickets, and Patrol Projects. Our course was held outdoors, we sleep in Tents for the week, and had class room time for the Power Point classes, and films. Met a lot of great people. Got to launch a rocket for the first time. Was a great week..

  5. Hey Everyone, I just got back from Wood Badge and spoke about this to two people from my Patrol who just got back from Staffing National Jambo. I was told by both that the scout weren't boooing the President, but something else. This something slips my mind for the moment, but it has something to do with the organizers or something. It was explained to me.. but WB took a lot out of me..

  6. Firstly, welcome Scouteralpsteg. Iam at this time currently attending wood Badge this very week. Although today was just day 2. We have covered much and have experienced much of what you are saying. Here the staff are covering the syllabus 100%. and I know this because they have stressed the point. I love what I have done so far with so many lesions learned and seeing the lengths the staff and course have done to help us to see ourselves in the mirror. And on top of this it has given all of us, cubs, scouts & venturers leader a much better under standing of each other. In fact there is not only a good balance of each group rep. In students but also staffers. Maybe TAC is more in line with what is going on???? Not sure, but there seems to be a lot of anti- change people out there or just plain ignorant and lack of outside of the box thinkers????

  7. To add my two cents I'd first like to say that there should be no place for politics in Scouting. I think that there is too much to learn and do then to waist it studding the parties.. those days will come soon enough for the boys. Although I didn't agree with what the Democratic party, the ACLU, and the Office of the President have been doing in reference to the BSA. I also don't agree with Adults openly specking ill of the Office of the President. I read Gov. Perry's book and found it a great read, and very informative about the political side of Scouting. And what groups like the ACLU, and many in the Political arena have been doing against the BSA. But at the same time there are many high up people who were Scouts and have earned the Eagle Rank who have shown how truly humble and great the BSA movement can be and is. Sec. Gates is a great example of just this. Like Sex, I feel that Politics should be left out of Scouting. I do agree with showing boys the way and the reasons why they should seek responsibilities in any future leadership weather it be in government, the military, sports, scouting or their community. Sure they listen to their parents, but I am not a member of the same political party as my parents. Nor have I ever voted the same way they do. Weather the President showed up or not isn't as important as the movement of the BSA. Weather he decided not to come due to politics or whatever, doesn't change the fact that he can only hurt himself amongst people for his decisions, not hurt the movement. I am more worried about other elements attacking the BSA. And those who think that the BSA should change when it comes to girls, gays, or whatever should leave if they don't like it. I spent 10 years of my life serving in the US Army, I used to do whatever was asked of me back then, now I can decide for myself. I don't like something, I don't do it. I've only been a part of the BSA for a total of 5 years. So I am new to the BSA, but I am not new to serving, and working with people. I remember when Clinton was President. Most of us serving didn't like his leadership, but we still got up every day and served. We still trained, and risked our lives daily. We were still Americans, Brothers in Arms. When Gore came to Bragg after the Operation Valient Dragon (Invasion of Haiti) we were there to great him. He called out all of the different units involved and who were there that day, but he forgot one, Ours. We booed him. And he deserved it, But he was the VP, and although we booed him for a mistake, we would have gladly gotten back on planes to jump into Haiti if he told us too. Point I'm making is Adults do your jobs, and help boys become men, and boys do your jobs, and grow into goo men. Forget the Politics, and forget what you can do nothing much about. If you don't like who's at the top, then make a difference when you vote. Not at Jambo.. there you should be having fun...
