  1. Here is a site that have "Vegan" ones (One that is made out of plastic, not natural one) http://tinyurl.com/32xdye
  2. What a long thread. I have a question that I have been thinking about: Does your SPL attend your Troop Committee meetings?
  3. OK, but could someone tell/show me where it is written down? Thanks OGO
  4. Actually, the title should read"Climbing ON Pioneering project Towers". (Just wanted to clarify that. on edit). What are your views for Scouts climbing on their Pioneering projects, ie, the signal tower located in the Pioneering Merit Badge book? (This message has been edited by OldGrayOwl)
  5. Lot''s of good ideas here. That is what I like about this site. This is just another bump. No sense in posting another question. edited for spelling(This message has been edited by OldGrayOwl)
  6. SR540Beaver How did it turn out? (Yes, I know that it is an old posting, but one that needs to be brought up out of the campfire ashes)
  7. Our Troop allows the SPL and ASPL''s carry cell phones, since they are leaders as well.
  8. What would you say are the Adult Leader (SM, ASM, CC, COR, CM) roles/responsibilities in the Troop? We were having a discussion at a committee meeting the other night and I was just wondering how the roles are defined.
  9. I showed a copy of the schedule (http://www.yaac-bsa.org/safari/schedule.htm ) to some of the parents and they were concerned that the boys won''t be able to have enough time to see other exhibits in camp. I will explained to the parents that the scouts WILL have time to do a lot of things.
  10. Another thing that I have given to members of my patrol, as they get beaded, is an Owl Knife, http://tinyurl.com/2e9s36 , as most Scouters use knives, I figured that this would be a nice gift. John
  11. Thank you, Venividi. That is exactly the reasoning the PLC had behind the idea.
  12. Nope. Not it at all. The troop (PLC + patrols) do NOT want to have troop cooking, they like patrol cooking, they want to see how well they can come up with different methods for preparing the same food, and YES, the PLC and the patrols do understand the patrol method as well as the adults. If you let them run with an idea, even though you know it isn''t a good one, how can you get them to learn. I know, just have ...... come along and teach them how to spell exicute, as well as his idea of the patrol method. How does this idea conflict with the Basic principals of Scouting? Isn''t
  13. Of course, if you don''t mind traveling, to New Hampshire, here is a camp that is a bit closer: http://www.rtcbsa.org/ and check out Cedarlands Scout Reservation
  14. Nope, They just want to try something different. They have been acting as "normal" patrols all along, they just want to see how many different ways that work for cooking different meals. Like local1400 stated, a competition between patrols, after the winning meal recipies wii be posted on our troop website. They just got tired of Ramon noodles and cold cereal. I guess that some people just can''t fathom having a Scout run troop.
  15. Yes, they shall. They are also going to be cooking as well (adults REALLY like to eat )
  16. Our PLC came up with an idea for menu planning. The troop would plan the menu for the next campout, making sure that it is a balanced menu. It would be up to the patrols to get the food for their patrols and prepare however they want to, but they have to use the ingredients that the Troop planned for. What do you think?
  17. Have you tried to "wow" your Scouts by boiling water in a paper (not plastic) cup on on open fire? Cured Ham cooked in a melon...now THAT is something to try.
  18. The only thing that I would add to jblake47''s honor patrol is being at least an OA member. After all, they are the "honor society" of Boy Scouts.
  19. My council is having a big activity soon (it involves 2 councils) A few parents in the troop are concerned that the boys, (I like to use the word "Scouts"), won''t have enough time to enjoy themselves during the weekend event and they (the parents) want the troop committee to do the cooking for them (the boys), so they (the boys)won''t have to worry about cooking and cleaning, etc. The troop uses the patrol method on all of our other activties throught the year, this event only happens every four years. What do you think? The parents are a mix of both new parents to the Scouting
  20. How about an "unplanned" quick swim at a local pool, after work at on a service project was completed? Do you think a LTP is required then?
  21. I just started reading a book I found in my troop's library: "A Boy Scout's Discovery" by George Durston.
  22. Yeppers, Ya meant me. (I guess being old and gray and some sort of bird tends to confuse people) He was the water front director, and NO, he wasn't gone the next week.
  23. On a campout with the Trop...How do you handle the beer with National's "no alcohol" policy? Do you use non-alcoholic beer? Sounds yummy anyway
  24. All of that sounds really fine... NOW How many of these foods do you bring on camping trips?
