  1. Hope not, I love the long sleeve Centenial.
  2. Hello Mr. Boyce, I have both, a microfiber and cotton uniform shirt. I press the cotton and put all pretty stuff on that one for more formal occasions and the microfiber is worn for active events. I bought the long sleeve since it is designed so you can roll up the sleeves and button them in place. The microfiber is comforable, soft, breathable, dries quickly, and easy to sew patches on to the material. I have washed it several times without anything coming apart and have even ironed it a few times on a LOW heat setting. I will only buy the microfiber long sleeve in the future.
  3. That made me smile and laugh a little, my son did the same thing during mass on Scout Sunday.
  4. I bought the zip off pants for my son when he was a Tiger and hemmed them so I could make them a little longer later. I also bought them baggy and just cinched the belt up so they would stay on. Did they look like a fitted suit? No and who cares. He did'nt. He loves those pants and the way they zip off and on for the differant things we do. I just recently let the hem out about an inch and they look and fit fine. I will probably get another pair soon because he is wearing them out and will need to get through his Bear rank.
  5. This does not sound like it was a Scouting trip, just a family and friends trip. The Safety Afloat probably does not apply but could not hurt. I think the boy did really well helping to save a life and deserves the award. This is some of the things we are promoting in scouting, right?
  6. "mmm- wood badge? Dont know anything about it except it is expensive and ya get a neckerchief, kinda of like the Masons!" Masons? Don't know much about them, but I will say that if you are going to Woodbadge for a neckerchief, then you are going for the wrong reasons.....
  7. I wear the new Cub Scout blue neckerchief. I fits and looks great. Too bad some did not like Woodbadge though. I enjoyed the course and encourage others to do the same. Woodbadge is something you really want to do, or you will not appreciate what is taught, the work you need to do or the experiences you will have. Still working my tickets, Glenn (Bear Patrol)
  8. An illegal alien should not be in ANY position of leadership in the BSA. Illegal alienage presents so many unseen problems that it is not worth the trouble. There are reasons for immigration laws and controlling who can work and reside legally in the U.S. As citizens, we should know who has been admitted into our communities. We do not know when they are here illegally. Aliens need to be screened for criminal backgrounds, health issues and many other things so they do not adversly affect the society they want to live. When aliens are legal, they drive with a license, carry insurance,
  9. Our Pack meetings are on the first Wednesday of every month. This has never conflicted with anything so far. My son's den meetings are ususally on Sunday afternoons or evenings and that has worked out pretty well.
  10. Hey JH, That was great info! Actually, I like the uniform shirts in the link you attached. Those are NOT Brownie shirts like I mentioned in my prior post. Looking good Canada Scouts!
  11. Packsaddle, your menu sounds great! I'll have to try that next time.
  12. With respect to our friends to the north (I love'em by the way), I do not care for a rehashed European looking bland uniform that does not appear to be as functional as the American style. Their uniform does not reflect a rugged statement but says "lets sit down and make crafts all day". Who wants to look like a brownie? Our uniform is very functional, unique and stylish. I have never had a problem with my patches falling off, pants ripping or anything else even though I hike, bike and camp with them. I agree, our uniforms should and can be made in the USA.
  13. May God bless Aurther Anderson, his family and all those affected by this very trajic event. Let us keep them in our prayers! Too bad this good man met his fate in this way.
  14. Beavah, The amateur statement you refer to in the G2SS was written by competent professionals and run through lawyers that study case law and risk analysis. My prior statements are also professional. BSA is on solid ground with the "Medical Marijuana" ban at scouting events. Any scout leader that allows "Medical Marijuana" to be used at a scouting event places themselves in a very precarious legal situation for personal liability.
  15. Hello Shortridge, My father used "medical marijuana" for his MS before he died, but never around his family and especially never around any scouting event. That is what we are talking about, right? Whether "Medical Marijuana" should be used during a scouting event? I am still trying to stay on topic.............. Hi Beavah, Again, the topic revolved around allowing someone with a "Medical Marijuana Prescription" to smoke at and or during a scouting event. We are not talking about what someone does at home or some other prescribed narcotic. I am a very big states rights g
  16. Staying on the issue of "Medical Marijuana" and scouting and not pills, alcohol, ect., I hope those lines are not so blurry when faced with the situation.
  17. I think dkurtenbach is clever to bring up this subject in the manner that he did. The "Devil's Advocate or Reverse Psychology" approach has many including myself justifying "Traditional Skills" that appear to be outdated on the surface. After a few comments, it is clear they are not outdated and we now realize we use them more often than we thought. Thanks dkurtenbach for making us remember why we love scouting so much!
  18. I believe that BSA is being prudent and wise with their decision to follow the Federal law since BSA is a national and PRIVATE organization. It is unrealistic for BSA to form policy around EVERY local law in the United States. I am very familiar with this "medical marijuana" issue and I can say from experience that: - It is a ruse to get high - It is an unproven theory - It is not a legitimate prescription - If your problems are so bad you need to smoke dope around families and children then maybe you should stay home. NO APOLOGIES FOR ANY SOB STORY! (Yes, I will have t
  19. You are right. I have spoken to the Scout Master and have told him that a report will be sent to him every couple of weeks from the Den Leader about his performance and progress. That was a condition stipulated by the Scout Master. Let me know if there is any formal process concerning the reports so that we can do it right from the beginning.
  20. Thanks again for the info! The requirement we placed on the Den Chiefs is to at least do the no-line training and have the pack hold a copy of the certificate. So far they feel really involved and seem to be taking the Den Chief position pretty serious. Next, the local District is conducting Council wide training for Den Chiefs in a month. I have encouraged the Den Leaders, new Den Chiefs and their parents to attend. That way the three major parties get together, meet and know each other while learning about how to work together. I hope that works out! Thanks for the links, I
  21. Wow! These are all exceptional responses to my question. I am really happy we have new Den Chiefs now. Especially since he is going to the Tiger den where the Den Leader is motivated, but still pretty new. Keep 'em comin', I'm lernin' a lot!
  22. I am looking to learn more about what a Den Chief does within a den and any advice for Cub Leaders on working with Den Chiefs. Your experience and advice is what I am looking forward to reading. Our pack has three new Den Chiefs so any information will be appreciated.
  23. Our pack had to cancel our first campout and reschedule from February to May. Good thing too because it was very cold, wet and windy. I checked the campgrounds the following morning (we live very close) and found the area deep in puddles and many downed branches. We have a lot of first timers that are timid about camping. I am trying to unofficially invite some of the first timer adults only for a local one night evening campout. My plan is to do a "mini-BALOO" away from the kids so that the dads can learn about tent set-up, cooking, short hikes, ect without the pressure of learning on th
