  1. As usual, you pick pieces but ingnore other parts. Explain how helping the rich and their sports complexes is equal treatment?
  2. Merlyn - Your statement about Scouting For All do not appear to jive with their positions. I did a fast look over the site and fully expected to see it full of your type of rantings. Imagine my surprise when I see that they support the BSA!! I really do not think that they would like what you are claiming. If you are anti-BSA go take your rants elsewhere and do not associate with any organization that supports the BSA. I also lokked at another link that went to an atheist site and found a very rational thught line by an atheist on why he ENROLLED his son in the BSA - as it stands now. I
  3. You hit on one of my pet peeves lack of manners. If you look around you will see manners and manliness discussed. Try reading those. For some reason manliness seem to be pushed more. It should included Chivalry, but sadly, no one seems to think those are manly skills. Some have even called it girly-man. Welcome to the campfire, Knight, and keep reminding every to include Chivalry in thsir programs. Kat
  4. Really to the boys they don't need a large audience. Just the families can be fine. In someways it adds to the mystery. What is important is if it will be something that they remember. Only families and friends came to ours and it did not bother the boys that the pack was not there. If possible do it before the B&G. The talk by the boys will be interesting as they tell the others about what happened.
  5. Talk to the WB people. I cannot see them refusing someone who wants training because of a shirt. They know how long a custom shirt can take and may know where you could find one. If not, they may have other suggestions. Good luck!
  6. This may be a bit of a hijack but why is there some much against an organization trying to use tax/donation dollars to help kids when some governments spend million to support private businesses like auto mfg and the biggest on that bugs me sport franchises. They tax even the poor to build large sports facilities that only the rich really can attend and it makes a profit for some rich fatcat. Is that fair? I guess it is OK as long as God is left out. But the really strange thing is that these places are also rented to bible thumpers at times. How can they preach in a place built by tax
  7. A place to vent is part of this campfire. Better on us than when it might do damage. When my son got his AOL it was not at B&G. The OA did a very good ceremony at night with a bonfire and all. I really loved the look on the boys' faces. They were in awe. Check with the AO if they might do something along those lines for presentation and just do a simple badge presentation at B&G. Lots of luck
  8. Beavah, the possibility of suicide is the reason I really do not wish to have to stop showing I care to this boy. Life can be so hard on some and I see the signs of feeling not wanted. I hate this tightrope we have to walk now when trying to help kids.
  9. Don't worry about Pappy, OGE. That post just shows that Pappy does not know how to deal with kindness. Have y'all noticed...Pappy is the only one who cannot get my SN correct? A bit of buried anger toward strong, intelegent women maybe? I am begining to put his age as early twenties. Still in the teenage belife that he knows more than anyone else. He has not move to the level that admits older people know things that he does not. He does not seem to know how to ask for input when there is a problem so he acts as if he is not wrong - everyone else is. So he defeneds his stance any what he can,
  10. Beavah wrote, Just how many Latino immigrant children living in HUD housing do you really suppose are committed atheists, Merlyn? I bet you would be hard-pressed to find a single one Merlyn_LeRoy responds, Beavah, if there aren't any committed atheists, there aren't any committed theists, either, so WHY HAVE A RELIGIOUS REQUIREMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE? Merlyn you misstated the point bevah was making just to argue that you are right. Just one example. He was talking about a specific group - Latino immigrants. I guess in your white collar world you have never meet any Latinos.
  11. Amazing ! And you are Scouter !???! Shame ! I am not a scouter. I have too much self-respect for that. You must be a wana-be. You hover on this site just trying to still up trouble. Must have a very dull life. All you end up doing is making a fool out of yourself. Everyone sees your misquotes for your chest thumping. You loose all credibility that way. Go find a new hobby you have gotten boring!
