  1. So nothing saying a boy cannot wear the sash after earning his eagle rank? There is a 16 yr old I the troop who has earned his eagle rank. This pass weekend we had an Eagle COH for another scout. The 16 yr old showed up in full uniform including his sash. He was told by a committee member that he must remove it. This was incorrect, right?
  2. I have a question. In our troop we have several boys who have neckershifts they have earned through NYLT or other similar programs. Since these show leadership, should these boys be allowed to wear them, or stick with the troop neckershifts. It shows that they have taken a step above, but then they don't match, but when else would they wear it?
  3. Thank you dg98adams. This was helpful. Our troop's counselor is not currently availiable, we live in a rural area to meet w/ other district counselors. But I hadn't even thought about contacting the summer counselor and asking them. So I guess this did work out for us. Thanks to everyone for your input.
  4. Well my question was actually their question. This is also the last pre-requirement for this badge for summer camp next week. So there is no current councilor available to them. That's why I decide to post the question here. I hadn't even been on this site in a few years till today.
  5. I wish it would be offered more. We could not afford summer camp for our 2 Boy Scouts with their troop. Instead we are saving $500 by sending them to camp with our Venture troop. They actually will have more merit badge opportunities. Their leader and the rest of the troop are fine with it and are actually happy for them that they will not miss out on camp. As for my Venture Scouts, only 1 will participate. The other has school still. I wish there was another opportunity for her. Well, 4 out of 5 going to summer camp still.
  6. I'm trying to help my boys with their Safety Merit Badge, but I'm stuck on requirement 5. I'm not 100% sure what it's asking. Possible hazards or possible situations? Hazards could be like church - candles, theater - rip carpet, picnic - fire ants, beach - hot sun, traveling - bad tires. Situation could be church/theater - earthquake/fire, picnic/beach - assault/seeing someone in trouble. Traveling - car accident. If any one understands it and has ideas, I would really appreciate it.
  7. Anyone have any good fundraising ideas. I hace a small pack. Only the same couple of boys, who see the benefits of selling popcorn, sell it. Car washes are a hit, but we only have 2 places in town to do them and with all the other groups/organiztions in town it difficult to shedule a good day. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  8. From our last recruitment, I found out that the boys like to get reallllllly involved. We had different crafts for each level. Tiger - mask, Wolfs - bead necklace, Bears - Dream Cather, Webelos - First Aid Kits. Plus the one thing we had for everyone was making "No Bake Fudge". That was a big hit. Of all the boys who showed up for the evening, only one didn't return,
  9. "WOW" As for me, I would never let my kids miss a day of school. This year I have five kids in school. My three middle children have never missed a day of school. Plus two of them have asthma. Anyhow, Our council has a big camp at the end of September every year. It is held Fri-Sun. The gates are opened at 3pm. The location is a couple of hour away with weekend traffic. So the fear of setting up camp in the dark is there. Our solution is to have a couple of volunteers gett there early to set up if we have a big group. What our family does is wait for our middle school child to get out of sch
  10. Hi everyone, I just recently started working with webelos. I understand that webelos wearing the tan shirt may choose to wear a patrol emblem like Boy Scouts do. We would like the boys to agree on an emblem but was wondering.... Is there a list somewhere that explains the meanings behind each emblem? Or are the boys just choosing what's "COOL"?
  11. Hello everyone. I am a busy, but very proud mother of 5 great scout kids. Our family pretty much revolves around scouts. This year we will be doing scouts 3-4 nights a week, not counting weekends (which usually involves some scout outting). My husband and I are both very involved. I was a girl scout for 12 years, my husband a cub scout (but can't remember for how long). Our oldest daughter is a caddette girl scout and starting her 8th year in girl scouts and show no signs of quitting (since this is the age more girls drop). Our second daughter is a junior girl scout, starting her 6th yea
