Ask Andy did a piece on this awhile back, he entitled it "The Bridge to Nowhere". If a Cub is not joining a Boy Scout troop, there is no point in participating in the bridging ceremony.

Interesting stories. The bottom line is, if somebody takes the time to nominate you for an award, you should at least have the decency to wear it, if nothing else to honor the person who thought enough to nominate you.

I have experienced better wear out of the older styles of pants. I still manage to wear out pants much more quickly than shirts. I don't think I have ever worn out a shirt.

As far as I am aware of, all knots are achievement based. Even the James West knot. It was designed so that individuals could be honored by their units when they didn't qualify for any other award. (Of course, some people make the donation themselves)

I agree that beading ceremonies should be for the benfit of the Woodbadgers. Making Cub Scouts and their families sit through 40 minutes of that is just plain wrong.

Many boys at beginning scouting age are not muscularly developed enough to do a complete ull-up. Have them practice by doing modified pullups, and judge their improvement on that.

I think the policy of letting each chartering organization decide for itself is the best compromise solution in this instance.

I've never tried the magnet idea, but I think an embroidered idea is great.

When my son was awarded the Bronze Hornaday medal, he had the local county person in charge of all the forest preserves act as his councelor. Try checking with your counties forest preserve district about the name of a conservation officer to contact.

I am a ADC, I have a Venturing shirt that I wear. I personally think that the grey shoulder loops look better with the Venturing shirt than the tan shirt.

Definately, if the recognition encourages some leaders to stay involved, great. But even more important to me, if you look at the requirements for the awards, any leader fulfilling those requirements will be doing a pretty good job of running his or her aspect of the program. It provides a good road map, so to speak.

Yes, as long as all requirements, including the scoutmaster conference have been completed, the signatures can be obtained and the application turned in. It would look better if all was turned in before the 18th birthday, leaving just the EBOR to be completed.

Probably a sad statement about parents who have had it with kids who keep getting into trouble. Hopefully scouts can keep the kids from getting to that point in the first place.
