  1. I received an email from one of the parents overnight asking questions. This happens to be one of my sons best friends in our tiger group. I have hopes that they will join us too. Most likely I will get all the info together, and will make the arrangements on behalf of our pack. (i.e. 2 scouts/parents)
  2. I have not heard back from any of our other tiger cub parents about going. so as of right now, me and the boy will be going solo.
  3. it is a weekend type camp. check in Friday night. programs Saturday including BB gun and Archery ranges. Saturday night they have a "graduation" of sorts from tiger cub to wolf for all the tigers across the council, or those that attend at least. Saturday night they roast marshmallows over the fire, and then sunday we go home. http://www.nlcbsa.org/files/d/usr/3/Tiger%20Cub%20Camp%202014.pdf
  4. I am going to be taking my tiger cub to tiger camp this april. Does your council put on a tiger cub camp every year? What does a guy need to know as a first timer as an adult partner/den leader.
  5. Well, its over. I think it went well for my first time. Once I got up there I felt as comfortable as could be. It was far from a perfect speech however, My head was stuck down in my notes most of the time, and I stammered a bit. but I think I did a good job getting the parents to understand the benefits of donating to FOS by visualizing that the memories and skills that boys earn from scout camp lasts a lifetime. It got some donations at least.
  6. Thanks for the tips so far. I should mention our DE informed us she was not going to be able to attend our meeting and give the presentation on Thursday night. and our meeting is this sunday. Now mind you, the last time I sat a FOS pitch was back when I was a webelo in the early/mid 90s. I'm a little spooked, but I received our unit guide to FOS, I'm currently reading it for any info I need, and am working on writing the piece I want to give.
  7. hey all, I was persuaded to give our family FOS presentation at our next pack meeting during district roundtable last night. I don't know how comfortable I feel giving public speeches I am yet. Can anyone give me any tips?

    Tuck it in!

I have yet to find a uniform shirt for me that will stay tucked in. Every shirt I have worn since becoming an adult leader is too short, and any time I reach my arms above my head without fail it comes untucked.
  9. from what I have been able to tell, our CO is a hands off type of organization. Our current leadership has had 0 scouting experience before becoming leaders. they are doing the best they can, but they stretch themselves too thin sometimes and don't give the pack the attention it needs, and organization is a big need (IMO) as I move up and into the CM position, I hope to create some organization so stuff like this doesn't happen again.
  10. I realize this thread is nearly 2 years old, but i had this experience happen to me just this week. however, at the district level, not council. Our DE was going through our Charter and she said that 3 of our leaders did not have Adult applications on file, and that if we did not have them National was going to fold our pack. Well the gal that runs our pack (not sure of her exact title) told them that they were turned in and they better find them (i may have paraphrased a smidge :-) ) Our DE now turns to me as she apparently sees me as a go getter and asks if I can wrangle down the leaders
  11. It appears that they already have a place to stay. there was a house offered to them to move into (not sure permanently or temporarily, but either way they have shelter. Our community has turned out in droves with donations of toys, games, clothes and other items. someone brought over a TV and a PS2 and you could see their faces just light up. pots and pans and beds have been pledged as well. Our DE put out a request to other scouting units as well.
  12. Hello guys, Last night one of my tiger cub families lost their home to a fire. Have any of you had something like this happen in your units? what type of response did you guys give as a unit? Once i found out it was one of my boys i started looking for donations. I also spoke with our DE about anything that the district/council could do for the family. She was going to bring it up on a council wide conference call this morning.
  13. I attended my first district roundtable Thursday night. It was somewhat interesting for the 4-5 of us that were there. lol
  14. Northern Minnesota, we have about a foot already. been below 0 for the last week and a half. most of the time in the teens and twenty's below 0.........that's way to early for that cold here. lol
  15. Pack 151, I am a former star scout from this troop, now My oldest is a tiger cub, of which I am the leader. I have also been asked to step in as ACM with the goal of being named CM once the current CM moves up to Troop.
