  1. Thanks everyone for your input. Here is some additional information. The Den is a Bear Den with 12 boys. The original purpose for the funds were to offset the cost of a trip to an Aquarium located in Northern KY about 2 hours away. It now appears that this trip may not happen and I have been talking to the leader about using the money to offset the cost of sending the boys to Webelos Resident Camp. Popcorn is the primary fundraiser for our Pack. The decision to sell additional popcorn was done after all the Scouts turned in their popcorn orders.
  2. Is it appropriate for an individual Den or Patrol to hold a fundraising activity for the sole benefit of the Den or Patrol? One of our Leaders purchased $1,000 of popcorn for his Den to sell. Our Cubmaster agreed to segregate the profits for use by his den. This has created a minor ruckus with some of the other dens. I am currently riding the fence on this issue. The Leader is assuming all the risk should they not sell the popcorn.
  3. We spent the extra money for coolmax T-shirts and synthetic thermal tops with the Troop Number on them. We are looking for nylon convertable hiking pants that come close to the Boy Scout Green. We teach our Scouts not to wear cotton clothing and then have official scout pants and shorts that are cotton. We are proud to be Boy Scouts and wear our uniforms whenever possible.
  4. Wow! Seems as if Scouting has it's fair share of people unwilling to accept people who are different then themselves. Different in thought, looks, beliefs ect. How narrow of an organization have we become. My interpretation of the word straight is more literal. It is up to each individual to determine what their code of morality is and then to stay true to their beliefs.
  5. They are from Ireland. There is a reference in their calendar to a Luqnaquilla Snow Expedition. Luqnaquilla is a moutaing (about 3,000 feet I think) in Ireland. They also make reference to Gaelic Football. They have some interesting ideas that are worth checking out.
  6. The offical Scout rule for Webelos camping is as follows: There is to be a minimum of 1 adult for every 2 Webelos. A parent can be in charge of his/her own son and one other boy. The leader can only be in charge of his/her own son. We use a permission slip that states if the parent is going to be at the outing. If the parent cannot make the trip the permission slip specifically states who will be in charge of the Scout. If your Webelos campout includes 10 boys then you must have a minimum of 6 adults.
  7. I am a Webelos Leader with 18 Webelos. Our Pack purchased 5 2 man tents, a dining fly in addition to misc. camping equipment. We spent $750 which was drawn from the Packs acct. Our Webelos program is very outdoor oriented with 5 Webelos only campouts and 2 family campouts. We have a good number of disadvantaged Scouts who come from single parent homes and have no personal camping equipment. This purchase has help tremendously with keeping the boys active and hopefully preparing them to move on to the Troop.