  12. I wish I could watch them all but I have a sloooooow connection. (posted to move back up)
  13. <long sigh> other forum members the way I do things, and they all can judge for themselves how credible a voice I am Pappy, you will probably take this the wrong way but I do not think you are getting the converts or backing you want. I seriously would like to hear your ideas but I give up trying to find them in all the self back patting you insist on doing. You can go on and on and the only thing it does is make our eyes tired. I tend to skip most of the cut and paste stuff as there is no way to discuss with that author their point of view it is empty. Just tell us what you
  14. GW - you forgot Masons. How about a bit of intrigue....anyone?
  15. <sigh>...... this can be a never ending discussion but there is good advice here. I wish there was a simple answer. I have been watching this because I have a bit of a situation. Not major but after we had a suit happy parent for a while I started thinking. First, remember this is the hugging South. There is one scout about my sons age. He had a very diffulcult time awhile ago and the boys will come and confide in me a lot. I hear many thing that parents wished they knew but if it is not a major, illegal or something like that, I kaap confidences. I helped him thru a lot of his probl
  16. Ohhh Pappy, you cannot get me down to your level. Have fun tring. As for being sexist (ROFL -I have no earthly idea how you came to that conclusion. If you ask anyone who knows me you would find out how truly funny that is. Another one for manliness - resulting to insults when they start to loose. Hey, yall, do you think I am sexist? Truth now I like opinions even when they differ. (as long as it is not a long diatribe of someone elses points of view) And no insults, they detract from the discussion. (This message has been edited by firekat) edited to try to get smiliy to wo
  17. Eamonn, That is an excellent discription. If you do not mind I would like to use it. Honor or Face oriental culture means, among other thing already stated, Dealing fairly and with respect with adversaries . No one should leave the competion feeling shamed. Following rules of decorium, writen or not. You loose face if you try to win using dirty tricks, insults and such. Did tou see the part in Pearl Harbor when the Japenese commander discovers that the deleclaration of war from japan to the US was not delivered? He had lost major face due to the fact adversary was not notified even when it
  18. Good to know that one of my favorite websites will not dissapear bscause someone enjoys cutting and pasting more than discussion. How many men does it take to change a light bulb. None - they avoid the household chore till the wife does it.
  19. Hint for those in old troops/packs... if you do not see your year bar ask for it. They seem to keep those in the back. Ours is over 80 now.
  20. Any male can be a father but it takes a true man to be a daddy. Hey legal types, I had a thought which is bugging me..... Is it a copyright violation to copy/paste complete items? Are parts OK? No heavy lawyer talk, just a simple yes, no, maybe.
  21. Welcome! Don't forget to look at old threads. There is some good info in them.
  22. Trevorum - there are manly girls. They have always been called 'tomboys'. As to being good or bad I will depend on the individual and the person evaluating them.
  23. Pappy, sometimes I really wonder if you really read what you copy/paste..... The aim of this new organization, Baden-Powell wrote in 1906, "is to develop among boys a power of sympathizing with others, and a spirit of self-sacrifice and patriotism." sympathizing with others That has never been in your discription of what you call a 'manly-man' but more of your definition of a 'girly-man' as sympathy is a natural female trait but must be trained into men. As to self-sacrifice, do you know why they say 'women and children first' and 'every man for himself'? Women will naturally find an p
  24. Pappy keeps going on with an artifical term of manly-man. I could not find an offical definintion for this. I guess one does not exisits so lets drop that and discuss HONOR. A tried and true term for scouts. Honor goes by many names in many cultures and some of those have been twisted to mean something different when translated to English but following the culture's attitude they mean honor. Mexican - macho, Japanese - face. I would also like to hear of other terms like these.
  25. I do not know what MANILINESS is but I guess you meant manliness. Encarta Dictonary 1. -conventionally typical of a man -having or showing qualities conventionally thought to be characteristic of or appropriate to a man, especially physical strength or courage I do not see a specific reference to honor in this definition. I think lounge chair setter can be considered manly as most of the men I know have a big thing about their chairs if you use the above definition. As to the use of all caps I guess pappy has to yell to get our attention.
