Emb is correct. Sea Scout regs prohibit WB beads as they are considered a hazard underway. That has been policy since I was a "yute." Also previous editions of the IG stated that WB beads and OA flapas are not to be worn. I htink it's a typo in the old online edition.

Check out this link for uniform regs.

How did such a simple question become such a dissertation?

I don't know if there is an "official" way to wear Wood Badge beads. However, I was instructed to put on the beads first, then the neckerchief and then pull the neckerchief down through the lanyard so that the beads rest on top of the neckerchief.

Where "official" or not, I find that works well.

However, these days I rarely wear the Wood Badge neckerchief, woggle and beads. I see Wood Badge as being over promoted and the neckerchief and such being yet another advertizement for Wood Badge.

I don't discourage others from taking pride in completing this training, it's just the way I've come to feel after seeing too many Scout activities marred by promotions for Wood Badge, beading ceremonies and so on.

Just too much, too often, for my taste.

          A followup question...

If I wear my beads with another neckerchief, is it customary to still pull the neckerchief through the beads as you would with the Gilwell neckerchief?

If that's the way you'd like to wear them, it sounds like a great idea.
Don't look for rules that don't exist, because you're sure to find them, snd this is a good place for that.

              Thanks!

I'll just go with what feels natural. As I see so few leader's in neckerchief's, I wasn't sure if there was a convention. It sounds like probably not.

                > Can you wear your Woodbadge beads with other neckerchiefs?

It depends. By that question, which of the following do you mean?

A> Will there be consequences if I wear my beads with another neckerchief?

Possibly an uninformed leader will tell you that you shouldn't do that. Your response is yours to make. Anything from "Really?" with you then taking no action they hope for to eye rolling is appropriate. You could also ask them to cite the dreaded insignia guide and show you the exact wording that forbids it.

B> Will I be in conflict with the recommendations in the insignia guide?

Don't know. Don't care. You'll have to look it up.

C> Will my beads fit with another neckerchief?

                Sure. Why not.

                  *** Nice attitude.
Does that irritate you? Don't know. Don't care.
