  1. i got a question. I thought i lost my Philmont leather belt, its amazing what you can find when you clean your room lol. in 2 or 3 weeks our troop is having a court of honor and i wanted to know if the Leather Philmont belt with the metal belt buckle was Class A? in about 1 month ill be going to my Eagle B.O.R can it be worn there?

    thanks

    -Nick of Troop 412/

  2. oh well yeah the shirt is okay for me but more often than not ill say i dont like it more than the ODLR one. the socks......i miss the red stripe i really do, as weird as it sounds i liked the knee high socks with a 4 inch red band on top...i dont know why i just do.

the new pants ROCK! i wish when i went to philmont in 2007 we had those type of pants there much better than the old zip offs. i like the new hat too, i prefer baseball caps over trucker mesh caps. the belt buckle is great i think! but i still will wear my philmont one. some parts i love other parts i dislike.

  3. Kawidaphoenix your a 50 year old trying to be a smart ass to a 17 year old and you want to call me immature. i cant speak about your life but i can see on the internet you dont seem to conduct your way in a scoutly fashion. let me also say its been proven by facts the guy who made the new shirt isnt gay....and gay isnt a describing word for clothing. i would come back with something whitty but ill be the bigger man.

  4. well after talking with some people who went there and watching youtube videos of Noac i wanted to know one thing. is it fun to go as an adult? because by the time 2012 rolls around ill be 20 years old. i hear a lot of Noac is training for kids to be good leaders and stuff. so has any of you adults went and if so did you enjoy yourself? it looks fun, im sad i missed out this year.

  5. I was raised in a conservative christian house, ive never been to fond of homosexuals. however i was taught to be kind....through my parents and the BSA. i think the rules of this forum should be the same of that with the BSA Oath and Law. when i post on this site i remember that a lot of you guys are adults....so everything i say here i think "would i say this to my scoutmaster?" i found that remark not appropriate and i wouldnt say it at scout camp.

im not sure what rank he is/was or hold he is but if he is a "Scouter" he should know better ways to communicate his dislike for the uniform, i dont like it but im not going to call it "gay"

  6. just a few months before the new uniform came out my mom took me to the scout shop to buy me a new scout shirt, they didnt tell me a new one was coming. so i cant afford a new one, i might buy one otherwise just because. when i turn 18 this may ill ask for one for my bday so i can have one as an adult....maybe.

aside from the front pockets and the length i have no real big complaint with the new uniform. although ill miss the red parts of the odlr uniform. when i go a OA event i wear my red ribons because it looks sharp with the sash...green does not. i like some parts and i hate other parts but all in all i do like the ODLR one the best. and i miss the old socks :(

  7. Kawidaphoenix 2 things. #1 the man was in the wrong, Gay is not a describing word its a slang term for ones sexual orientation. my shirt can not have sex nor does it have a sexual drive so its not gay. sissified maybe but gay i think not.

as for being embarrassed, well i wouldnt wear my shirt into town or anything like that but when we were traveling from Ohio to New Mexico for Philmont i wasnt ashamed to wear my uniform in the airports and bus and stuff. i take comfort in a crowd personally, so if im with my troop in a church while a youth group meeting is going on wiht kids in my school i dont mind, or if im with my OA lodge cleaning the highway it does not bother me, we all laugh at the people who yell out of their car.

it took me 15 years to learn this....but the fact is i wont become popular, i could care less if people pick on me or laugh at the things i do. i have a lot more fun in life now doing what i enjoy and not being embarrassed or hiding from it then i did years ago being someone im not...its cliche but its true. i take comfort in knowing im not the weirdest kid in the school lol. i think i have a larger "Scout Spirit" now than i did when i was younger. it always seems to grow too.

  8. in attempt to get this thread back on track let me say that i dont mind wearing ym uniform. i sorta like wearing it =] maybe i dont care because the only time i wear it im around other scouts. if you think the scout uniform is bad your crazy, have you seen what some boys wear these days ? Girl pants, skin tight shirt, "Kiss" Style leather belts and bracelets. so no i dont think the uniform looks bad, but ive never worn it alone im always with my troop or a whole camp/council or lodge of other boys.

  9. im glad you asked this, im turning 18 this upcoming may and will take 1 year off before college to raise some $ for various school experiences then go to college Fall 2011. one thing i worry about is that the school ill be going to in 2011 will be over an hour and a half away from my current troop, im thinking about becoming a venture Scout in the area but im not so sure. ive been with these boys since i was a tiger. another thing i worry about is say when im done with school and move back to my home town it wqill be weird to go back to my troop as a adult leader and not have a kid. like when im 23 or 24 and i just want to go back to my troop as a AS i would feel awkward not having a brother or child in the troop.

can anyone shed light on this ? as a adult would you find it odd some random 24 year old decides he wants to come back to the troop as a adult leader, also in 4 years a lot could change i could go back and not know half the boys still in the troop.

  10. i really cant believe the prices there gouging us for, one thing i learned years ago is if you see a green pair of shorts buy them. you dont know how hard it is to find green pants that look like scout shorts but arent. i think scout swimming trunks are crazy!

  11. it seems that we have gotten off the topic at hand, who cares if gays are born that way or not the debate lies in weather or not we should allow them to be scouts. for all i care people could turn gay because they drank root beer from apple bees on a Thursday night, it wouldn't matter. i hope they never let gays in the BSA, i do have 1 question though. did the UK ever not let gays in? if so then i hope we dont follow suit and let them in later, but i dont know there old policy.

  12. now maybe ive been listening to rush limbaugh and bill o'reily a little to much but i really think people choose to be gay. if you say being gay is something your born with then you must also say being a thief, killer, pedophile kidnapper etc are things your born with. maybe something happened in their childhood to make them that way, i dont know but i dont think they were born that way.

  13. i didnt know in our own ranks there were so many who sympathized with gays?

the way i see it is Gay is sin and isnt reverent.

im only 17 and not as mature as some of you. i knew people outside BSA thought we were bad for not letting gays in but i thought of all places inside the BSA people all were against gays in scouts. it seems like a huge saftey concern to me as well as a moral problem that is opposite of the message we are trying to provide

  14. im almost eagle now and got this requirement years ago, after months of training at my local YMCA pool. i guess ive always viewed that as a little unfair, being able to complete the swimmers test just to advance. now before you say anything listen to my logic please. i think this req should be changed.

in scouts we dont make the boys get swimming merit badge to get eagle, we let them choose swimming, hiking or cycling. so why not change the req to be something like :

    "Do one of the following:

    A-Complete a Swimmers Test

    B-Hike a X Mile Trip

    C-Ride a X Mile Bike Trip"

what do you think? not all boys can swim, they knew this when they choose the eagle badges but why didnt they think fo this when they made the first class req's. also as i said above, i did get this but i know some boys who havent yet.
