  1. Thanks! That's what I needed.
  2. We asked our council to move up our Roundup date, so the Tigers don't go straight into Popcorn.
  3. I seem to have misplaced my copy of Scouter Magazine that had the info for the fishing patch. Who was it through and did they give a web adress? Thanks
  4. You guys have really got off subject. The point was not whether a bow and a bb gun were weapons. The point is if a member of BSA is certified to instruct archery or bb, why can't they instruct it at any time and not just at council events? Is the training not good enough that you trust them to setup a proper range? The other point was we have to trust the parents when they sign off that Johnny did the requirements for the baseball belt loop. Why would archery and bb be different?
  5. What about a female leader that has BSA hat with class B uniform?
  6. They taught them to NOT use the safety at all. We teach our son to put the safety on, point the gun in a safe direction, load it, get on the target, turn the safety off, then put your finger on the trigger and fire. It's a double safety, in my opinion.
  7. Another issue we have is the instruction to not use the safety. Is that BSA policy or is that just local? When asked we were told the safety is a mechanical device that is prone to fail. I have a problem with the range officials handing a fully loaded gun to a kid without use of a safety. As long as Johnny takes and gun and points it safely, there's no problem but...
  8. Our Pack wants to send cards. Any idea who we should send them to? Were the deaths from different troops or just one?
  9. To my knowledge summer camp is the only time you can earn archery or bb at our council.
  10. We were told even if we were certified, we would be shipped off by the council and couldn't setup anything ourselves. The council is in desperate need of people trained in shooting sports. We have a small pack, which means a small number of us make it go. We're very dedicated archers and have a lot to give to the boys, but we can't help at council events and not have enough leadership for our Pack to go.(This message has been edited by ManyHats)
  11. What's your take on archery and bb belt loops can only be acheived at council events? Why can't a BSA certified individual conduct archery or bb instruction outside of council. I understand the risk if someone isn't trained, but there is no incentive to be trained.
  12. $80 - ouch! Ours cost $35 if you registered early and then went up to $45. Ours is only 3 days. Is yours longer? Are they getting any awards (ex. archery & BB belt loops)? One of districts in our council is having a tot lot for siblings. Since our district doesn't, I don't know how it is handled.
  13. If the scouts would just change their numbers and shoulder loops, if they don't want/need to buy a new shirt, it would help them look a little more uniform.
  14. The way I read it was you just had to have a Pack event June, July and August and fill the form with the date, time, numbers etc. The Den has to have 50% at all 3 events to get the den award.
  15. We haven't had parents fill out a talent form. Do you have an example?
  16. 2 dads stepped up to be the coleaders at roundup. He called the day after and we told him who already volunteered, but we would appreciate his help. I think he approached the CC after that and she got him signed up as a committee member. I guess I assumed that meant there wasn't a specific job she felt comfortable giving him either. It's not that I don't want him to help, I'm just not sure where his strengths are. I think you're right that we should give him small tasks first and see how he does. We've been burnt a lot lately. You kind of get in the mind set if you want something done r
  17. I don't think he has computer access or skills, so I would count that out.
  18. I've never been in their house, but they've been accused of being dirty. I don't see paperwork being his thing. He's a state worker. Hard worker, good guy, but not my pick for handling important stuff.
  19. I forgot to put Treasurer on list. That's my official title. Is popcorn chair the same as popcorn kernel? We had trouble getting money from them for the popcorn they sold, so anything with money is a no in my opinion. I didn't talk to him, but I assume he was wanted to know what positions were available. I don't think the CM answered that directly. Most of the time your title is just on paper. I'm officially Treasurer, but really am the ACM too.
  20. He's a step-dad. So far he hasn't been able to camp due to wrong weekend. We was a boy scout (one step from Eagle) in his youth, so I'm pretty sure he likes to camp. Last night he brought over coolers and Gatorade that his work donated.

    Position ?

We have a parent that currently is a committee member, but feels he doesn't do much. He wants a title. Problem is we're not sure how dependable he is or what position would be a good fit. We will need a new Tiger Leader, but feel he is a better follower than leader. Any suggestions? Here's the positions we have filled. CC COR CM Webelos 2 DL Webelos 1 DL & ADL Bear DL & ADL Wolf Co-DL Popcorn Chair
  22. I've got several responses lately that they donate to BSA and not local Packs/Troops. Do you get better response going to the local store than sending to the company?
  23. Sorry I didn't clarify. We have adults serving on both the Pack and Troop committees. The change that is most noticeable is the red numbers and trained patches going to green. I think I read that Webelos wearing a tan shirt continue to use red numbers and blue loops. I assume Cub Scout Leaders/Committee do the same. So if you serve both the Pack and Troop and the Troop switches to the green, do you have two uniforms, or just pick one or the other?
  24. Will the changes affect cub scout leaders/comittee members? Some of our members serve on both comittees. Will they need 2 different uniforms?
  25. We are just camping from 1:00 pm Sat to 10:00 am Sun. We're planning on the boys making their own meal packets to put on coals. So if the weather is ok, I think fishing, cooking and the observatory will fill in most of the time Sat. I just wanted to have a backup plan.
