  1. we had 13 boys come to philmont with us, the adults took turns sleeping alone but at regular camp outs some people do sleep alone in 1 man tents, i do sometimes if i feel a little sick. plus im cleaner and more organized than anyone els, i hate a messy sleeping quarters.

  2. well my scout master along with many other leaders in my troop feel its best to keep all the fresh crossed over boys into the same patrol for 1 year. when i crossed over 7 years ago i was integrated into a patrol with older boys. i made friends despite our age and rank differences. since we have been keeping all the "new" scouts in the same patrol i feel as if we dont know each other. 5 boys came over in February 2009 and i havent really gotten to know them.

what do you guys think about that?

the counter argument is that the new scouts could be intimidated if there taken out of their comfort zone.

  3. i wasnt planing on wearing my OA sash anyways. on an offtopic note i really do wish there were more opportunity to wear my sash :(

thanks again for all the help, i think im ready now!

  4. thats my complaint, i like the scout zip off shorts i bought in 2007 to go to philmont but there so expensive. i cant talk my mom into paying for a new pair. i just get mad that i can go to stores like khols, walmart, macys ect and buy a pair of zip off pants for like $20-30 but to buy a green pair of zip offs with a scout emblem on the zipper and belt cost so much more. :(

  5. ive seen pictures of OA sash's that are black with white arrows. i cant seem to find out what they are for or how you earn them, i would ask my troop OA rep but i am the troop OA rep lol. so how does one earn this or what exactly is this for?

  6. i was at one point a Senior Patrol Leader for my troop. i have since became both a OA rep and a Jr. Assistant Scoutmaster. one thing i always wondered was why some kids didnt like scouts, there are about 3-5 kids i can think of right now in my troop who dont like being in scouts but are forced to stay because of there mom and dad. now i know somethings arent for everyone, i for one hated playing baseball as a kid and i know some people will never like scouts. i just wonder if theres a way to sorta of make someone turn over a new leaf and get some scout spirit and participate more as well as come to more camp outs?

one kid who im talking about even came to philmont with me years ago and still dosent like it.

will some kids just tred through there years of scouting hating it or can we do something to make it more enjoyable?

  7. wow thanks all of you have been a great help.

ill wear a pair of brown leather dress shoes.

    get rid of the pins

update my sash....the reason why its not updated is i cant sew and my mom hates to sew so its like pulling teeth.

ill buy one of those new scout belts, they look nice and sorta cheap

i didnt plan on wearing my oa sash to the board.

    ill clean my uniform.

i thank you all for your help, my board wont be until october-ish...its when i finish personal fitness.

eagle 92 thanks for a link to that sheet, you sorta make me feel bad for wearing those pins and stuff =/ i always liked to stand out a bit and buy the special patches that the OA or district offered just to sorta look different and not have the same shirt as everyone els.

  8. there are enough rants on the shirt, so i wanted to know if there are others who like the older socks better with the red stripe? i thought it looks better, what do you think? i guess the only good thing about these new socks are just about any green sock will look like official socks now.

    what do you think?

  9. i got a few questions about a eagle board coming up this fall for me. i know i should wear my full uniform but do i need to wear my merit badge sash? if so i need to update that because i haven't sewed a badge on that in well over 3 years ive got like 20 badges sitting in my desk .

about the belt, do i need to wear the belt or can i wear a philmont belt, not a leather one but a cloth one that is green, says philmont and has a slip.

shoes, there arent class A shoes im aware of, so can i jsut wear tennis shoes, boots or dress shoes.

    Thanks

    -Nick

    Troop 412 Ohio.

EDIT: my scout master said they ask about all the badges on my uniform, i have a few pins, one i got for my parents donating 100$ to "Friends of scouting" is that allowed to be worn on the front corner of the collar? i have a small gold hand making the should sign pinned to my shoulder flap can i keep that or should i ditch my 2 pins for the board? note the scout sign pin i bought at the scout shop, it has no purpose nor does it signify any award.

i have a old uniform, with the pockets that dont stick out. do i need a new one? should i get green shoulder things? if so my mom will be mad, she already said she didnt want to buy another uniform.

i have a philmont hanging patch i got in 2007, can i keep it on?

thanks again(This message has been edited by NickP412)

  10. thanks OGE. ive only got to get roughly 250$. however thats considering that i dont get discounts, i own all the tools except for the Sod Cutter and 1 man post hold drill. then i gotta buy the fence, so maybe i wont have to raise much at all.

    thanks for help!

  11. hello everyone, my name is Nick. im from troop 412 ans have a few questions. i just got my eagle project approved and can begin to collect my money for the project. i have plans on contacting buisness and setting up donation jars around town with my picture and short description of my project on the side of the jar. my real question is though what if i dont get all funds raised through donation? is it true that its looked down upon to use my own $ or my parents and grandparents for money?

my dad already said he will pay the rest of the bill if need be but the eagle rep in my area said its looked down upon.

so i guess the real question is what is one to do if i can raise the needed money? should i jsut take the hit and risk being looked down upon?

    thanks

    -Nick

    happy 4th!

  12. i go to cmap manatoc in ohio, and after ever dinner we have whats called "retreat". this si when we lower the flag and all the troops out there march around in a square and then the flag is taken down and a canon is shot off. its a tradition after every dinner.

i know ure supose to say forward amrch when u want them to start marching forward, but what do u say when u want them to amrch in palce and what do you say when u want them to stop amrching?

    btw thanks for the responces.

  13. well i know i havent been active on here but i need some help

so all your post will be apreciated.

im in troop 412, and curently the spl. my turm ends after next week when summer camp is done, and wow am i beat. i never expected it to be so much work. but thats aside form the point. heres my main concern, im a poor marcher. in eyars past i was able to look at the kid infront of me and kinda copy him and thats how i marched, but now as SPL i gotta lead the march 0_0

now for SPL's in the past this hassnt been a problem i mean more than half of my troop is in marching band, but im not. ive serched youtube and google trying to find vidoes or webpages to help me learn to lead cadence. and ive came up empty handed. so im hoping one of you guys could help me.

i mean if worse came tow rose i could jsut let me assassitant lead, but i dont wana show that i give up that easy.

    thanks in advance
