What kinda cake?

I sit on the Advancement Board for the District and we have this problem with every boy we see because we are not members of their troop.

Why is this a problem? An Eagle candidate can lead whomever he wants in his project. Members of his unit can be involved if he so wishes but they don't have to be.

Going out to a bar while at summer camp or on any other Scouting trip is just being stupid! Even having a beer or other alcoholic drink during dinner off site is also stupid! Anything can happen on the way back to camp and it would make great front page news!

I deal with this on a regular basis. I do cooler inspections and ask the parents to return the offending beverage to their car.

I would also tell them to drive them back home then return. The car is only as far away as the parking lot.

Show them the door.

All of those parents chose to have an additional child, just to not have one biologically.

Not true is all cases. I have many friends who have had children biologically and chose to adopt as well.

I think a camp out for the troop with no fuelled devices and a presentation to the troop on Safe use and storage of fuelled devices would be appropriate from the offending scout would be good.

Why should the whole unit have to pay for the poor judgement of one Scout?

I think the offender should lose all fire making and campfire attendance privileges as well as have to teach the young Scouts the rules and regs of fire safety.

How many 10 year olds even know what an atheist is? I doubt if many do! At this age, they are so influenced by their peers and they change their mind all the time!

SeattlePioneer, if you're implying that gays can't have children...nonsense! It happens all the time and it requires just about the same biological realities that it does for everyone else.

I would really be interested to see how a gay male couple reproduces. Ditto for a female gay couple. Sure the gay male couple can adopt, but they can't have children. And while a gay female couple can have children, they can't have each others children.

Rubber stamping is just as bad as those who create 1,000,000 extra steps to everything! We need to be somewhere in the middle and that middle depends on your unit. We need to follow the rules and guidelines set up and not create artificial barriers.

Someone told me this a long time ago - You can only be there for the ones that show up. If they don't show up, they are the ones losing out. Make it the best for those that do show up which it sounds like what you are already doing.

Let's take Buddhists out of the mix for this discussion. I know the BSA recognizes them and that is fine.

If the only reason a boy is going to church is to fulfill the 12th point of the Scout Law, that isn't reverent. And if the boy has no belief in the God the church is worshiping, going to that church just to fulfill the 12th point of the Scout Law then he is a hypocrite.

I love it when people stretch stuff like this! If I were you, I wouldn't invite the person's kid who mentioned this to you!
