  1.

    First:

I was given the "remains" of my old Scout Board (a framed collection of all my patches/rank/etc). My Parents had it until they moved and it was lost/destroyed.

I was able to recover most of everything but one MB, "Astronomy" (which I earned in the late 70s). I DO NOT have my old "Blue card".

How can I get a replacement for it?

    Also:

My Eagle Certificate was beat up pretty bad. I was going to send for a "Duplicate" from National (I have the form).

QUESTION: Will the new Certificate have the "Current" President, etc. on it? Or will it have Ronald Reagan on it like my old one? Are they the Same design?

I know this sounds abit silly, but I have been told everything under the rainbow about this and I need some facts.

    Thanks.

  2. Where I grew up there was and still is the Tribe of Hi-Sierra. It is primarily a "Camp" organization. That is, it has no activity outside of Summer Camp. It supports the camp program, promotes conservation, all during Camp. There are different ranks or levels: Brave, Warrior, Medicine Man, and Chief. They each have their own requirements for advancement.

From what I was told the Tribe once was THE Honor Camping Society in the Council. That was back in the late 40's early 50's. Then the OA stepped in and the rest was history.

As a Scout I made Chief the same summer I made Brotherhood.

  3. Very interesting. I did not know that a state could interfear with a person's Constitutional Rights (2nd).

Has this gone to the Supreem Court?

This is as wacky as the "Idiot" Cities who tried to sue the gun manufacturers because of crimes committed with guns.

Thank God the courts ruled with common sense.

It goes to show you how far "some people" will go to destroy our way of life.

  4. The main question I have is:

    Was he for real?

Is there any other evidence/sources to back up this books claim?

Does BSA recognize him in any way?

    What about the English Scouts?

If there is truth to what this book says, a "knot" or award of some kind, would be the least BSA could do. There should be some sort of recognition given.

  5. Can someone help out? There is a dissusion going on in a "Venture" web group on this topic.

I say NO. The discription of who can be a Den Chief is "an older Boy Scout, Varsity Scout or a Venturer who was earlier a Boy Scout".

Is there a position called a "Den Aide"?

Someone suggested this in leu of the Den Chief position. Or if she were 18 or older Asst. Den Leader.

    Any Comments?

  6. I just read a story about a man named Fred Burnham. This story claims that HE not B.P. is the "Father of Scouting". Basicly it says that Burnham taught Baden Powel everything he knew. All this came to light in papers unsealed at Yale in 2000. There is a link to this web page on this site. If you cannot find it try: www.burnhamkingofscouts.com .

Is this story real or just some novel?

Is there some Scout History buff out there who can help out?

  7. Does anyone have any sorces for "SECONDS" in Venturing Uniforms. Especialy the Pants.

Sixty-five dollars is insane. I myself have NEVER paid that much for ANY pair of pants.

Our Crew has elected to use the "Dark Green" shirt and use "Black Jeans" for the pants.

If I could find a reasonable source for the offical pants, they would go for it.

PLEASE, just info on possibilities for supply, NO lecture from the Uniform Police.

    Thank you!

  9. I agree with FSCOUTER. Both should get a little less reactive and get a thicker skin.

    1.Do they overreact? YES

2.Should they show more respect for each other and this forum? YES!

3.Should they be kicked off? NO!

4.Should they as Scouters follow (at least try)the Scout Law (especialy the 5th point!)? YES!

If the petition stands for the above items,

    Sign me up!

  10. The Cubmaster was new (not just to the position, but to Scouting also.)wearing a new "empty" uniform.

The unknown Scouter was also new and not familar to the Pack or CM.

The new CM is a very quiet (shy) person and was intimadated by this other man by both his actions and his uniform. (Much like a new private is bullied by a Drill SGT)

The Pack was confused as to what this unknown man's position was by his actions as well as his uniform (in addition to all his patches he wore "Silver" District Shoulder tabs, leftover from his previous Council).

Yes he would have caused problems even if he did not wear a uniform, but I think the uniform made things worse. Making it appear he was the authority not the Cub Master.

My point is what dsteel said: "What role are you playing...."

    Dad or Scout Leader?

