I have to agree, Knowing that some of the scouters I know and "love" are on these forums help me keep my posts Scout-like

If he takes the old uniform to the scout shop, they should allow him to purchase replacements for what is on the uniform.

This is the part of the thread that I brag about our Cub Scout camp. We went to Camp Carpenter in Manchester NH (our Council's Cub Camp) and the staff was super organized, the food was adequate (camp food after all) we did have non-denominational services one night, and as far as training, several of the staff, including one from our brother troop, are seeing how many camp school certifications they can get as sort of "competition" among the staff.
Had a blast, the boys came home tired and dirty with smiles as did the leaders. The only complaint that lasted the week for us is that we did not have clips to attach the flag to the flagpole in our campsite.
Next summer come join us! you are more than welcome! nhscouting.org

This reminded me of my tagline on my e-mails. I found this quote a few months ago and has been sent on every e-mail from me since.
There is no teaching to compare with example.

"No sure why you want "overnight" vice "day trips" but it's your show.
Our group does not seem to like day trips. . .we can't seem to get them to a hike up Kearsarge or to a baseball game 25 minutes from home, but we can get 25 of our 40 or so scouts plus siblings to Battleship Cove or the Museum of science. I don't understand it myself. I appreciate all the great suggestions and will follow up on them, also has nayone been to the New England Air Museum? Looks like a good program but the Planetarium did too. . .

We have done Battleship Cove and the Museum of Science and I have been told that the USS Constitution is boring for Cubs -- looking for feedback and ideas for overnights (we will limit it to newengland within 3 hours of Boston). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Just don't want the program getting stale.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for all you do!
Pull up a chair, grab a cuppa and enjoy the virtual campfire where the mosquitos ain't and all the Scouts are above average.

Wow! That sounds like an awful lot of "on hand" money, our Pack like most here fluctuates between 1 - 7 thousand depending on what point in the program we are at, having just returned from summer camp, we are "broke" until popcorn in the fall.
And if you can't figure out what else to do with it you can make the check payable to Pack 83. . .

Survived the my first week at summer camp. Had more fun than an adult should be allowed to have at a Cub Scout camp. The boys were awesome and so was the weather (we won't count one thunderstorm in July as bad weather). Now if only there were a way to get boys to know how to line up in buddy lines efficiently. . .

Moose,
you gonna come down and tuck me in and read me a bed-time story so I don't get scared? I'm sure you other half won't mind!!!

Well, I am off Sunday for my first experience with Cub Scout camp. My son went last year so he will be showing me the ropes. I am hoping for good weather (which is the forecast so far) and happy scouts. If you get a chance think of me at Beautiful Camp Carpenter in Manchester NH next week.
Have fun and see you on the flip side of camp

I would say for Cub Scouts, Akela is more often seen, but I just got a cool t-shirt with Akela, Baloo, and a Tiger (Shere Khan?) in Uniform.

Engineer,
The best suggestions I have have been said here, be there for him to talk with or not depending on what he wants. Do those things that will help him to remember his Dad, and oh yeah, be there for him.

Cub Scout Camp meeting tonight for all the parents, no Johnny does not need to bring the family's six room tent, no Johnny does not need to bring that hatchet, no Billy does not need that knife, yes Jimmy does need to bring a change of clothes for each day, yes he will get at least one shower during the week.
Should be fun.

This article has started a discussion of what would you do in this situation. It seems that I am in the minority in agreeing with the action that tis man took in returning the found riches. Am I just paranoid that the values that we try to instill are no longer the norm or am I just reading too much into the inherent greed of my co-workers?

Greeting and welcome from Hampshire (the New one anyway) hope you find the conversation stimulating, the fire not too hot and the shouts above avreage!!

"And that's the worst part of it...the kids. They somehow think it's their fdault or that they caused it. Then once divorse hapens, each parent pretty much smears, degrades and slanders the other parent right in front of the kid....so the kid feels like he is betraying both parents by still loving and talking to the other one"
Which is why the first ground rule when my ex told me "I am done" (as a side note if any one has insight on that comment it would be greatly appeciated)was that the kids were (and still are) the focus of our continued relationship. We primarily communicate only about the kids but we are polite, and are quite often in the same room and frequently work and cooperate for child care and activities.
I admit that this was not the best option but it was the best option given that the ex refused to go to a couselor or even talk about why she decided we needed a divorce.

Different culture, different rules. . .When in Rome. . .
The Chinese culture has never been big on personal freedoms and has always believed in strict obeyance of the rules and authorities.

Last Memorial day:
Pack takes trip to Battleship Cove to sleep on WWII battleship USS Massachusetts located in Fall River MA. Fall River has been a major Port in Mass since the late 1600's has been twice declared a Superfund cleanup site by the EPA.
Mom asks 2 questions: Are we taking a cruise while we are here? Ok understandable but for the fact that the ship has been stuck in the mud for four years (literally)
Are we going to be swimming and jumping off the boat? See a bove pollutin references, the fact that the ships deck is 30+ feet from the water and into open ocean?
I walked away and let our CC deal with her.

83Eagle,
Yeah I get it I am thaking over for our "obe man show" CC. I think some people are going to have an awakening because I like you am not willing to "just do it". As much as I love the program, I like my sanity (what little I have left) more.
I hate popcorn

I too am not a fan of popcorn, but why would you not want to make the most of a fundraising idea, whatever it is for the boys? Is the money from nasty popcorn worse than money raised from a car wash, wreaths, placing flags on lawns or any other idea we have discussed here? I know in my council, if you want a campership from hte district, the scout HAS to have sold popcorn and participated in our hike-a-thon. Why would you take that from the boys. Also, every manager I have ever had gave me the same advice when complaining aboout something: find the solution that will create the same income for the same or less work and sell it to the powers that be. Complaining solves nothing, replacing popcorn with a program that is more "accepatble and reasonable" is not the job of the councils, they are happy on cruise control, you find the solution and present it and you will never have to sell popcorn again.
