Bug nets are for sissys!
Just kidding. Actually, the bugs at the camp we attend aren't that bad! Now the raccoons & chipmunks - that's a different story!

These Eagle guys are OK with me. As long as they remember that it is not their Eagle Scout rank. That belongs to each Scout as does the decision to whether the Scout wants to make becoming an Eagle Scout a goal or not.
Exactly! The rank belongs to the Scout not the adults!
I agree, Fat Old Guy. Like everything else, Scouting is getting programed instead of doing things just for the mere enjoyment of doing it!

The key to the nicer washroom comes when you are a Senior Forum Member! For now, you just get to use a stall in the regular washroom.

Once again, the stapler guy is right! Raffles of any kind are not condoned by the BSA. If a DE or SE participates then they are part of the problem.

acco40 is right on the money. I defy this Eagle Counselor to produce something from ANY BSA publication to verify what is is doing is within the BSA rules and not adding to the requirements!

We have both the 12" and 14". All with legs. We also have a couple 12" double depth. All cast. Stay away from aluminum. The only advantage is they are a little lighter. Other that that, they don't heat evenly & can warp.

All the reasons you listed as to why the BOR wouldn't advance your son could be valid if the requirements in the book were "rubber stamped". But it doesn't sound like they were. Has any other Scout had this problem?

OGE,
So if the entire Troop is informed that lost items will be sung for and no one is made to do something they don't want to do, singing for lost items is not hazing?

txscoutdad,
Sounds like a neat game!
OGE,
If all the Troops are informed before hand? So if all the Scouts in a Troop are informed before hand if they lose something they will have to sing to get it back is OK?
sst3rd,
It' not hazing! It sounds like it is designed as an icebreaker. PC doesn't belong in Scouting!

silver, Either get out the 10th edition on th BS Handbook or Google snipe. You will find it is a REAL bird! I have a question for you though.
If singing for lost items works... why does it need to continue? By now there should be no more lost items.
Because there are always new Scouts who lose things!

My son was born deaf. He was diagnosed when he was 1 year old. He attended a school for the deaf until junior high when he was mainstreamed.
My wife & I decided to get him involved in Cub Scouts when he was Wolf age. He loved it! He is a very visual learner & thrived in the Cub Scout setting. He crossed over to Boy Scouts & loved it even more. He was elected to the OA in 1993 and completed his Brotherhood in 1995. He was elected PL twice and SPL 3 times! He earned his Eagle in 1998 & I was told by a member of his Eagle BOR "this is a fine young man". And when he was diagnosed as being deaf our audiologist told us "he will never go to normal school, never be able to talk, never etc." He graduated with honors from Mt. Lebanon High School and went on to attend RIT. He graduated from there WITH honors this past May!

The pros to local tour permits is they are required for all trips (can't remember the mileage). The cons are if you don't file one, you are in violation of policy & not covered by the Troop insurance.

silver and others, Singing for lost items is negative IF you present it that way! If it is presented in a positive light, there is no negative connotation! And it isn't hazing anymore than a snipe hunt is hazing!
What do you guys do when a Scout loses something at camp? Does it work or do they continue to lose stuff?

Why do people think this is a negative thing? For starters, this can help a Scout overcome the fear of getting up in front of a crowd. It also tells the Scout there are consequences for his forgetfulness. It also teaches responsibility and maybe a new song! It is not meant to be negative!