And as I said before: "What do you want to accomplish by wearing it?"

If it is to show support? Great!

But if it is to give your ego a boost by showing all the "Little Scouts" what a great Scouter you are? Leave it in the closet.

  11. Sleep deprived or too much cold meds? ;) Just Kidding!

    86 plans A & B.

    Go to Plan C:

Follow the Colors set up by the Service Star Backings.

Or Plan D:Yak_Herders Sugestion earlier in this thread.

I think the redundant Venture Sholder patch is just another way for "Them" to squeeze a few extra dollars out of us.

Why don't they ever ask "The Field" about what we think would work?

The Ivory Tower at its best!

  12. I just replied to the other thread as to what I think about a Blood Drive for your Eagle Project after reading this thread. (I missed the orginal post)

As the SPL for your troop show leadership and "Lead by example",choose a better project. One that is worthy to be called an "Eagle Project". There are "tons" of projects just waiting for a young man like you to discover them. Try "Taking the path less traveled".

Sorry if I am bit harsh but a Blood Drive is NOT Eagle material.

  13. I want to know why the Venture Silver Award is not getting the recognition it deserves? In my opinion it is the equivilant to the Eagle ( I feel that its even harder to earn). I won't even get on the Ranger Award (which is even more difficult).

I think its more than "the Eagle has been around a lot longer than the Silver".

Most people are not aware of the award. Why is National not doing more to promote it?

Venturing is an awsome program! I just hope it gets enough support so that it may see its full potental(sp) bloom.

  14. Why is there no cloth awards for the Varsity Dehali award or the Venture Bronze, Gold or Ranger awards?

Medals are for formal wear only so did these awards "slip by" someone? What about everyday wear?

I know there used to be a knot for the Ranger Award when it was the highest award in Exploring. There is one for the Silver Award but not the new Ranger (which I think is much harder)And what about the new Quest awards?

Yak_Hearder I know you have some ideas on this topic, is there anyone who is "in the know"?

  15. In saying it might distract/confuse/upstage..

I knew a young new Cubmaster (with no experience, was scheduled for Basic Training) who at his second Pack Meeting noticed a unknown Scouter in the audience. He was described to me as a "General" due to all his patches on his uniform. This unknown Scouter was the father to one of the Cubs in his Pack (Unknown to the Cub Master). He was quite full of himself and needless to say he upstaged and intimadated the Cub Master. Not all of the boys knew who was in charge and yes quite a few adults were confused.

Now this mans behavior had a lot to do with this situation, but also wearing his "Generals Uniform" (along with his ego) did not help.

As I said before "What do want to accomplish by wearing it".

  16. Sorry I'm a bit late to post on this thread. I noticed this on a more current thread that said you were going through with this and you were being approved? I hope not!

I've sean a few "Blood Drives" for Eagle Projects, NONE passed the requirements for Eagle.

(One did get approved, however he was a "Paper Eagle" but thats another thread..)In most Councils they are not allowed. For good reason.

The Red Cross does Everything for you. It is basicly on "Auto-Pilot" all you would do is hand out T-Shirts and Cookies. There is ZERO leadership for Eagle. As for "Setting Up" or "Building the Bus", There is NO WAY the Red Cross will let you do ANYTHING to their "Already Approved" set up. And as was mentioned in another post you are not even old enough to donate.

Remember this: In the Future, when you are asked "What did you do for your Eagle Project"?

And you reply "A BLOOD DRIVE!" The impression left will be much what you have seen on earlier posts. It looks like you are trying to take the "Easy Way out"?

I'm sorry if I came of a bit harsh, but there are so many other things you could do. I suggest you talk to School Leaders, Church Leaders, Community Leaders, Non-Profit Programs in your area, The VA or Veteran Groups. This list could go on and on...I am curious as to where your SM was on this.

Do somthing you can realy be proud of. Something that when you are a Scoutmaster and a young Scout asks you for help on selecting his Eagle Project. You can Proudly tell him about your project and have him inspired to select his.

Myself, 23 years ago I did a "Nature Trail" for a county park. And yes, I use it as an example to my Scouts today.

I hope you can find a Eagle Project that is worthy of the rank.

    Good Luck!
