  1. I like Scout Accounts. It rewards parents for helping their boys sell more popcorn. So far this year we have had 22 boys out of 32 sell. Pretty good for our pack, especially with 13 new boys. We give 25% AFTER $600 has been sold, including their share from store sales. Out of those 22 boys, so far, 18 have gone over $600, and are increasing their accounts rapidly. Our sales are out of this world compared to last year, and all I did was add the 25%. Bottom line money to the troop is still higher. I look forward to the end of the month to see where we end up.
  2. Welcome! I'm in Southern California also. Hope you have a great year!
  3. An update on our spring recruiting. So it wasn't as big as I had hoped, however, we have recruited 10 boys from it. And our name is out there to many more! I also think it opened up more doors within the school, so that our fall recruitment may be even more successful. Our now Bear den has risen to 14. I really credit that to the boys though. We've taught them well with sharing with their friends and new neighbors. We live on a military base and every time we get a new neighbor my sons goes to see if they have any boys! We will still do spring recruitment next year. There
  4. I would encourage a den of 2 or 3 Tigers to just press on with their program! Two years ago our pack had no Tigers. At the beginning of last year, they had one Wolf. My son. (We had just moved here.) Going into our Bear year, there are now 14 Bears! Depending on back to school night recruitment, we'll probably be splitting into 2 dens. Only 6 of those boys were recruited through back to school night last year. The rest were just by spreading the word. Have your Tigers invite their friends. Give flyers out at their school specifically to their age group. Have a spec
  5. We are doing spring recruitment and we are staying active over the summer. If you do spring recruitment then I think it's a waste if you do not have activities over the summer. We recruit out of two schools, well 1 1/2 is "ours", and the main one is doing a Carnival this Friday. We have a game table there as well as information about Scouting. Then at the end of the month we're having a Bicycle Rodeo and inviting all elementary children (Girl Scouts are helping for their own recruitment). Since our pack hasn't done spring recruiting in the past, this is new, but not to
  6. My husband rolls out a big piece of paper and writes "_______ Cubs" in the middle. Then he asks the boys what rules they should have for the meetings, prompting them of course. LOL After they have discussed the rules each boy does his handprint and signs his name inside the print. Then they hang it up on the wall where they can clearly see it each meeting. We've had 2 incentives this year. The first was the conduct candle. When it burned out they got root beer floats. Very crazy...but he did not have to blow out the candle once during a meeting! The second incentive was
  7. We have our den meetings on the same night, same time, every week except the week of the Pack Meeting. If the den leader can't be there, then the assistant leads the meeting. Set times are so much better for parents. If our den meetings kept changing days/times we would have quit long ago.
  8. I love the Summer Games idea. Lots of great ideas here. One thing I heard mentioned recently was to do two events per month to ensure that more boys could make the summertime award. Those that do just one event a month, how do the numbers play out by the end of the 3 months?
  9. Hi! We're in Twentynine Palms, CA. I'm on the committee for our pack. Our Committee Chair is moving in a few months and I'm going to take over from her. My husband is the Wolf Den Leader. Melissa
