Eagle Project to trap Birds of Prey

Recommended Posts

There's is an Eagle Scout project which places Goshawk traps around LAX airport in order to reduce bird collisions with aircraft. The trapped birds (hawks, owls) are then tagged and relocated.

The scouts will assist the airport with the implementation of live traps for its wildlife mitigation program, according to an LAX statement.

The program includes habitat modification by eliminating wildlife-attracting vegetation and maintaining specified mowing heights for weeds. Birds hoping to frequent LAX will also be confronted with fencing and noise repellants, such as sound cannons and sirens.

No word as to who handles baiting the trap (I think live pigeons are used). Interesting project.

Another interesting Eagle project - Eagle Scouts builds archery range in town park.

“I made up my own design,†Magle said. “I used ideas from previous use of other ranges, but I made it my own.â€Â

Magle, family, friends and individuals involved in Boy Scouts helped Magle construct the archery range, accumulating more than 151 hours of combined work.

The range has three lanes with targets set at different distances. It is open for public use. There are plans for Algoma High School and the Parks and Recreation Department to host classes at the range in the future.
