  1. Is it possible the SM is testing your son? Maybe it would be best if your son approached his SM rather than you.
Just trying to get in to the head of the SM. Like you said, we're going on little information. I was mostly just brainstorming. Maybe the SM feels like the Scout hasn't stepped up enough and wants him to take the initiative to get this resolved.
  2. Is this an over night or a day trip? There should be a schedule of what's happening. We do a Tiger Prowl at the beginning of the year to get new Tigers an idea of what to expect. I would guess this is more advanced since you've been in for a year now.

  3. Take all the online training you can to familiarize yourself with the different types of units. Go to the UC monthly meetings and roundtables if you have them to get to know everyone.

  4. That is how I've handled being UC. Currently, I'm UC for 2 packs and 1 troop. Neither are units I am a leader in. I do have two shirts as well. Usually, I've got my UC shirt hanging in my car.

  5. Thank you so much for your responses!!!!! Yes, she can wear the shirt is very excited. She's an absolute delight. A few of the boys have asked her and she just smiles and says "Because a Scout has a duty to follow God in the way he or she is called and this is how God is calling me." I just found the PERFECT skirt for her to wear with her uniform online - it even matches the color of the switchbacks. I also took the liberty of calling our District Executive to verify that this was okay and he told me it was definitely fine for anything under his leadership and if anyone questions it to tell them he approved it. :D
Sounds like you found a winner.
  6. Readyman is one that I do multiple times. We have a speaker come in and talk about it and demonstrate it. Then, we have scouts pick from a hat a scenario to perform. One scout is the victim the others are the responders.

  7. I vote bad. Belt loops are something that I've included in my program. We also had belt loop round up day in the summer. I guess we'll just have to see what they are replacing it with. Sometimes it was the only thing a cub had earned for recognition that pack meeting. Belt loops are an introduction in to new things. If they want to continue with a subject they can work on the pin.

and there ain't nothing wrong with a little bling on a uniform.

  8. I understand where you are coming from. It has been my goal to get Webelos IIs off with out the family. It mostly works out but, as some have mentioned, it is tough for a parent to be on a campout and leave a sibling behind. When that does happen I let them know up front that the Webelos will tent and camp as patrol. Any extra campers are off to the side. I know there are some kids that wouldn't come if I was absolute on Webelos only.

  9. That's a great program. Readyman is one requirement that I do several times. I think my son has done it 6 times from summer camps, day camps and den meetings. I repeat readyman in Webelos I and Webelos 2 years.
