  1. Well that's my point. There's no way to display the honor as an adult.
  2. Why is it that there is no square knot award for the Den Chief Service Award? It's not easy to get and many I know got it as youths and would like to be able to display it on their uniforms like the AoL knot and Eagle knot.
  3. When a new DE starts the job, what is the training process? Do they have to fly to national? How reliable is the statement on scouting.org that says that a DE will start at more then $35,500? Thanks!
  4. What about on a national level? I'd like to know that organizational chart. I've wondered if there is a person on a national level that deals with specific aquatics programs as a professional.
  5. Gern Blansten: I cannot find any information on the BSA official website about the new aquatics programs that you linked to or the revisions that have been made to aquatics programs for 2008. Any more information you can provide would be great.
  6. I am a NCS trained aquatics director and I am interested in becoming staff at NCS in the aquatics section. What are the prerequisites or qualifications necessary and how do I talk to someone about this?
  7. I agree with you Beavah. I don't see any reason to make profit from these classes just like you said, contrary to the spirit of the movement. I'm just gonna charge what it costs me for the cards and fliers.
  8. Yes, I understood your first reply. I was just explaining why I think it's better to take an actual SSD/SA class than to just take the e-course. Thanks for your input. :-)
  9. Yeah, I know it's an e-course but I've taken that and it doesn't really train you in my opinion. When I teach a class, it has a lot of specifics that aren't offered with the e-course. I teach about scout/leader ratios, info and PFDs, details about different scout aquatic programs, how to set up a safe swim area, etc. I don't just cover the SSD/SA points listed on the cards. I guess I'll just charge for the pocket cards themselves then. Thanks for the reply.
  10. Hello everyone. I am a certified BSA Aquatics Instructor. Recently I have been asked to teach a group SSD/SA class at a regularly scheduled meeting. I am being asked what my fee is. I don't really know the answer to this. I have only ever taught before while working as an aquatics director at a camp and SSD/SA classes were a part of the program. I don't see the reason to make any profit off of the class but I guess I could charge something for the flyers pocket cert. cards. Any ideas? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I'm new here and it looked like the best place for my question. Thanks
  11. Hi everyone! My name is Colin and I'm new to the forums. I am a 25 year old married college student. I am studying marine science and environmental science at Coastal Carolina University. I was a scout as a youth from Tiger Cub through Eagle Scout. As an adult I have worked since 2005 as an aquatics director at my home council camp and now as a freelance aquatic instructor in the Peedee Area Council in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am also the Boy Scout Program Coordinator for Ripley's Aquarium and a NAUI Scuba Instructor. I hope that with my experience professionally and as a scout and scouter, I can d
