Hey, and it's not even April yet!

 

However, contrary to what was mentioned by BSA, it seems the end date for earning these is still 12/31/10.

I predict that very few signaling mb's will be earned.

I agree, very few signaling MB's will be earned. I think this badge was retired because very small number of scouts earned it in the years before it was pulled.

That was the reason, I remember reading it in Boy's Life (I was a scout when they pulled it).

I'm not sure why the carpentry merit badge was ever discontinued. Carpentry teaches practical building skills that are useful for a lifetime. This is one I would encourage the Scouts to take this year.

I just did some reading about 'Signaling' merit badge and I really like it. Too bad it wasn't around when I was coming through. It reminded me of a really fun, classic old movie, 'Independence Day' in which the International Code was being used to communicate between pockets of human resistance to the alien invasion. Sometimes it is good to know low tech solutions. I might just have to learn that code anyway.

Having been a youth member under requirements that included specific signalling events to reach first class, I for one am delighted the MB went away, and especially went away from the Eagle List.
