  1. As someone who does software QA for a living (Including work with public facing websites) There's NO WAY I would have signed off on this to be released as it is, with so many broken links, etc.
  2. Has anyone seen a generic version of the Kids switchbacks in blue for the cubs? I'd be interested in getting some for my son, but not at the prices the scout shop charges.
  3. I know DL and ADL, but what is an MC?
  4. One of the local Packs has a policy that a a parent from each family has to volunteer for either a leadership position within the Pack (CM, ACM, L, ADL, etc...) or volunteer to plan and execute one of the events for the pack over the course of the year. (They have a list of the events) Has anyone else seen a policy like that in action? How well was it received by the families? How did it relly impact family involvement, long term?
  5. TLA - Three Letter Acronymn ETLA - Extended Three Letter Acronymn, (i.e. a four letter acronymn) Those might just be inside jokes in the district.
  6. You mentioned that several of the parents in the den were already highly involved as volunteers... Have you considered splitting the den so that more boys could be added to each of the two dens? Get the Asst. DL setup as a new DL, and have 2 of the parents step up as new Assistants.
  7. Arrowhead, sadlye won't be going to the race. even thought you can see the speedway from where we meet, our pack failed to get the paperwork turned in in time. I'm holding out for a stock car racing Belt loop from national though. Eagle92, thanks for the advice. thats the sort of thing I was looking for.
  8. I'm in a very new pack, and uniforms are treated very casually, with several of the DLs not even owning a uniform. I know there are a lot of benefits to wearing the uniforms, not least of which is being more of an authority figure to the cubs, and setting a good example. I'd like to encourage the other leaders to improve in this area, but i don't want to preach at them or just pint at the guidebook and say "You have to do it because that's the rule!". Does anyone have anything I could use to help demonstrate that leaders wearing uniforms helps make the scouting experience bette
  9. I'm wondering if there could be any area that currently already supports seasonal events. For example, I live in Concord NC, and the local Speedway has major events 2x/year, where the population of the town doubles, each race week. If an area could be found that supports this sort of seasonal event, already, it might be more amenable to the idea of a permanent Jamboree home. (Not suggesting Concord NC, merely saying a place w/ that kind of seasonal event schedule.)
  10. Low cost child care. (Just kidding!!)
  11. I think that was a joke, just saying that Orkin's uniforms look so similar to the BSA ones.
  12. I'm in a new pack that doesn't currently use den Flags/doodles, and I'm wanting to introduce them to build up some "Den pride". Anyone have any good links to ideas that have worked for other dens? What I'm thinking of doing is combining the two. Basically, a blue felt background, and have each boy cut out and decorate a yellow felt hand, and put it on the flag. Along with that, have wooden rods at the top and bottom of the flag (So it hangs mroe like a scroll), and fasten the beads, etc. for each boy to the bottom rod. Anyone have experience with something like this, or any oth
  13. When picking up my uniform at a local scout shop just a few weeksago, they told me that the new rulefor CS leaders is Green on tan numbers. Was that right?
  14. Most of the packs in this area do all of their training via athe annual cub Roundup for 1st Graders. We are a new pack, still trying to figure this out, and establish ourself. But it seems like if we only recruit tigers, as they get older, the dens will get smaller and smaller each year, as one or two kids leave each year. Do any of your packs actively recruit older kids? Do you do your recruiting at other times of the year? I've heard of some spring recruiting drives at the end of the school year that work well for packs that are active over the summer. (Even if they don't hav
  15. I'm in a new pack, that is only a few years old. I've volunteered to be a Wolf DL next year, and I'm trying to figure out what I need to know. The existing adult leadership in the pack is all great people, but there's been some serious communications problems, and I'm trying to make sure I start the wolves out right. I'd like to be fully up to speed before the year starts next school year, rather than learning on the job. I've taken the Online basic training for wolf DLs, and the youth protection course, and I am trying to find out where i can take the other (face to face) part of the tra
