  1. I don't know much about the lion. Here is a link to a council that has it. The 2nd link has a bit more info. http://www.northernstarbsa.org/youthprograms/cubscouts/lioncubs.aspx http://www.northernstarbsa.org/Forms/Membership/LionCubsProgramFall%202012Info.pdf
  2. I always thought there was a rule against donating directly to the unit. The boys had to do "something" to earn it. Unit money can come from dues, fund raising or the charter organization but not outright donations. Donations must go up to the council. I know that we would turn down donations at my previous unit or arrange a service project for them prior to accepting the donation. http://www.scouting.org/About/FactSheets/Funding.aspx
  3. Although I would agree that most row boats are less tippy than most canoes I don't think that it is a blanket statement. Went my son did aquanaut he skipped that because we don't have access to a row boat. Personally I think that a sit on top kayak, is a better vessel to learn boating and rowing saftey. it is as stable if not more stable than a rowing vessels, I think that it is more intuative to paddle, the fact that you are typically facing forward makes it easier. If you go over board self rescue is much easier. Since they are self bailing you really can't sink them unless you cut a ho
  4. My son just got back from 5 days of Webelos residence camp. It rained at some portion everyday. 2 of the nights it rained all night. At one point everyone had to go inside due to lightning that delay lasted about and 1.5 hour. The last night they had to move the closing event indoors. All the scouts I talked to had a great time and the rain did not bother them. Everything came back muddy but it is camping gear is is intended to get muddy.
  5. Personally I don't think you need to do anything to spice up the archery and BB Guns. Most of the kids only get to do it once or 2x a year at the council events I think the normal targets are enough. They will be just as happy if they hit a bulls eye than a cow pinata.
  6. Reading this it appears that since 2013 it is bears and older. Prior to that it was wolves and older.
  7. I don't know if I see much of a difference between you cutting it out on a band saw and the pre cut set. In both cases the the scout is not cutting it out. Personally I am not a fan of the pinewood derby for being one of the most recognizable aspects of the cub scout program I think that cutting out the car and getting the wheels somewhat alligned is above the skill set for most tigers and wolves. Sure they can attempt it but they will be racing against cars that some of the fathers built. I actually like the raingutter better. At least with the catamaran (the only one my sone has bu
