  1. Just a point. NPR does get some gov. funding but most of it comes from the stations which are viewer supported. I send money to my local one, I don't always agree with them but the voice must be heard. When our local station was told the state would not support it for political reasons, their fund raiser was swift and over the top in money raised.
  2. They are still there. My son and a friend are planning the troops skit for summer camp now. They are rewriting a Monty Python Skit. Last year it was a bunch of shorts about throwing a case. We have had other troops do some very funny original stuff.
  3. You register at your local board of elections, town hall or city hall. In our city its the City Clerk at City Hall. I second the point on everyone should register. We need a 60 - 70% turnout of all Eligible voters.
  4. Its interesting that if the same negative advertising tactics were used for products the companies would be up on charges of consumer fraud. Too bad we can't charge the politicians with the same crime.
  5. I was just wondering; If I understand this ruling there can be no public private partnership if the private side is religious. How would that affect communities with city owned cemeteries? Many cities have agreements with the members of the various religious groups that use the cemetery. I am sure some have discriminatory rules that dont allow atheists gays or members of other religions. What would happen if these agreements are ruled unconstitutional? Do they have to dig up the bodies? I am no Lawyer does anyone know if this would be true. The point I am making is that the rulin
  6. www.t12.ma.bsatroops.org All done with ms frontpage.
  7. I vote they go away too. I think they distract from what is being said. Since they first started I have found myself posting less.
  8. Proud Eagle Good points. I am waiting for the Hydrogen fuel cell to come on line. Think of a system where the gas is produced from solar or wind power and runs your car or heats your house. A non-polluting renewable power source.
  9. Dear Lord, Every single evening As I'm lying here in bed, This tiny little Prayer Keeps running through my head. God bless all my family Wherever they may be, Keep them warm and safe from harm For they're so close to me. And God, there is one more thing I wish that you could do, Hope you don't mind me asking Please bless my computer too. Now I know that it's unusual To Bless a motherboard, But listen just a second
  10. Here is an interesting what if. Recently the Boy Scouts have been called a religion and Catholic Charities are not a religion, with this as a reference, could Atheism then be called a religion and the laws would then have to be neutral on this subject in order not to discriminate?
  11. You forgot Harry Potter. Anyone who writes an 800+ page book and has boys and girls standing in line to buy and read it, has to be good. All of the boys in my troop have read them and are eager for more.
  12. Laurie You read it right. My understanding of their program is that you can give or not give to whomever on the list you want. Thats why I don't understand the states position. It is not their money. If there is a group on that list I like I will give if not I would not. It is the givers call no one elses. To remove the Boy Scouts from the list appears to be against Diversity. But at this point I would just give to who I choose to directly.
  13. Though I disagree with the decision, I would not, if I were a CT state worker, not give to their program. I would give directly to BSA, which I do. I would not cry and go to court about how mean everyone is I would just deal with it. What I do not like is the zero sum game going on. This is a battle between civil liberties and civil rights. The common word is Civil which is not common in todays discourse. When will both sides be respectful of everyones point of view. I see Scouts being respectful but not the other groups.
  14. NJ Your comments about the San Diego case begs the question. Should all civil rights laws be rewritten so as to clearly define civil liberties vs civil rights. The courts will get involved and when you ask the question the answer may not be what you want. The new Boy Scout Law page has a link to a video cast about this question and the panel could not make up their minds either
  15. NJ Sorry this reply took so long. Your concerns are noted, however how do we give Gov. what it needs for our security and protect ourselves from abuse. Which does happen. I dont know the answer except to look at each case by it self. As I stated in another thread, both sides of the political spectrum are capable of misuse of power be it through political correctness or Government action. Look at the latest comments in the news on radio content. As a wise man stated many years ago The price of liberty is vigilance I would add not Vigilantism.
  16. Here is another Thank You for the heads up. Let me add if you are getting close to 50 get your self checked (guys and gals here) for Colon cancer. I lost two good friends and my Mother in law to this. It is not pretty but can be cured if caught early. The tests are not fun but necessary.
  17. NJ I must to agree with you. I will add that the general tone of politics lately has gotten very coarse. All sides have made some very nasty remarks. The advance of political correctness has been described by some people as Fascist. The other side shouts back raciest. In both cases they bring disrepute upon the causes they represent. I think both sides need to get away from this Take no prisoners attitude. We have real terrorists to fight.
  18. Laurie You hit the point. I started teaching responsibility to my son as soon as soon as I could. Simple things, at dinner, child askes for water from the kitchen, they get it them selves, forgot somthing at school they hopped on the bike and went for it. You set standards and stick to them.
  19. Here is my take on this. You can collect all the info you want but how it is used is the issue. If any information is collected improperly a judge will exclude it from trial so it can't be used. An example; I am an Amateur Radio Operator I can listen in on all kinds of things but if I act on it I can be in big trouble. I beleive this is the check. A small one maybe but a check non the less.
  20. Third of all, you have the same right to sue, or to find other people to sue, that the ACLU has. There are groups on the other side of the political spectrum who do just that. Is this a great country, or what? I disagree with this. It is only true if you have the money to sue. Too many times the ACLU has sued and won because no money was available to fight it. This follows the golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules.
  21. I tell my son and the scouts 'Don't carry a grudge their heavy'.
  22. It looks like Amazon has sold out of 'Follow me boys' They list sales rank in the mid 40s and a special order. I get the feeling no one thought the sales would be this good. I preordered mine and it has not been shipped, my guess it is waiting for the next shipment. It would be great if this movie could break some records.
  23. In the real world people are advanced on merit. If not then it is preference not related to how good you are. Remember the I have a dream speech. 'Content of... ' If our society does not promote the best others will pass us by. Can you speek Chinese, or French or German or... You had better. Parents must help their children be the best they can be and be ready for life. (Sounds like Scouting?) If kids are getting picked on for not doing well help them, don't bring down the rest to their level. Ill get off my soap box. sorry for the rant you may now resume the discussion
