  1. As far as I know, the only laws applicable to employers are sexual harassment laws, which are covered under the EEO anti-discrimination statutes. These laws would not be applicable to volunteers and/or camp attendees (scouts). Bullying of scouts is a different topic. But I'm not a lawyer, and the laws of your state may vary. In my training, we were taught that "harassment" is in the eye of the beholder, and they have an obligation to confront the harasser and tell them to stop. Bystanders can also be "harassed" by being subjected to a "hostile environment".

  2. My cure for stress will be to retire as soon as possible...less than 2 years to go. I pray that I live long enough to see it. It's really questionable. I have just reached the point where I am no longer going to put up with 50-something year old "adults" who act like kindergarteners and are technically incompetent. Coupled with a management structure who won't let you do anything about it, and i'm done. I am looking for lake property to retire to, where I can ignore politics, move my assets to safe harbor away from the "wealth redistributing" liberals, and live out my life in peace, self sufficient, as any self-respecting human being would do. FTW.

  3. JoeBob...way to enhance our public image, there bunky! And in response to WasE61...I don't think Irving cares how many letters they get, as long as the registration checks keep coming in to fund their salaries. All Scouting is local...will your 11 year olds understand why they can't go camping any more?

  4. "First Class" used to be the highest Girl SCout award, prior to 1980...equivalent to the Gold Award today. My wife is one, and whenever I want to pick a fight, I remind her she's "only First Class"...At the time, it was considered equivalent to Eagle.

  5. Who are those responsible? James West, Elbert Fretwell, Arthur Schuck, Joseph Brunton, Alden Barber, etc. They are all dead. Who was responsible for modern YP policy? James Tarr, Ben Love? All we can do is highlight the current policies, and do our best to enforce them. That means, that NO ONE will take shortcuts. Call every reference. Two deep ALWAYS, and no one-on-one...EVER. No matter how well we know the Scout and his family. No matter how inconvenient or ridiculous it may seem. If you are unwilling to do that, and be the face of that policy to fellow Scouters and parent, then you need to resign or be relieved.

  6. According to the link, "Cooking, meanwhile, will become Eagle-required as of Jan. 1, 2014."

It also says, that if you have previously earned it, that will count. So you can start working on it now. I assume that if you haven't had your EBOR by 1/1/14, you will need it.

  7. I assume you are talking about ADHD meds, GKlose. I would have told the mom, fine, that's your decision. But bad behavior will not be tolerated, medicated or not. And if he comes home with a bunch of partials because he "can't focus", it's not your problem. I am amazed at the RN who repackaged the meds. If she has to deal with a school nurse, she should know what the rules are...

  8. When preparing for a crash, I believe passengers are told to remove their shoes, so they can go down the slide without puncturing it. I don't wear flip flops, but I would rather leave a $1.49 pair on the plane, than my dress shoes. On the OP, manners are simply not taught by parents or schools any more. Anyone try to host an event recently when RSVP is required? My son got married last year and out of a list of 200 people, 50 said they were coming when tracked down for an answer...then failed to show up. That was 50 dinners at almost $100 a head that went to waste. And people showed up at the rehearsal dinner after saying they couldn't come, resulting in a last minute scramble to get them a meal. "Oh, we didn't think you'd mind"..."Mind...hell yes, I mind, you moron!"

And the SCOTUS just ruled that "tax" and "fine" are interchangable terms.(This message has been edited by papadaddy)

  9. Put the responsibility where it belongs...on the SCout. "If you don't have a valid medical form one week before we leave for camp, you're not going. You figure out how to make that happen." Quit coddling them and their parents. What do we look like...the Government?
