Combine Webelos dens?

Recommended Posts

Our first-year Webelos den is floundering. Lost the WDL at the end of last year so the current WDL is new to the role. The Den is now essentially the WDL's son and two other scouts, one of which is brand new. Pretty much no-shows at pack meetings.

As CM I've been trying to "something" to keep this group afloat. Now the first-year WDL is wondering if the two dens can be combined. Second-year Ws have seven in the den, have earned their rank badge, and are finishing up AOL for the most part.

Thoughts?

If the Webelo two DL is willing to combine for say a month, and use the time to help the new DL learn how to organize, plan & execute.. Maybe.. Then break away again..

They are doing different things, and to combine them would be a temporary patch. Your Webeloes 2 will cross over and the Webeloes 1 den will still have another year to go. Better to figure out a way to train up the new WDL...

We have a small pack and basically do a hybrid of the two ideas with our Webelos. We have 2 WDL's, and at times they separate, working on either Webelos or AOL basic requirements, and combine at other times, for outings, camping, and Webelos badges that would be of interest to both. We have been doing this for about 4 years and it has worked fairly well.

What does the bear den below look like? Looking to the future...as I am assuming the W2's will be bridging in March? Really just a few short months.

Can be done. Pull the W1 out for citizenship if it isn't done yet. Fitness is mostly at home. Then let them earn the items the other den is working on until bridge time. If they learn the AOL stuff this year, more power to them. By then the bears might be done with their bear trail. Do a beltloop or 2 with the bears which will count towards a Web Activity badge (map and compass towards Traveler comes to mind). Camping, hiking, LNT, etc till june then you are all Webs together by that point.

If you have involved parents that will help.
