  1. I have wondered about this.

In a recent discussion about blue cards, I noted the verbage (which may change) was

I have discussed this merit badge with this Scout and recommended at least one merit badge counselor.

Will the SM assign a counselor or recommend one? To me, there is a difference between assigning and recommending.

    Thoughts?

  2. My troop went to Ransburg last year! (I staffed there as a scout many moons ago) It is a great camp! I love the camp honor program (Firecrafter).

I have a small, young troop. They were at the farthest campsite from the main camp. I think that took a toll on them and I don't think they liked Ransburg for that reason. Physically exhausted and dealing with homesickness. If they were doing waterfront activities, they would have been happy as their campsite was close to the waterfront.

This year, they are going to Maumee (Hoosier Trails Council) which is just a few miles from Ransburg. It is a smaller camp. They are in a central campsite. I am hoping this year will be better for them!

Anyone else out there been to Maumee?

  3. Back in the day (70s and 80s), my council (Crossroads of America, Indianapolis) had a council band. I recall seeing them in a parade or two.

They had a storage shed at the local camp (Camp Belzer!!!!!) I think they had a bus to use for touring. At one point, I think they teamed up with the local Girl Scout council.

I'm not sure if they are still in operation.

"2. All Girls Scouts (USA) uniforms are made in the USA. The Girls Scouts are quite proud of this fact and they should be."

I am curious to know how the cost of Girl Scout uniform parts compares to that of Boy Scout uniform parts? Anyone have any insights?

  5. qwazse,

I feel your pain. Crossroads council (Indianapolis) had its University of Scouting yesterday. Alas, we had a bit of freezing rain friday night. No way am I going out in it. I have wanted to go to it for the past 3 years. But better safe than sorry!!!!!

My local council, Hoosier trails, is having a training expo in mid February. Hopefully, the weather will be clear for it!

  6. Skeptic,

    I love roadkill stew!

When I travel on the highway, I stop and put a chalkmark on the roadkill that I find. Then, on the way home I stop again and collect any roadkill that doesn't have a chalkmark on it. That way, I know that its fresh!
