  1. " The autism/Aspergers guys seem to get "mainstreamed" because that's what parents demand of the schools."

No, actually, its the schools that want them mainstreamed, they don't want the hassle of separate lesson plans, separate homework objectives, accommodations, etc.

We found as they got older there were no real accommodations so we dropped the IEPs.

  2. It boils down to need vs. want.

You want an Uzi, AK, AR-15 or MAC-10. Whether to target shoot or to shoot your home intruder. You don't need them. If you have so many home intruders that you need a 30 round clip, perhaps its time to move.

I grew up with guns, so did my wife. My wife was a competitive target shooter (22 and hi-power) Olympic potential. Her Dad is a "gun-nut" ... a total whack job with an arsenal.

We have guns ... most of which were given to us via estates, parents, etc. We never take them out of the locked gun cabinet...no need to.

I don't know what's "reasonable" but I feel that what we have now is not "reasonable".

  3. You asked ... for private individuals ...

    Assault rifles - Ban

    Automatics - Ban

Clips larger than 10 - Ban

You might want them...but you don't need them.

    Mandatory prison for violations.

    -or-

    Just repeal the 2nd Amendment

  4. I beg to differ on the "without a fight".

They fought in Minnesota last year, they fought in Michigan last night ... business won out over the people. They fought on Wall Street too ... haven't seen much change there.

I believe the document should be written, "By the business, for the business..."

  5. From the last reports I saw on TV last night, it sounds like the troop had left the trail.

There was also a miscommunication with the Sheriff helicopter. (For some reason, the boys were communicating with the chopper, not the adults?) The troop assumed they were to "stay put", whereas the chopper pilot took the "thumbs" up to mean they were fine.

By the time they came back to the troop, they were out of water, so the chopper directed them to a landing site, then ferried them out. There were no injuries.

My wife suggested that the Sheriff choppers should carry a "drop" bundle with water and a walkie talkie for this kind of situation.

I've never seen MCSO go out and find someone and leave them when they found them. Probably shouldn't have in this case either.

  6. "What do you think the difference is?"

I would say dumb luck, or connections, most likely.

During my many layoffs over the last 25 years, the MIT/Berkley/Stanford types have walked right beside me to the gallows.

The engineering world is now more about what the MBA's think, and much less about technical competency and innovation.

  7. FOUR PEAKS, AZ - A scout troop, including two adults and six children ages 12 to 13, was found to be okay, after going missing Saturday night in the Four Peaks area.

The Maricopa County Sheriff Office gathered a search and rescue team on Saturday night, after the troop did not return from their camping trip Saturday afternoon.

According to MCSO, they found the troop at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The troop was about a nine hour hike away from the trailhead, according to officials.

MCSO says the troop indicated they were okay, and that they wanted to finish the hike on their own.

But after several calls of the troop not returning home Sunday afternoon, MCSO decided to rescue all of them by helicopter.

The troop was reunited with their family and friends.

  8. No.

    No.

It shows up at my house, my Scout as never opened one. Gets thrown out with the newspapers and other magazines, catalogs, etc. on a periodic (sic) basis.

Some magazines I don't even let in the house...like the one that he gets because his Grandpa bought him a lifetime membership to the NRA when he was 6.
