  1. I appreciate all the feedback, positive and negative. the dialogue has definitely has opened my eyes to things ahead. Keep the advice coming I am pretty excited to learn all I can. I've been scouring the internet for WB information. Found some good Youtube Videos that have got me pretty excited.
  2. Could a goal be as simple as getting a functional pack committee? When I joined the pack as a Tiger leader 1 or 2 people did everything. It lead to a poor program, which is what prompted me to step up as cubmaster. I have been working on improving that, but we still have a long way to go.
  3. This is probably the best way to work a small pack. however I know LDS units have some different rules, i'm not sure how they play into this publication, or if there is a Year A/Year B book specifically for LDS units.
  4. As many of us do, I wear many hats. My main priority is Cubmaster. and in my vision a majority of my goals will be geared toward Cub Scouting. I think becoming a Unit Commisioner might be another great idea, as in my part of our district, we are severely lacking UC's. I was asked by our DE if that is something I would ever consider. I told her that when the time is right I could be interested in it. I am also a Member of our District Committee, this is where the idea of the District Webelos to Scout Campout came in to play. 3rd I sometimes fill in as Assistant Scoutmaster for o
  5. Thanks guys. One of my ticket items i've thought about is helping organize a district wide Webelos to scout campout. I mentioned it to my DE last night at our Roundtable and she loved the idea. she brought it up to others at the meeting and they all thought it was a good idea too!
  6. Should I start thinking about what the goals of my ticket should be yet? or is that something better to start working on after taking the in person part of the program?
  7. I just registered for Wood Badge in the next Council over from me Course C1-286-15. (much closer drive than the one that will be held next summer in my council). Can anyone give me any tips to prepare for the course?
  8. As others have stated Car Camping isn't inherently a bad thing with cubs. At least with my unit, I can't wait for the day we become a car camping unit. That will be 100 steps in the right direction compared to what we were doing when I took over as CM. For those Packs that have longstanding traditions of camping perhaps venturing out a little and being a bit more adventerous isn't a bad thing as long as your parents know ahead of time and are fine with it. The important thing is to find out what the parents are comfortable with. If they are accepting of what kind of camping you are doing,
  9. Anybody know when the cyber Monday deals will be posted? Bryan's blog said Sunday night.
  10. oh, now it does. perhaps it was a bug on my computer. thanks
  11. the link comes up with a message saying "Bad Gateway"
  12. I shouldn't say fairly new troop. the troop goes back nearly 30 years. but in recent years membership dropped to nearly 0 and we are in the works of building it back up.
  13. CoH went well. He decided not to wear the sash. all 7 scouts were there, and 6 of the 7 have earned a rank advancement. with the last scout close. As I stated earlier, this is a fairly new troop, with our Scoutmaster taking over late last spring. This was the first CoH for these boys since the "ship has been righted" so to speak. We had cake and lemonade afterwards and all had fun!
  14. he is. He assumed Scoutmaster duties last spring. and over the summer, renewed his membership.
  15. awesome! My son was in tiger cubs last year we had alot of fun!
  16. Why thank you sir. I didn't even realize I was that high!
  17. Here is a map of our Council. We are in Chapter 12. As you can see we are geographically pretty large. However after looking at this I see there is someone closer to us than I orignally thought. (preface: I am not an arrowman, nor was I in scouts, so alot of this is new to me, including this website :-).) However the timing was still too short for this go-round. But I do like the idea to get the lodge/chapter involved, but it will have to be for future CoH's.
  18. THanks for the replies guys. I have forwareded him the URL to this thread. Our COH is monday, and we don't have time to get the local lodge involved, as we are about 3 hours away from them. and 2 days (not including the weekend) is not enough notice IMO. but great ideas to think of for future CoH's
  19. I am asking this on behalf of our scoutmaster, who was a member of O/A as a scout. Would it be inappropriate for him to wear his sash at a Troop Court of Honor? He wants to introduce the troop (which is relatively young and new) to O/A and thinks this might garner some interest. but not if its not recommended. Thanks in adavance
  20. are you able to track IP addresses? On a site I moderate, we are able to do that, and find that a lot of the spammers come from china. not sure how this site works, but we are able to ban chineese IP addresses somehow. some still end up still eventually finding a way back in, but it slows them way down.
  21. Great tips Eagle 94! we live in such a small community that both our troop and our pack are sometimes confused as one unit by the public in our town that isn't in tune with the scouting world. In fact we have pretty much the same committee members for the troop as we do the pack, that we run it as a "joint committee" so to speak. I should also mention I have also registered with the troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster. so working with them shouldn't be too hard of a push.
  22. I have talked to our troop about this and their view is, if it gets the boys into camping earlier they are all for it. as opposed to having to "break them in" once they cross over. The troop is starting new and are willing to do anything that could promote more scouts sticking around and crossing over into the troop. I will encourage anyone that has their own tents to bring them though,
  23. Great! I am in the general vicinity that I want to be then. I told our scoutmaster the other day that if 5 or 6 of the 11 tiger cubs cross over into the troop in 5 years we are on the right track
  24. Excellent Responses guys! this is the stuff I was looking for! Thank you. The municipal campground I plan on going to has both indoor flushable toilets, and showers so that base is covered. As far as equipment and cooking goes, Our Troop has a trailer set up as one giant "patrol box" set up for 4 patrols to cook, all with their own stoves, pans and dutch ovens etc. It also stores all the troop tents. I don't see any reason we wouldn't be able to utilize that for cooking. However I would still like to do the foil meal type of cooking for one of the meals. This way the parents know there
  25. I guess I'm more concerned about getting the parents to come. I don't think I'll have a problem with the boys wanting to go, but if the parents don't want to come, the boys won't come
