  1. No gang, there was no censoring. It was a veiled comparison to Hitler and the Nazis that didn't use Obama or Hitler's name.....but the intent was very clear. Thus the mention of Godwin's Law.
  2. I see the conversation has devolved into invoking the spectre of Hitler. What a shame.
  3. Totally dismantling our military? Surely you exagerate?
  4. Frank, get well!!! That isn't a request. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
  5. funscout, What the heck is a Chritmas bonus? I have literally not seen one of those since about 1986. For the 2 or 3 years preceeding 2008, I got a whopping 1% pay raise. For 2008, increases were frozen across the board. The one silver lining was that it was truely across the board. No one from the CEO down gets any kind of increase, not even stock options. My company is doing it's best to weather the storm that has been building over the last 4 or more years. Will Obama make it better? I don't know, we'll have to wait and see. What I do know is that what has happened in the recent past got us where we are today and I don't want to stay on that path to sure ruin.
  6. Part of Obama's plan all along is to cut government spending.
  7. Or we can just ignore the oath and law. After all, those are just pretty words for the boys to mindlessly repeat. No need for Scouters to actually live it and model it in our "real" lives. Sigh.
  8. I know old habits die hard and passions are running hot and deep on both sides right now, but perhaps a reminder is in order. Scout Oath On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. Scout Law A Scout is: trustworthy loyal helpful friendly courteous kind obedient cheerful thrifty brave clean and reverent
  9. "Where are the duties of "President of the Senate", or a job description, detailed in the Constitution? " Other than voting to break a tie, there is no other description, which is the whole point. She doesn't get to make the job description up to her liking. Being the candidate for VP, she should understand what the job is and is not.
  10. Palin explained that the vice president is, in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better. Previously, in the vice-presidential debate, Ms. Palin explained that our founding fathers were very wise there in allowing through the Constitution much flexibility there in the office of the vice president. Actually, Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution states that The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided. Where exactly does Article 1 support her claim?
  11. hops, Granted, they are both inexperienced. Having said that, would you want an inexperienced person who has been studying under the best minds like Warren Buffett and Colin Powell for the last two YEARS or an inexperienced person who has been studying for the last two MONTHS? If it were brain surgery, I know which I'd pick.
  12. While an incumbent has an advantage, they do not stay in office by default. They have to be elected by their constituents. Free and open elections are as American as capitalism and free trade. Government regulation in any form is typically not a good thing.
  13. While I don't like career politicians, I also don't like term limits. The funny thing about term limits is that one side is for them when the other side is in power and against them when they get back in power. It is kind of like the filibuster. Why should a person have to step down after X number of terms? Does your boss get replaced every 4 years? Does your spouse? If someone is doing a good job representing the people in their "district", the people should be able to keep the person in office to continue doing the good job.
  14. Just an FYI, all the Senators and Representatives from both parties and all states stink except for those from Oklahoma. Those guys are great!!! An interesting exercise would be to see how your local guys poll at home as opposed to how Congress polls nationally. I'd bet a dollar to a donut that you would see an astronomical difference. That is kind of telling isn't it? The reason all of those bums in DC are there is because we elect heroes back home.
  15. Gunny, Wow, lucky you! It took 45 minutes start to finish for me and that was with it moving at a good clip. A few miles down the road I passed another polling place that had at least 100 people standing outside the door waiting.
  16. I did my civic duty on the way to work this morning and have the "I Voted" sticker to prove it. It has already paid off as the coffee shop I stopped at gave me 50 cents off for having my sticker on. This Socialism thing just might catch on!!! BTW, I did a good turn and gave Mickey Mouse and Tony Romo a ride to the polling place.
  17. I always get tickled at the argument for Bush's low ratings by pointing to the lower ratings of the "Democratic" Congress. The Congress is "Democratic" by the narrowest of margins. While 51% of the disgust is with the Democrats in Congress, we have to keep in mind that 49% of the disgust is with the Republicans.
  18. For those who think an Obama Presidency will be the end of the world as we know it, we have survived every other President and we will survive the next. Changing the American government is like turningan aircraft carrier. It happens slowly. As for the Marxist/Socialist claims......who here honestly thinks that both parties don't support entitlement programs? Who here thinks that both parties don't support a progressive tax system? Who here thinks that both parties don't support bailouts and nationalizing things like banks, mortgages and insurance. We already have all of those things and both parties are complicite in them. Obama won't be any worse than Bush.
  19. My SPL son is about 15.75 and is two MB's and an Eagle project away from earning Eagle. While he still has two years left that he plans on staying in the troop, OA and staffing camp before aging out, he will most likely be getting a job and will be able to drive himself where he needs to go. I can hardly wait as I can finally do some additional scouting I want to do as opposed to everything being at the unit level. I don't intend on not working at the unit level anymore, I just might taper off some so I can do some more WB and IOLS staffing, hoepfully some NYLT staffing and bump up my Campmastering. I might even venture into some District stuff. If people think I'm creepy for staying involved when my son is out, that is their problem. Scouting has given me a lot and I have an obligation to continue giving back.
  20. Brent, Do you honestly think Bush ruled with intellect over emotion? Really?
  21. E, There is an assumption by some that if you are involved in Scouting, you are a card carrying Republican and not one of those unbathed, tree-hugging, long-haired, marxist, socialist, terrorist loving, military -haiting, America-hating, baby killing, atheist Democrats.
  22. ghermanno, From the beginning, Wood Badge has been a leadership course and not a skills course. You can read about it here. http://www.woodbadge.org/founding.htm If you'll notice, elements from BP's original course still exist in the WB21C course of being organized by patrols and rotating POR's on a daily basis. I'm not sure how you could have gone to Wood Badge and NOT known what it was to consist of since most councils and courses have websites explaining the course and even the registration forms have a blurb explaining it. No one should ever walk into Wood Badge with the misconception that it is a Boy Scouts skill training course. No one is supposed to take Wood Badge without the prerequisite training for their position in Scouting. If they are an SM or ASM, then they would have needed to have the SM specific training and the Introduction to Outdoor Leaders Skills courses before attending WB. IOLS teaches all the skills from Tenderfoot thru 1st Class. Wood Badge has ALWAYS been a leadership course.
  23. GaHillBilly, LNT is not law, it is a choice. Pretty simple. You can use it all the way, none or anywhere inbetween. Circumstances usually dictate the level. Think about it. We've had one person here who thought they way to make men out of boys was to teach them to kill an animal with their hands and to cut down trees. Imagine that you have a favorite camping place. A beautiful wooded area with a rock strewn stream and all sorts of wildlife in it. You tell the troop all about it and they decide to camp there. When they arrive, there is nothing but stumps, no wildlife and a muddy eroded stream. Extreme example? Yeah. But there are people out there who wouldn't think twice about doing it. There one weekend of "pleasure" means that no one else gets to enjoy it for years to come if ever.
