  1. Owl- Used my Hennesy hammock for the first time a couple weeks ago at our Troops Campout. Very comfortable! A lot better than pad on the ground! Only problem I had was the thing sagging down after an hour in it (stretching); just had to tighten the ropes some. Will be using it again here in 2 weeks at out Fall CAmp-o-ree.
  2. We took our two Webelos Dens to the District camporee last fall. CAmped next to our troop, but did our own cooking etc. The kids participated in all the activities, beating the Scouts in some areas! Their biggest hrill was when they were asked to come forward at the campfire to be recgonized; some proud Guys! (and so were the parents and Den Leaders.) Now all are Scouts, been to summer camp (and other campouts) Most are Second Class, getting close to First. I know I'm an ASM to all in the Troop, but feel closer to the Scouts I was involved in Cubs with!
  3. I think a lot of the "easier" requirements are due to the lack of exposure to firearms now a days. Went I was a Scout, I'd bring my 22 to School with me on the bus and shoot after school. Try that today! I taught Rilfe MB at camp this summer. 96 scouts, 89 qualified. Many never handled a gun before (made for an interesting first day!), couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside, yet most showed great improvment by the end of the week. Sad thing is, for a lot of these Scouts, this will be the last time they will have an oppurtunity to shoot...
  4. Actually, it's been out for 3-4 months now! Almost worn out my DVD already! Wal Mart has it..
  5. ....when he finally gets the task/job right! Helped run the rifle range at summer camp this year. Had boys who had never shot anything before. First round , all over the target (if they even hit it!) The smile on his face when he brought back the qualifying target is payment enough. Had a young lad who was very hard on himself; got him finally shooting a group and although he didn't qualify for the merit badge he was happyier. Saw him at the campfire last night at camp. I was sitting on the end of the aisle, saw him climbing the steps. He saw me, BIG smile and a High Five w
  6. Only met the rep for my troop a month ago at the Ordeal weekend; sad thing is he's a member of my troop, but never see him at meetings! Seems to be a definate lack of communications in my lodge....
  7. wojauwe- That's why I had "Rank" in quotes! Sometimes me feeble brain can't think of the right wording! YIS!
  8. Fuzzy- I believe you we're being sarcastic, but just in case... I don't think you can earn a Higher "Rank" in the OA without serving at a Lower "Rank", ie, if you are a Brotherhood member, it would be assumed you were once an Ordeal. Be like if I wore all my stripes from E-1 to E-6 at the same time when I was in the USAF!
  9. Straight from G2SS: Fireworks The Boy Scouts of America prohibits the securing, use, and display of fireworks in conjunction with programs and activities except where the fireworks display is conducted under the auspices of a certified or licensed fireworks control expert. Local councils may not authorize any group or chartered unit activity for or on behalf of its members, units, or district to sell fireworks as a fund-raising or money-earning activity.
  10. Who's grown up? I have as much fun (or more!) than the Scouts!
  11. Deep down does it matter? A salute or any kind, proudly rendered, is better than no salute! How many times have you seen the the disrepect shown at public occasions when the National Anthem is played?
  12. Ditto again! Ordeal in '66 and Brotherhood in '67. Just joined the local lodge after a LOOOOONG hiatus-no problems! As said, "A Scout is Trustworthy"!
  13. Ordeal in '66, Brotherhood in '67, Nanook Lodge, Wastern Alaska Council. Just getting back active, Echeeoconee Lodge, Central Georgia COuncil. Buisness partner and his son were tapped , err, called out, doing their Ordeal this weekend. Will be proudly awaiting them at the fire at the finish!
  14. Used to be a Beaver! Just finished the "Book" part of the course a week or so ago (SR-542) Working my ticket! BTB! First post here -looks to be good folks!(This message has been edited by Aardvark)
